Not only does Endeavour contain a very nice leading performance by Shaun Evans, but his boss is played by the ever lovely Roger Allam.

Bertie Carvel is definitely an upgrade. I have two theatrical stalkers.
Firstly Richard Wilson. Seen him at quite a few plays I have attended. And the answer is 'No', I haven't yelled that catch phrase at him. Well, not yet anyway.
And the other one is George Blagden. Went through a phase a couple of years ago, where, everywhere I went,he posted a picture on the interweb the next day, showing he had also been there. He even turned up once when I was singing in a choir. I don't actually follow him on Twitter, so for all I know, he is still doing this. Someone tell the poor boy to get a life, will you.

I dropped in there last week too. Had real difficulty finding it, despite knowing the V and A layout quite well (or so I thought). Left a feedback comment about the signage.
Quite enjoyed the exhibition and costumes. Some interesting stage sets too.
Also put on the headphones and spent a happy few minutes listening to Sunday in the Park with George.

That's one of those recurring dreams/nightmares we all have surely? You know, the one where you stage a West End musical in your front room, and you look out into the audience only to find it consists entirely of Michael Ball.

Okay, I was trying to add a little decorum to the board here. I actually meant HOT...

I play spot who's been in Doctor Who! I have, on occasion, played the same game... and not just while watching people on the stage... the night tube is an interesting place... I said hello in passing to Tom Baker once when I was strolling through theatreland. Thought he was someone I knew, until about 2 seconds later, when I realised that I knew him only from the telly. Does that count?

The Scottsboro Boys - The final few scenes, especially the lady sat on the bus.
Oh my goodness, the lady on the bus. I don't remember crying, but I got huge goosebumps at that moment. Brilliant theatrical reveal!

It is most peculiar. As you say, no sign of it on the 'Platforms' page. And even if you search for 'Sondheim' on the NT site it doesn't come up.
I found it by leaving the site and simply Googling 'sondheim platform'. Starting to wonder if MI5 are hosting this event.

Ha ha, I am sooo predictable. So many of the above! Some of them give me goosebumps and a stray tear, rather than full-out sobbing though.
Carousel, Les Mis, Sunday in the Park with George (that finale!) Even 'Feed the Birds' (can never walk past St Paul's without thinking of that one). Did anyone mention Make Our Garden Grow, from Candide? Love that one. Cynthia Erivo has got me going a few times too. Not a musical as such but I did have a proper cry at her O2 Scott Alan concert when she sang 'Anything Worth Holding On To'. It was one of those moments when half the audience were in tears (including Cynthia herself).
Bali Hai in South Pacific. Billy Elliot, etc etc The list goes on...

I believe the whole Trump campaign is a magnificent piece of performance art. That may be true, but when are we going to get to the part of the narrative where the peasants storm the castle and destroy the evil monster?

Slightly off topic (sorry), but I'll always remember the opening scenes of ENO's Pearl Fishers. So clever and well executed. The whole stage transformed by a giant 'fish tank' effect, with the pearl fishers (on wires) swimming up and down from the flies to stage level.
Beautiful.

Quick reminder that this final season of YMBBT shows (in its current location at least) has begun its run this week. There will be 20 shows in total, twice a week, on Thursdays and Saturdays.
If you didn't get tickets, and want to volunteer there is still time. 400+ volunteers are needed every night. So, sign up, click online to say you are available for a particular date, and they will allocate you a general role. And there are still ongoing training sessions popping up on their site for some of the more involved roles, for which you need to rehearse or audition.
I volunteered for the first show last night (having done so once in the last run as well). Not allowed to describe it, but it was certainly a very surreal experience backstage last night, with strange groups of costumed volunteers wandering around, sharing Haribos, before rushing off to fulfil their roles. Enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time even though it was a completely different sort of role this time!
Have now realised that it's a somewhat addictive experience. Already planning several other roles to have a shot at, before this run ends. Oh dear, it's only a matter of time before I become an absolute luvvie and start hanging out with Kenneth Branagh.

Very first memory was going to a 'drama centre' which was run by our council for local schools. The sort of place where people force you to dance around pretending to be trees. Have no recall of what we did, but do have a distinct memory of being in this windowless place with painted black walls, and that there was something magical and removed from the everyday world about it.
Funnily enough I was chatting to my sister about this recently and she said incredulously 'You liked it? I hated that place!' So brainwashing and trauma, all in one family. And sponsored by the council too. Excellent.
My first proper theatrical production was a schools production of Julius Caesar. Very OTT with confetti and party poppers as I recall, but I can feel the chills of excitement it gave me, even as I write this.

