Had a lovely time seeing this yesterday. If you enjoyed the Paddington movies then I think you would also really enjoy this. It has that same feel good fantastical nature to it.
The songs are fine but nothing incredible. But they’re very well directed by Paul King. He should absolutely direct more movie musicals in the future.

Reviews so far have been less than stellar, there’s been predictions that the box office take will be a lot less than expected for a movie with a budget this size: I think I will give it a few weeks and wait to see what the general opinion is from the public before deciding whether I see it (I’m not keen on Timothee Chalomet which isn’t helping to fuel any excitement) There are no reviews yet as the embargo hasn’t lifted. However the social media reaction embargo lifted yesterday and it’s looking very positive! variety.com/2023/film/news/wonka-first-reactions-timothee-chalamet-1235809762/

Saw on another board that someone had seen something posted somewhere that the first teaser trailer was set to be released today at 6 PM EST. I hope that the trailer will debut online but considering how poorly (when compared to pre-pandemic levels) theatrical releases are doing I could see Universal debuting the trailer in theatres for at least a week or two ahead of an online release simply to help drive up initial boxoffice sales because there would be people that would simply go to one of these features just to get their first glimpse of the WICKED trailer. No trailer is coming out today

What happened to the trailer they showed recently at some sort of Con, did that get released or leaked? Yeah a bad quality version leaked and was floating around on Twitter and TikTok for a little while. I doubt it will ever get properly released as it was very much a first look with unfinished CGI intended to sell the movie to the cinema owners rather than to be seen by mass audiences. We’ll get a proper trailer at some point but it probably won’t be until after the strike ends as they will want to capitalise on the actors social media followings.

Has anyone ever hear anything about Rachel Zegler ever being involved in this film? I was watching a video by MIKE ZEROH on Youtube titled "Rachel Zegler BLACKLISTED FROM HOLLYWOOD! New Revelations From STUDIOS! This Is Severe Now" where he claims that she was to be a part of WICKED PART 2 as a "main character" but has been dropped from the film by Universal. I have NEVER heard even the slightest rumor of her even being considered for a part in this film so find the whole report very suspect. Just wondered if anybody else has ever heard this? Your first mistake was watching a video by Mike Zeroh. An awful YouTuber who uses clickbait negativity to gain views. The majority of things they “report” on never gets proven and they are simply stirring up negativity and controversy to make money.

The footage from cinemacon has leaked tonight on Twitter. Not great quality but if you search wicked trailer you’ll find it. Oh. My. God. Thank you!

You know interestingly I saw an interview with Stephen Schwartz who explained when casting Elphabah, one of the reasons that Indina was cast was not only because of the way she could belt out those songs- but lets face it, a lot of others can too- but because of the vulnerability that she brought to the role. Whilst I appreciate that the film is Jon Chu's vision, I wonder if Cynthia will bring that vulnerability? Going by the footage from CinemaCon she seems to be bringing some vulnerability but her Elphaba looks incredibly powerful and sure of herself. Obviously it’s only a few clips but the “pink goes good with green” scene shows her brining some vulnerability. She makes a comment about being different in class and she delivers it with some pathos. But everything else we see her in she looks like she’ll knock you out with one punch. Is the cinemacon footage floating around anywhere online?

Loved seeing this tonight. Funny, smart and and with some great messages. The attention to detail with the production design was incredible! I thought it was a brilliant way to take on a Barbie movie that wasn’t just a cheap cash grab.

You are free to doubt me all you want, but because it's in Broadway World it must be true? it's not as if Universal have confirmed anything.
Also, the footage I saw was from 'One Short Day' with the 2 girls in the beauty salon and Kristen and Idina shot their Wizomania scene that evening. You wouldnt be the first to doubt me, when I wrote that the film would be in 2 parts, months before it was officially announced, people thought I was making that up too.
I also have the really cheap gift that Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman gave us for working on the film, a Wizomania VIP Lanyard. Yay
Burly - I was there with the production team.
Well it’s not just BroadwayWorld. A number of entertainment websites are reporting that Wicked has shut down production. Along with multiple actors from the movie posting support for the strike on their social media accounts and even Cynthia Erivo posting the rules of what they are and are not allowed to do during the strike.

