Do I need BritBox to watch from the US, or are they making it available on YouTube as well?

Overall, these are a good set of nominations, and the snubs are a lot less surprising than previous years. Thrilled to see Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, and South Pacific all nominated in the Best Musical Revival category; I personally feel that was the strongest category of this year's set. Glad that Marisha Wallace, Julian Ovenden, Rafe Spall, Patsy Ferran, and David Tennant were all recognised for their work too.
Speaking personally, I was a little disappointed not to see My Fair Lady get more nominations; after all, the costumes won a Tony Award, so a little surprised they weren't even nominated here. Also surprised to see Patrick Vaill (Oklahoma) and Gwenyth Keyworth (To Kill a Mockingbird) snubbed, but there's always going to be some unpredictably with these things; these are the Oliviers after all!

With the nominations less than a week away, I figured I'd make some final predictions for who I believe the nominees will be. Here they are:
Best New Play 1. To Kill a Mockingbird 2. My Neighbour Totoro 3. Prime Facie 4. Patriots
Possibilities: The Father and the Assassin / Mad House
Best New Musical 1. Tammy Faye 2. The Band’s Visit 3. Standing at the Sky’s Edge 4. Newsies
Possibilities: Sylvia / Bonnie and Clyde
Best Revival 1. A Streetcar Named Desire 2. Jerusalem 3. The Corn is Green 4. The Seagull
Possibilities: Jitney / Cock
Best Revival of a Musical 1. Oklahoma! 2. South Pacific 3. My Fair Lady
Possibilities: Legally Blonde / Sister Act
Speaking personally, my favourites of this season were Oklahoma, South Pacific, and To Kill a Mockingbird. I was also a big fan of My Fair Lady, though I saw that during its original run on Broadway. The acting categories are so hard to predict, but it would be wonderful to see Marisha Wallace (Oklahoma) and Julian Ovenden (South Pacific) recognised in the musical categories, as well as Rafe Spall (To Kill a Mockingbird) and Patsy Ferran (A Streetcar Named Desire) in the play categories. Just five more days to wait until we find out!

These were some really tough choices, but here's what I ultimately settled on:
1) The Olivier Awards at the Royal Albert Hall - Having been a big follower of the awards for the past six years, it was a dream come true to be in the room where it happens. 2) Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Curran Theatre (San Fransisco) - I first saw the original production of the the Cursed Child in 2017, and seeing the reimagined version all these years later reminded me exactly why I had considered it one of my all-time favourites. 3) Oklahoma at the Young Vic & the Golden Gate Theatre (San Fransisco) - Was completely blown away by the production at the Young Vic, so much so that I ultimately decided to see it a second time during my time in San Fransisco! 4) Cinderella at the Gillian Lynne Theatre - I know Cinderella isn't everyone's cup of tea (especially not on this board!), but I still think it's one of the best original scores the West End has had over these past few years. 5) Best of Enemies at the Noël Coward Theatre - James Graham is one of my favourite playwrights (if not my absolute favourite), and I was thrilled to see that his latest play is a worthy addition to his repertoire.
Honourable mentions to The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Moulin Rouge, and Cyrano de Bergerac!

Unless there are any more shows that will open prior to the end of February 2022, I believe this to be the list of eligible musicals in the main categories (oops if I've missed any). Definitely a less "commercial" bunch of shows to last year in the new musicals category. New Musical:101 Dalmatians The Band's Visit Bonnie & Clyde Hex Mandela Newsies Standing at the Sky's Edge Sylvia Tammy Faye Revival
Beauty and the Beast Elf Grease Legally Blonde My Fair Lady Oklahoma! South Pacific Who do we think are the early favourites? For new musical, I would imagine the current contenders would be The Band's Visit, Mandela, Newsies, Standing at the Sky's Edge and Tammy Faye. There's also the possibility that Doubtfire enters the scene, though it may be opening too late to be eligible. As for who might win, that's hard to say considering so many of them have yet to open. I have a hunch Tammy Faye might be a favourite due to the hype and creative team, but there's also a strong argument for The Band's Visit being a favourite. As for revival, the top two contenders seem to be Oklahoma and South Pacific, and I imagine the former is the favourite to win. As for who the other nominee could be, I would assume My Fair Lady, though it seems the reception to that production wasn't quite as positive here as in the States.

Does anyone have a link on where I can watch the Tony Awards? I've been trying to find it on the CBS website, but it looks like you might need Paramount+ (and it's not possible to get this outside of the US I believe).

