Caught this last night too and was monumentally disappointed. The whole thing just felt soulless to me. I wasn't surprised by the several people I saw walk out. The women behind me thought the opening was a technical difficulty, and honestly I can barely blame them, - it was just awkward. Sad to find something so poor after reading such rave reviews but this was absolutely not one for me.

Everyone's view is valid, positive or negative. Yes we have some people who “grudge” vote without having seen a show but it’s a minority and that sort of small mindedness is on their conscience. We don’t have to concern ourselves with it. Let’s move on. Despite this polite request yesterday some people seem incapable of letting things drop, so a number of posts and posts which quote them have now been removed.
Focus the discussion on the show and related matters and not on other forum members please.

Even from the other side of Europe I can say with some confidence that you have overcooked them. 🤣

Veering off topic (or back on topic? 😂), I wonder if they are still tweaking the mechanics of how the Act 2 opener is shot. I was at the show last night and noticed that the camera frame rate seemed to increase around when Tom walked through the doors of the foyer. It gave a motion smoothing sort of effect and made the camera movement feel much faster, especially as they headed down the stairs. I noticed it at my last visit a couple of weeks ago too. I certainly don’t recall the camera movements feeling quite so fast in earlier visits but I’m far from an expert on these things and am not sure if I’m imagining it! Obviously it’s not a major change either way but I’m just so impressed with that whole sequence and am intrigued by the behind-the-scenes work that goes into it. Have to say that whenever I've seen things multiple times (mostly Sunset on broadway ) I've always been impressed by cast and crew who continue to tweak things as the run continues, even when the end of the run is imminent. I suppose that's what makes it such a dynamic art form and collaborative between the creatives, director and cast too. Wasn't it Elaine Paige when she filled in for Betty Bucklet in London (after the emergency appendicitis) who first held the "HOME" on AIWNSG that made it kind of standard moving forward? Its cool to see that even other aspects like life-to-screen filming is being experimented with only 3 weeks left to this production.

Omg this is such a Gaga role Yes…..has she ever done a sustained run of a show though, 7 shows a week for months in a row? She’s an amazing talent, but she’s a recording artist, and concert tours don’t require the same level of stamina and consistency as musical theatre.

I think many of us were thinking that about Nicole. However this “pop star” has completely defied expectations. Attendance has been spot on (apart from one unscheduled absence blip the other weekend). Could Gaga match that?

I suspect that her Fibromyalgia might give her some attendance issues, although I don’t know how much it affects her reliability on tour?

Gaga has cancelled rest of tours before because of her Fibro. So I could believe that if she didn’t have any issues she could do it but if she had a flare I would expect she could struggle.

Nicole TBF did Cats 9 years before Sunset so could sustain 7 shows a week.
I suspect Gaga would be too expensive.

The fact that anything can happen during the outside sequence is thrilling enough as is, but even within the show there have been enough small developments for it to feel fresh and exciting each time I've seen it. Nicole especially seems to have really settled into the role - and she was smashing it to start with. The BIG note goes on for that bit longer, she leans into the melodrama that much more, and her moments of genuine melancholy hit even harder. Now that it's December, the small seasonal things which now feature in the Act 2 opener - the small Christmas trees in Nicole's dressing room, the Santa hat on the hotel's signage, the Christmas tree right outside the stall doors - really make that whole sequence feel grounded in the here and now. It's felt present and invigorating every single time I've seen it.

She’s on stage quite a bit but really Memory is her only big sing. I know she had a scheduling conflict but do wonder if this is part of the reason she said no to Cats on Broadway. One of the few stars to say no to ALW (he was livid at the time 😱). Worked out well for her in the end :-) Young Griz usually dances in Jellicle songs at the start. Kerry Ellis and Bev did this but I’m 90% sure Nicole didn’t….

Few days late but Nicole spoke about the cast recording and the transfer www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001svqp (It starts at 01:04:07) She also praised Rachel Tucker and the rest of the cast. Very tentative yes for the cast recording. Can one dare to get excited 🤞🏻🤞🏻✌🏻! She is an icon. Can’t wait to see where, if anywhere she goes next in musical theatre (after this on Broadway) and really hope there’s other roles she can tackle with similar wonder.

The perfect leading lady: Unique and true and towering. Magnetic, overpowering. The star the crowds adore! Etc.

Yep, I thought she was quite good - perfectly competent performance. My favourite Norma in the musical adaptation was Kathryn Evans, who was quite brilliant. Very reminiscent of Gloria Swanson in the brilliant movie.

Someone I know close to me who works in hair and makeup said Nicole is horrible and quote ‘ her hair & makeup artists hate her’. They don’t work in theatre hair and makeup though they work on the celebrity/ editorial side of things.
I feel she must be a lot nicer when she’s doing theatre because of the community aspect of it?? You’re with the same people for really long periods of time & I’m sure we would’ve heard if she wasn’t

I think Nicole should continue following in Patti’s footsteps and do Gypsy next. I think it could definitely appeal to a younger crowd if it’s given a “modernisation” of sorts. Mama Rose is basically an old-fashioned Kris Jenner!

I think she has 3 different teams in London, some of them have been working with her for more than 10 years. People are entitled to have their own opinions and not liking someone. But calling her “horrible” and labelling her as that, when tons of other people in the business had said otherwise is just not right. I dont see how she could keep a team for so long if she was horrible

I dont see how she could keep a team for so long if she was horrible I don’t think labelling somebody as horrible is a sin lol. Hair & makeup people often see the worst side of celebrities. I don’t know why you are personally offended by this, it is just what I have been told from a VERY legitimate source (I don’t care I just love a bit of tea so have no reason to lie). Do with that information what you will, but I also don’t think it’s very far fetched, especially considering her reputation during her PussyCat Dolls days was far from glowing. My personal opinion is that I find her a bit pretentious in her demeanour but she’s got a powerhouse voice!

Of course it's not a sin but just that sentence and what you just said about her... it is clearly an attempt to destroy her character, simply as that. and i'm not offended, but just as you have your right of a personal opinion, i also have my right to give a second opinion on that matter. no big deal.
