Yes I didn't quite understand the role of Che. Sometimes he seemed like a narrator, then he was being beaten up. What is his character meant to be? From memory there was a discussion of this in the 2006 London production's programme. Something along the lines of in the original production he is based on Che Guevara, despite no suggestion he ever met Eva Peron, to appear as the revolutionary in contrast with the government/Peron. In the 2006 production they decided instead to step away from it being Guevara and made him simply 'Che', an everyman representing the voice of the people in Argentina. The parts where he is beaten up etc I think are in relation to force being used against those who oppose Peron.

Yeah that's right, the CD (I think) is the Original Broadway Cast, 1978. The show was then revised in with new songs added, including two by Lin-Manuel Miranda, and numbers moved around. It was playing in Chicago and then transferred Off-Broadway in 2012. So the current production at Southwark has the new numbers in it and some of those on the CD cut Firstly, please accept my apologies for all of the typos in my post. It's only upon reading back, do I realise how many there were. And i'm a Correspondence office, so it's kinda embarrassing. All I can say is that i was on my mobile, in my lunch break and in a hurry. That said, thank you sam22 for ignoring the typos and taking the time to respond. Finally, welcome to the board! No worries about the typos. I was about to add a photo showing the musical numbers in the programme but for the life of me can't find a way to do it... Thanks for the welcome, I'm actually not new to the board but have posted so infrequently that my status is still a new member! I was at the show on Saturday afternoon, I wasn't that bothered about seeing it but I absolutely loved it. Highlights for me probably 'Delivery', 'It's an Art' and 'Cleanin Women'. I loved the direction between the six younger cast members and the six leads. If I was a bit closer I'd definitely see it again before it closes.

Having a quick look I think that some of the dong in this current production are not on the CD. I mean I could be wrong, I didn't speed hour pondering this fact and I didn't buy a program on the day. Maybe someone could clarify? Yeah that's right, the CD (I think) is the Original Broadway Cast, 1978. Plus imagine my fear of being featured in the bad behaviour thread. Went to see play with a friend and she got out a huge bar of chocolate during a serious part of show and started rustling. I shushed her and she laughed...but then carried on. It was so loud two people in front turned around. Mortified!

This is a really interesting thread. When I lived in London I ended up going to see nearly every show on my own for the various reasons other posters have said i.e. easier to organise, could see what I wanted, not having to hope friend liked it. Even when a show was sold out or the hot ticket I would still manage to get just one ticket.
Does anyone find it different outside of London though? I haven't been solo to my local theatre and I feel like I would stand out if I did. Part perhaps as I think I may bump into someone I know and be embarrassed but also they tend to have all the big jukebox shows or tours which I'm either not interested in or have already seen

I've been listening to the 2010 Broadway cast recording of Promises, Promises and I think that'd be a good one to revive at either Chichester or Regent's Park, It's being done at Southwark Playhouse in January!

Oh thanks HG. I have actually got row G as he gave me a choice. I think he said any seat is £25 for the matinee. Don't know if that's an advertised offer or just if ask for day seats but worth remembering I'm in row G too this afternoon!!!! LOL Ah only just read this, which seat were you in? This is why we need badges! What did you think?

Just got a day seat for the matinee, £25 rather than £15 I was expecting though? Looking forward to it

Thanks to all of you who have made the move possible! I'm still sam22, posting less frequently now as living out of London so seeing a lot less shows but still reading daily!