This year's Tony Award nominations have officially been announced! A Strange Loop, MJ and Paradise Square have emerged with the most nominations on the musical side of things, with The Lehman Trilogy racking up the most nominations in the play department. UK imports have done very well, with Six, Caroline or Change, Girl from the North Country, and Hangmen also making appearances on the list. As for snubs, Katrina Lenk was left out for her performance as Bobbie in Company. Mrs. Doubtfire and Funny Girl were also shut out, accumulating only one nomination each. Full list of nominees here: www.tonyawards.com/nominees/.

As someone pointed out, WhatOnStage posted a 2023 prediction just the other day (link here)! It's early days, but it already seems like it'll be a great year for theatre. Looking back at last year's Oliviers thread, I remember people predicting that Frozen and Anything Goes would be the frontrunners in their respective categories; oh, how times have changed! It's almost impossible to predict how well shows are going to perform this early on in the game, but it does seem To Kill a Mockingbird and Oklahoma are the very early frontrunners. Only time will tell whether that turns true!

According to Mark Shenton, Arinzé Kene has now departed from the role of Bob Marley and has been replaced by his alternate, Michael Duke. Had this been announced in advance? I couldn't find any press releases.

It wouldn't be the Oliviers without everything being a little bizarre!
On the plus side of things, I was absolutely over the moon to see The Invisible Hand nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Affiliate Theatre. It was far and away the best play I saw in 2021, so to see it recognised was both a surprise and a delight.
Also wonderful to see Frozen, Back to the Future, Cabaret and Anything Goes receive a lot of love. In relation to the performances, it's unsurprising but still great to see Jessie Buckley, Eddie Redmayne, Sutton Foster, Robert Lindsay and Hugh Coles all nominated. All of the aforementioned performers gave some of the best portrayals I have ever seen, and all would make worthy winners.
On a different note, I was among those disappointed to see Cinderella snubbed in so many different categories. It seems a little disheartening that we're not rewarding shows with original scores, though I appreciate that the musical is divisive. At the very least, I found it a little odd that the score was snubbed in the Outstanding Achievement in Music, though as others have pointed out, that category is strange to say the least. I would also have liked to have seen Carrie Hope Fletcher nominated.
I may be alone in this, but I was also a little dismayed to see Haydn Oakley snubbed for his performance in Anything Goes. I thought his performance was one of the clear stand-outs in that production, and I personally would have nominated him over Gary Wilmot.
Overall, not the worst set of nominations, but still some arguably odd choices.

It would seem that the release of the cast album has been postponed. The initial release date was on November 26th, but both iTunes and Amazon are now listing a February release date. Maybe they felt it wasn't ready, but it seems strange that they've done this without an official announcement.

Apologies if there is already an existing thread for the Tonys this year. If there is, feel free to merge it with the previous one.
I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way to watch both ceremonies in the UK? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

The Primetime Emmy Award nominations were published yesterday, and there were quite a few surprises. A full list of nominees can be found here: edition.cnn.com/2020/07/28/entertainment/emmy-nominations-2020/index.html. Limited series Watchmen seems to have come out on top, with 11 different nominations. In the meantime, Netflix dominated over other media companies, with their shows gaining 160 nominations. Personally, I thought the biggest shock came with the lack of love for Better Call Saul. Season 5 of BCS has widely been praised as its best year so far, and yet it's been snubbed in almost all of the leading categories. Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks and Rhea Seehorn were all seen as locks for nominations prior to the announcement, but I guess that's just the name of the game. It's a shame, but one can only hope they'll have a little more luck by the time their final season rolls around next year.

Apologies if this has already been asked or answered, but does anyone have a recommendation for which version of Frankenstein to watch (i.e. Cumberbatch as the Monster or Cumberbatch as Frankenstein)? I only really have time to watch one of them, but was a little uncertain as to which one was perhaps better.

Apologies if this has already been answered, but does anyone here know how long "Take Me to the World: A Sondheim 90th Birthday Celebration" will be available online for? I might not have the opportunity to watch it tomorrow, so was hoping I would get the chance to view it later in the week.

I was scrolling through the BroadwayWorld forum and discovered that a thread had been created pondering the question as to which character in a musical most resembles Trump. Among the responses were Thenardier from Les Misérables, Billy Flynn from Chicago and Judge Turpin from Sweeney Todd.
Anyway, it seemed like quite a fun concept, and I thought it could work well on our side of the pond as well. So, without further a do, "what character in a musical most resembles Boris Johnson?".

I'm not sure I can believe that, what with all the shows popping in and out as fillers everywhere. And what's going into the savoy after Sunday then? To be honest, I would have thought that too. It may be possible that Pretty Woman is taking the Savoy however, although that's purely speculation.

