Rumour around Stratford today that earliest RSC will open is February 21...........seems harsh, but came from staff member who is furloughed and told by management.

Yes...the list of missing directors is strange although I guess, for many, they simply don’t want to come any more.Van Hove,Icke, etc work with highly established ensembles and look at Icke staging Oedipus in London with Mark Strong and Helen Mirren.
Voice plays little part in RSC core work and suspect more a voluntary add on if wanted.
Hope 2020 Christmas has wider appeal.....this one is bland and style very dated. Sometimes,I feel, this particular group believe they understand the young audience but frankly it fails to tune in to the now despite forcing it.
I agree Greg was good pre AD appointment. . Often safe but very high values in every department. Not sure that Greg is directing Henry V1 .,,.i think it may be his associate from previous histories with Greg doing R 111.
Ah well...all should be revealed in week or so if Patrons already have it ......

The Cure
Greg to assume power and lead from front
Careful and better selection of Directors who have passion and experience.
Assemble strong ensemble of actors with experience in playing classical work
Create season from a March to October. With winter season shorter and include house dramatist alongside the family outing
Enable Swan to return to mission of Shakespeare’s contemporaries
New writing at TOP with transfer potential if show works
Restore voice department on all work
Keep Erica Whyman in role as Deputy and not Artistic Director.......
Be aware and willing to use diversity policies but don’t put it above everything else
Ensure adults across all ages are welcome and don’t always be a school room.......adults enjoy their own theatre and challenges
Identify a successor and begin planning together.....look at who is making Classical work that inspires and challenges
Plan seasons that perhaps relate but cease to be a list........we predict Henry V111 and All’s Well next year in this never ending must do canon......why does a play need to be done now....look at how it relates
Be the RSC that stated it’s mission clearly with Peter Hall and excite is all again.......

So..if Boy In The Dress does give RSC a boost in confidence, perhaps now they will put the same energy into the key repertoire.Funny that all the fuss is for this rather than the core role of company.

so....something has certainly happened at rsc recently-the new season announcement is more about the plays, the inclusion in the folio, elements of healing etc for main house whilst swan/top does seem to have a mission to explore and connect with european theatre practices -not least the art of dramaturgy. the absence this year is the rsc speak of access/diversity/new audiences/seeing oneself etc....perhaps now they treat this as given so no longer need to adopt the righteous awareness. the season looks promising and the approach to the work more appealing.i was fed up with the lectures every time i journeyed to stratford...i also saw in the past season some dire performances so i approach the new year with a very cautious optimism.
yes-greg may go after canon complete..do hope henry v1 is on main stage with r111 in winter season next year with strong casting...but i dont see a replacement in the company nor indeed 'over the water'... it could well be a very crucial year in stratford with new costume dept opening etc....i hope they return to greatness so that i can agree with the statement greg makes about 'greatest classical company in the world'.....i think we are far off right now but i would love to regain a positive and exciting attitude to the company.+

rather more exciting than usual for rsc......which is good and seems to be free of any woke style declarations. europa may not sell lots of tickets but a fascinating selection of work with directors from europe heartland...get everything sorted pre-brexit please.
hope henry v1/richard 111 dominate winter to complete the plans laid out in king and country-without a greg production this summer and no brimson -lewis design suggests a long rehearsal/development plan.
greg will be recovering from boy in the dress,i guess.
love to see the rsc fight back after very poor run of shows and some lousy casting .

Cant help feeling sorry for poor old RSC........desperate to woo young audiences and now facing a boycott from those very audiences on £5 tickets who will cease going because of BP.
What are they to do....?

thats very sad. i do believe it. is there no hope,i wonder to redevelop this into a front line company......
victims of dumbing classical texts to lowest levels, employing on whole, sub league actors and directors.
the rsc inspired me. thats why it is a personal issue now as i feel their arrogance has led to the situation.

they have truly lost the plot.....
in a dream scenario Goold would have revolutionised the place......no hope now-will descend into provincial house and would not surprise me in a few years to be a receiving house with reduced shakespeare season.