I thought Forbes Masson was great in The Ruling Class, really looking forward to this. He was never better than when he was in 'The High Life'. In fact, neither Alan Cumming, Forbes Masson nor Siobhan Redmond have ever reached those sublime heights since in their careers for my money. Piff Paff Poff. Oh I loved 'The High Life'. Still think of it whenever I watch the Good Wife. And I practically had to physically restrain a friend of mine from shouting out catchphrases from it when we saw Alan Cumming wandering around in London some years ago!

I like the way the consensus is coming around to having only positive awards for individuals, but maybe some negative awards for venues etc.Great suggestions for categories too.
I personally think we need to keep the balance so that we have at least as many positive awards as negative ones overall. Did anyone mention best front of house staff for instance? Probably. Also, we could vary the categories from year to year, to focus on issues that have been predominant on the board that year.
I wonder if we could expand the understudy award slightly (so we are not copying that existing award) to include 'unsung performers' in general, not just understudies. Could also include swings, people who step into a production at the last minute etc? People who have been long-term in particular show etc. Just give it a bit of extra scope.
And we should definitely have a 'best production in a small venue' award, as it is a strength of this board that people get behind, and spread the word about some of these fringe productions.
As to the awards themselves, the consensus seems to be emerging for 'anniversary awards' early next year so we have plenty of time to gradually thrash out amongst ourselves which categories we are going to have. This could be done by discussion and polls etc
I don't think we would have a problem at all with setting up the online awards. Seems to be lots of enthusiasm here to discuss them.
Bringing the awards into the real world is a lovely idea but a much bigger step. I personally think we should limit the awards to online in at least the first year, see how it goes, and then we can consider an actual meet-up in following years, if the initial idea is successful.

Is it me or are Michael's moobs running the risk of upstaging the rest of the cast? Please, some of us are still trying to forget Michael's moobs, and you lot are not helping.

Should have: electrodes built into every seat, controlled by ushers from a desk at the rear of the auditorium. Woman in P22 is taking photos. Zap. Man in F12 checking Facebook. Zap. Drunken hen party along N row think it's a singalong. Zap, zappity zap zap. I think a tranquilizer/stun gun/evapporator should be issued to everyone on this board upon membership. We'll soon end the bad behaviour and between us we see almost everything. That way we can also zap the noisy ushers. Can we get capes? You know, like proper superheroes?

People sitting right at the front of their seat and then leaning forwards.
Sat in the circle for Play That Goes Wrong recently and a very tall chap two rows in front of me did that for most of the performance. Very steep rake there and so he was blocking a good part of my view of the stage. The people directly in front of me were also affected and so spent the play shifting from side to side to try and see what was happening. So I was trying to avoid both them and this chap. And I was too far away from him to ask him to sit back.
Oh, and include people generally swaying about during performances! And flicking their hair around.

That's a good point. I think that by the time we all discussed it, thought of categories, pitfalls etc etc, a start date of a year from our site launch might well be a good time to have these awards.
We could also make it quite small to start with, with only a few categories. We can frame it as just a 'small fun thing' like you say. And if it does gain us some attention, we can then gradually add in more categories.

Excellent idea. I do think that some sort of quirky annual awards might prove to be an excellent way of raising the profile of the new board on an ongoing basis, and so bring in new members.
It could provide a great focal point for a whole raft of tweeting exposure, linked to our website. Tweeting ' New, TheatreBoard Awards, click on this website link to see list of nominees' etc would hopefully bring new people to the site.
Plus, announcements about the awards, asking for nominations, announcing the nominations, announcing the vote, and then the results and awarding the awards. We could even beat Chichester with our pre-announcement announcements.
All of which could be tweeted to all the usual theatre news outlets, bloggers and the nominees themselves. Providing the categories were not too derogatory I am sure some of the nominees (with their large twitter followings) could even be persuaded to re-tweet our posts. Maybe generate some new industry followers for our twitter account that way. Lots of excellent, focused exposure.
I think we would need to gradually develop a list of people to tweet initially with some of these announcements (don't want to spam people). Until we get lots of twitter followers. Happy to help.
So, all we need to do is to think of categories...
I know I said not derogatory, but we really should have a 'theatrebored' award. Too good an opportunity to miss.

2. People bringing any sort of stinky food in. I was sat next to someone at a show once who ate the smelliest salad in to open just after the show started. They left before the interval and didn't come back. Maybe it was the show, but FGS people there are easier places than theatres to sit to eat your plastic-boxed salads. I mentioned this on the old forum, but it still leaves me shaking my head whenever I think of it, so here goes. Sitting in the dress circle of the ENO, literally 5 minutes before the start of the Pearl Fishers. Started to smell a strong 'spaghetti bolognese' sort of an odour. Was wondering if I was imagining it, when I looked around, and, several rows in front of me, a smartly dressed woman (fur cape even) had taken out a Pret A Manger hot Swedish meatball wrap and was starting to consume it. Took forever for the smell to dissipate. So please, add no hot food to the list!