A little bit of an update on a potential transfer, although nothing too exciting. Saw Sonia Friedman at the stage door of Rosmersholm last night and asked her if there was any news regarding a Mean Girls West End transfer. She told me that, whilst there are still plans to bring it over, she's finding it immensely difficult to find a theatre. As a result, it doesn't look like a transfer will be happening anytime soon, unfortunately. Still, I'm sure it will make it's way over someday.

Kelsey discussed Man of La Mancha a little bit at a talk show he did last night at the Aldwych Theatre, which was hosted by Ian Lee. Kelsey stated that, despite not reading the reviews himself, he was aware of the "cold critical reception" that the show had received. Despite this, he seemed convinced that Man of La Mancha was adored by the average theatregoer. He then went on to add that the plan is to take the show to Australia, before transferring to New York.
In other news, he also said that he had formed a good friendship with Nicholas Lyndhurst during his time working on the show. When discussing a potential revival of Frasier, he claims he has an idea for the show which would involve Lyndhurst as a cast member.

Dan Buckley has said on his most recent YouTube video about rejection in the industry that he was very close to being cast in Waitress, he got very far in the audition process, and it was one of the few times he was genuinely gutted not to get the role. I'm guessing, of the male roles, Ogie? Would of been a HUGE step up from Jack! He also spoke of a time he went in to audition for a show (he censored the name of it) and he got a phone call saying he was just too fat to play the role, so he will never audition for that show again. It could have been Ogie, however I personally think that he would suit the role of Cal a little more so. Having said that, I'm sure he would have been brilliant at both role's.

The Jungle didn't get a *single* nomination? Based on the eligible productions list, it wasn’t eligible this year (because it was eligible at the Young Vic last year, though didn’t get any nominations then) Thanks for clearing that up. On the one hand, that does excuse the Olivier's for this year's batch. On the other hand though, and whilst I know this is a delayed reaction, I am remain stunned that it didn't get any last year.

I'm usually really disappointed by the Olivier Award nominations, but this year I've been quite happy with the chosen nominees. Of course, there are a few puzzling decisions (after all, they are still the Olivier's), but overall I've been very pleased with these nominations. There are a few decisions that I disagree with, but on the whole it seems to be quite a good list!
The Positives: -Obviously, I'm thrilled for the Hamilton nominations. Jamael Westman, Rachel John and Jason Penycooke were among my favourite performances of the year, and I am rooting for them to win in their respective categories. -Very happy for the Follies love. I thought both Janie Dee and Imelda Staunton were both phenomenal, so glad to see they were both nominated. -Over the moon to see that Ink picked up a few nominations. Ink one of only two plays that I gave a 5 star rating to (the other was Harry Potter), so glad to see it got the recognition it deserves. -The nominations for An American in Paris were a very pleasant surprise. I thought it might be snubbed, so I was ecstatic to see that it picked up a few nominations. -Also glad to see Follies, Jamie, 42nd Street, Young Frankenstein, Oslo and Dick Whittington pick up a few nominations! All of those were excellent and very worthy of all of the nominations that they received. -It was nice to see Paul Brown being recognised for his work on Iolanthe. For those that didn't know, Brown passed away in November last year. Luckily, his legacy has lived on.
The Negatives: -Where was Obioma Ugoala?! He is arguably the best supporting actor in all of Hamilton, and that seems to be a fairly popular opinion, so why was he snubbed? I quite liked both Michael Jibson and Cleve September, but neither of them were anywhere near as good as Obioma Ugoala. -I personally feel that The Grinning Man should have been nominated over Girl From The North Country for the Outstanding Achievement in Music. I haven't see Girl From The North Country yet, but surely an original score should be nominated over a jukebox musical? -A little sad to see David Tennant (Don Juan), Richard Coyle (Ink), Tamsin Greig (Labour of Love) and Anne-Marie Duff (Heisenberg) not receive nominations. In all fairness though, I haven't seen any of the other nominees in those two categories (Best Leading Actor in a Play and Best Leading Actress in a Play), so I'm probably not the best person to be commenting on those categories. Additionally, I know I was in a minority that actually liked Tennant's performance in Don Juan, so not quite as surprised about that one than Coyle and Greig being snubbed. -Didn't realise this was eligible originally, but after reading that it is, I'm a little surprised to see no nominations for Lady Windermere's Fan (particularly for Samantha Spiro and Jennifer Saunders).

Thank you all for your advice and taking the time to respond to my original post. 3 days after the original issue occurred, the warning on my blog has now been taken off. The only problem remaining is that a few of my tweets have still disappeared, but hopefully this will also be rectified soon.