Surely you can’t just agree to keep working during a strike. That would be crossing the picket line. Doesn’t matter how close you are to the end of filming. A strikes a strike. And if union members were to carry on filming it’s going to really annoy a lot of people.

Finally saw this today at the matinee after seeing it a couple of times back in 2016 and loving it ever since. Definitely found some of the changes a bit jarring but anybody seeing it for the first time probably wouldn’t notice or care.
But the changes aside I still loved it just as much as I did the first time round. Andy Karl absolutely shines in this show. The show is still just as hilarious and also moving as it originally was. I thought the new orchestration and arrangement of “If I Had My Time Again” was fantastic and really felt like a big turning point in the show.
Hope I get a chance to see it again before it closes but if not then I hope this has a longer life beyond The Old Vic as it fully deserves it. As far as movie to musical adaptations go this really nails it.

Bowen Yang confirmed on Watch What Happens Live that Dillamond is a female. Just to add some context to this he said that currently the goat was being played by a female puppeteer who was also doing all the line readings during shooting and that “they’re going to cast her later”. Now could Dillamond be played by a woman? Sure. But I wouldn’t take this as concrete evidence as Bowen may just be seeing Dillamond as female due to his experience with the puppeteer.

- Nancy having a song felt a little random as she's a minor character, but the actress had a beautiful voice and it was pleasant enough. The song can feel a little random but it's actually a great way to open Act 2. All through Act 1 the focus is on Phil and the ensemble play very stereotypical small townspeople who Phil just uses for his own enjoyment and has no care for. And Playing Nancy makes you stop and go "there's more to these people than you think" and makes you care for them which is what Phil learns to do over the second Act. Phil essentially manipulated this woman to get her into bed alongside taking advantage of pretty much everybody in town for his own pleasure. And this song just takes the focus away from Phil for a moment and forces you to pay attention to these characters who have just been a joke up until that point.

They’ve now moved onto the Shiz set and there is more drone footage and photos of what looks like Dear Old Shiz and possibly The Wizard and I. No audio. But my god does the set design for this movie look outstanding! They could have easily cheaped out and done a lot of this in a studio with CGI.

Is Maude not doing matinees? I have a friend at the show now who says she’s already out. I know that Aimiee Lou Wood had a rotating day off. One week it would be Wednesday matinee and the next it would be Thursday evening I think. So not sure if Maude has the same set up or not.

Another city. Another heavily papered venue yet more claims of ‘selling out’ in Birmingham. With an up tick in social media accounts ( and follower count) being asked for at auditions and in essence leading to jobs in this industry, how is this film flam allowed? She posted about not even knowing what the capacity of the theatre was so I highly doubt she has much knowledge over what the sales have been like and the percentage of tickets that were papered. She is hired to put on a performance and is getting paid regardless. The business side of it is handled by other people.

I have never heard of NS. For me a star is someone who most people can recognise, specially regular theatre goers. Jamie Lloyd I know, and like sometimes. Enjoy!

Just out of the afternoon dress rehearsal for the final tonight. It was such a fantastic experience! Really hard to call who’s going to win this year.

UK's rehearsal footage is all a bit underwhelming, I thought they learned a thing or two last year. Israel is the entry most similar to Mae Muller and she's making a much bigger impression visually and aurally. Staging wise I think it’s great. We spent years sending awful staging and it feels like the UK team has definitely learnt a lesson. And I think Mae’s personality really shines through. But the vocals are quite disappointing. Particularly when it isn’t exactly the hardest song to sing. It needs more backing vocals particularly in the chorus. I did see that Mae has been put on vocal rest so maybe her voice is a bit tired right now and she isn’t fully going for it during the rehearsals. Hopefully on the night she will just give it everything. It was never a contender for the win but with a solid performance I think it could still get a respectable score.

There are some other pictures floating around of this scene on Twitter and you can see piles of yellow bricks in the background and yeah it does look like we are seeing the construction of the yellow brick road. It will be some kind of comment on how the Wizard is fake and the yellow brick road is literally just bricks painted yellow and there’s nothing magical or special about it.
Maybe in the first movie we see Oz as this great beautiful place and then in the second movie we see how it’s all a facade and not we thought it to be.
