I note that Rachel Tucker is off at the moment. Does anyone know when she will be back?

He sang a few songs a few songs at the theatres season preview yesterday. I think it's a bit of a different take because he doesn't really seem to have the operatic voice that that role is often sang with, he has more of a rocky tone to his voice. The women playing Maria is Puerto Rican and just graduating from the Royal Academy. The director talked about how they knew they wanted it to be her the moment she walked in and started introducing herself because she had such a great presence and they were all crossing their fingers that she could sing!
They showed the models of the set too and talked about it a bit, it's going to be the biggest set they have ever done and it does look pretty epic. It's based on pictures from the time where all the buildings of the west side are crumbling down and the frames of the buildings are exposed.
I suppose it will be compared to the REX version and that obviously had a lot of praise but i'm looking forward to this version. It will be quite different i think.

Just watched the Curve season launch and for those wondering, they confirmed this isn't going to be the same production as the last tour.

I thought that The Criterion might be a good home for it if and when Bank Robbery closes. I think it's a prime location and would benefit a lot from passing trade and become a bit of a tourist trap right there in Piccadilly Circus, especially given the subject matter and it being a short concert. That said, i do think The Arts really suits it in terms of the grungy underground vibe for a concert.

Maybe I’m not going deaf after all then. It was definitely Danny Mac. I saw that Sunset Boulevard tour four times, I could pick Danny out of a line up any time, even with his clothes on. Petition to bring Sunset Boulevard back.

It's a lot, very fast and all in one go. I do worry. Brilliant as all this news is.

There was some minor issues with the sound when i went, i agree it could be quite a bit clearer, but it wasn't a major problem at all. I stand by my review that it was excellent.

Are you referring to the Barbican?? The Stalls seats are wide, have amazing leg room, and i'm 6'1. and also, the show runs under 2 hours including interval. I’m 6’3 and my homeboy 🤗🐒 says stalls are comfy up to 5’10 😡 I mean that theatre has much better legroom than most other theatres I can think of? If you are able to sit on other theatres then you would be able to sit there very comfortably. I am 5ft 10 and had plenty of room, people could still walk past me in the row.

Well Moulin Rouge has just announced for Australia in 2021. I'm assuming it's coming here before that?

Does it really matter how long it is? It's a good show and has as much right to be in the theatre as anything else. Since when were there rules for these things?

I have to say though that it seems might strange that this show is opening on Broadway in a theatre 3 times bigger than it's London home. If they are so confident it can run in that theatre in America why is it still only playing in a 350 seater here?

If this doesn't get completely rewritten for Broadway it might be one the biggest flops in history. I hope it proves me wrong. I doubt it will. But it's already being (quite extensively) tested in America with runs in several venues and it's obviously going well enough for them to be confident about transferring. Must our first thought about shows (especially British shows) be about how long it will last or how badly it will flop? Unnecessary.

I don't see the point honestly of these "well something is going in there but i'm not telling you what" posts.
If you would like to give TheatreBoard a nice exclusive or even a less than subtle hint, go for it, but lets please not just post teasers for the sake of causing a bit of a stir. It's not fair.

^Thought it was up to mods to rule on such things and not for members to tell people how to behave on here? Or am I wrong? In that case, since I am one, i can very much tell you to please refrain from trying to stir the pot

I think you are clearly a large fan of the show, and as i made clear i thought the show was excellent. However, being so dismissive and rude towards any criticism and peoples personal experience is really not the way forward.

as Andy says what's going on and who's who is a bit unclear in Act 1 Anyone stuck with that problem could maybe read the book the show was based on before they go? I think it's called "The New Testament," with multiple authors including Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and God. I'm quite aware of the story itself but i just don't think it translated to being very clear on stage in this show, what was happening and why. To be fair as well i don't think the sound was as clear as it should have been so i didn't always pick up the lyrics, which was a problem, and secondly the only issue i found with Ricardos Alfonso is that his diction wasn't very good and i honestly could not tell a lot of what he was singing. I mean it was great to listen to but what he was singing i had no clue for the most part.

What is unclear exactly in Act 1 of this show? Everything?

Did I know what was happening in act 1? No. Glad it wasn't just me! Agree this is excellent - as Andy says what's going on and who's who is a bit unclear in Act 1 (other than the main leads). Act 2 was amazing. Actually would have preferred this done straight through to lead to the climax. They way the end is done was very intense ... breaking up the stage equipment gave the impression it was the cast crucifying the actor, if you see what I mean
I think this is only the second Lloyd Webber show I've seen - the other was Joseph in the late 70s. So I think I will aim to see them all in chronological order which means I don't have to see the rest till someone revives "By Jeeves" Sat in a stalls side seat on the low numbered side - great view, a couple of points (eg the Last Supper) would have worked better from the other side, but this wasn't a big problem. I honestly had no clue what was going on, even though I knew who all the lead cast were. I just don't think the narrative is very clear. It's like night and day between the first and second act in terms of how clear the story is. But I didn't really care because the cast were so good and it was such a spectacle.

I've seen each version of the show so far and was pleased to be able to see it on the West End this evening. It was hust as good as I remember. Great cast.
The Nativity scene surely has to be one of the funniest scenes going at the moment and I still find it a cracker even though I've seen it 3 times and know what's going to happen!
Sad to see quite a few empty on a Saturday night but the audience loved it. It's a shame that it wasn't in a theatre a bit more viable and benifit a bit more from walk in trade.

Did I know what was happening in act 1? No. But I loved this. The voices and performances on display here are stunning. As is the set, lighting and the choreography.
My heart has never beaten so fast and loud at the theatre as it did at points in the show today.
Glad I've seen it as u must say I wasn't quite sure whether to give it a go or not.

The set did consist of more than just a large wooden fence.
This was a small production for 3 weeks. The production aspects were fine for that. I thought the set was great.

Sorry £104 top price? Well that must be a Hippodrome thing then because top price was a lot cheaper than half that price at Curve.
I also experienced no panto vibes or issues with the audience when I went there so seems something really has changed between venues.
