Me too. I think its the middle of May but hopefully an ENO mole will give us a clue as to what's coming up.

Just had e mail from the ENO to say the new programme will be announced on Wed 17th May and a cryptic clue as to what is coming. I know very little about opera so have no idea but I'm sure some of you will be able to guess. Here is what it says.
Put aside your trials and grab your magic chimes for we’ve got a Season Handmaid for you! Come with us on a journey from a sunny Sunday Morning by the sea to a Castle with seven locked doors. And in between, we can stop for a Brindisi and an appointment with a hairdresser who can do far more than trim a beard. So, how many have you predicted? Are my clues McCrystal clear?
Handmaid's tale coming back? Sweeney Todd? - God hope I've got that one right as would love another production.

The castle = Duke bluebeards Castle
Brindisi = i suspect is Traviata
If Sweeney is coming back please can we have Emma Thompson. Although it could also be Barber of Seville

Sunny Sunday morning by the sea could be any number of things but I think could well be Peter Grimes

Trials and chimes is a clear Magic Flute reference
Hope that is better than the dreadful WNO offering

I think the hairdresser might be The Barber of Seville rather than Sweeney.

45 quid for the balcony - good luck in selling that one Indeed. As much as I admire Marina Abramovic, no choice other to swerve this. I do want to catch something by her so it looks like the RA exhibition (unless the Maria Callas shows up on the unmentionables). RA discounts are available: www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibition/marina-abramovic?
It will be interesting to see how the 5 gigs sell at these prices - no question she can sell 11,000 seats but I'd like to have been a fly on the wall when the ENO negotiated a fee with her reps.

What's the likelihood of them doing another Gilbert and Sullivan this year? They've done a fair few recently and I would like to see some.

McCrystal might indicate he is back to do another but I can't see a clue as to which

Thanks for the tip re: 7 Deaths of Maria Callas - I love Marina Abramović, so this was a must-book for me.
This sounds totally mad, therefore right up my street! I’m surprised it hasn’t had more publicity.
From looking online, it seems it comprises seven short films - starring Abramović and the actor Willem Dafoe - while sopranos sing seven famous arias. Abramović herself participates in the performance, apparently - she is ‘asleep’ on a bed on stage for most of it, then ‘wakes’ to enact the final sequence, depicting Callas’s last night in Paris. I think?! Has anyone on here seen it at one of its IRL performances - I think it’s already played a few European cities over the last couple of years…
Anyway, I’m all in for this. Check out the film clips - they’re quite something…

This could be the perfect way for me to see Marina A. Her usual audience participation type performances are my absolute worst nightmare so this could be something worth booking!

Not an exciting season for me at all I’m afraid. The only production that interests me is PETER GRIMES.

Zzzzz
Grimes and Jenufa I love but I've seen those productions twice before. Plus, I've seen countless others over the years.
Is Bluebeard a concert ?

Still pondering the 7 selected arias and the concept so it looks like I'm slowly talking myself into 7 deaths (if it's rubbish I will at least have the consolation of the balcony level to throw myself off). Yes, that would be 8 deaths. Am I right in saying only 7 deaths and Bluebeard (a 1-hour, 2-hander) are original works and the rest is revivals? I did wonder what they'd do with Wagner given the ROH is starting the cycle. Maybe unrelated that there is nothing here.
If so, it looks like the reality of life without ACE funding has begun. I presume they know that speed (of transition) is everything because otherwise is to slowly wither. I haven't seen this Peter Grimes so I will probably pack tupperware and a flask and face Britten. So that's 2 very probables, a maybe for this Magic Flute (partly depends who's singing the Queen at the ROH), and an open mind on Bluebeard.

I'm surprised they haven't paired the Bluebeard with something. Isn't that what usually happens. I think I saw it at the ROH in a pairing with Erwartung in the late 90s?

Honest question here. I have a credit with ENO, and I cannot decide how to use it this season.
Anyone have a recommendation from the list? I’ve seen a few of them but I’m willing to revisit for great productions.

Grimes, Jenufa and Traviata are all great productions - I haven't a clue about the casting for them though

I very much enjoyed this production of Peter Grimes - I was at the final performance. I thought that moving it to the immediate postwar period worked really well. I also thought the quality of the writing in the programme was very good. Still a relatively expensive night out for those of us who aren't young, but nice to see quite a few youngsters there presumably taking advantage of the cheap deals.

Spent a fortune for a ticket to the Nutcracker last night, beautiful theatre, costumes, music and performance.
Near ruined by the constant coughing of the audience.

Saw The Nutcracker this afternoon at the London Coliseum, delightful performances by all.
We had the glorious Giorgio Garrett as Drosselmeyer, Katja Khaniukova as Clara, Ken Saruhashi as Nephew and Miguel Angel Maidana as The Nutcracker Prince. Everyone was super and danced to perfection.
Costumes were stunning and the orchestra sublime, the instruments sounded like they were singing.
A wonderful way to start the Christmas festivities this weekend!
