If this is the one that toured small arenas a few years back - it was DIRE! Even the kids that went with my group were bored!

Saw this last night and really enjoyed the whole show. The cast are great and I think Lesley Joseph steals scenes - her comment about farming brought the house down!! Its no problem that it is simply staged and is a typical Mel Brooks show, very funny even when you know what is coming next. Why do the critics come down on it so? Tell people its a fun show, so go laugh and have a great time in the theatre! I know the Garrick is an oldie but the pillars are rather a nuisance. It will last a good time I am sure of it - sorting out my next visit.

Saw this on the Thursday matinee. Pretty full in the stalls and the dress looked also. Set was big and very spectacular, lots of things going all over the place. The said link to Peter Pan as a sort of basis in the story (for what it was worth), when Tink was killed, I was waiting for the "everyone clap and say they like fairies, then he will live"! How did the boys get frozen, who did it - what happened in the end? Dunk the villain in water and her is changed? All go away together?? The story as everyone said was rubbish. I didn't feel much for the two young people but thought that Falco and Sloane were really excellent, as were Zahara, Jagwire, Ledoux and Blake. Ben Flowler as Falco has done some excellent shows in Germany. Thought the so called choreography was very much like watching a keep fit practice. But a great afternoon at the theatre and enjoyed the music after all these years. You may be able to tell me but, with him saying so much against the "older people in coaches" - how did Honoured Guest feel about the audience for this show??? They were mainly late 40's up to 70's and talking to some they had actually come along in a coach - "shock horror". Finished it off with a return to "Willows" in the evening. Only half full which is a pity but the audience loved it, the kids were really into it shouting poop! poop! through it. All the little changes coming together after the start at Plymouth. I still feel it has some excellent music in it, takes a couple of times to get into it but no where near as bad as the reviews. It is a good family musical and probably do well on a UK tour plus I will probably get shot down for it but if we all like the same you would all say things are boring.

I saw this show on Wednesday's matinee and LOVED it!! Never seen the play on its many tours of the UK. I laughed and cried during the show along with most in the audience around me. Being in the same position as John in the story, it was well put over how it all affects the rest of the family and friends. Looking forward to the cast recording as some excellent songs in there. Plus what will upset Honoured Guest, is there was a lot of seniors attending along with quite a LOT of younger people as well! Cant wait to see this on tour, but I expect a new cast?

I saw this first in Plymouth when it started the short tour. It is and was a very good family show and received very good reviews. The sets built by the Theatre Royal were a great reflection of the riverbank and homes. IF they had copied something like the Nationals depiction of the homes in their version of Willows, you all would have said "oh cant come up with something original". Once you have heard the music a couple of times there are some good songs there. I was also there on Wednesday and thought Chris did a great job as toad and was far better the Mr Hound, especially as he had not run through the show before. There were quite a few changes in most scenes from Plymouth - I did feel a bit of over kill on the weasels and stoats with what seemed longer musical scenes with them. The part where (asmdsmsandm) says girls came to the front of the stage and sang a song - they were supposed to be "air-hostesses" - swallows flying back for summer. Also the hedgehog song is good and something a bit different to bring them into the story with a bit of humour - also a lot of the animals sang their own bits during the show. This board is all about discussion about shows and is very interesting to read, but remember not everyone goes to shows many times a week or month as people who can get into London easily can. Further afield from London it is a night out for most a couple of times a year - so please remember a lot go to sit and be entertained for an evening without thinking of the deeper places of the story. Yes they would say "that wasn't very good" or "a bit slow", but most would go and tell friends "I really enjoyed that". I expect to be slapped down for this and I also don't like some shows I have seen but I feel a tour of this would do well in the sticks more than London.

Knowing how well the music from the cartoon was enjoyed years ago, it has a head start from families that loved the cartoon. Thank goodness they dumped the Bat and Rasputin. But having seen this and heard the response from the audience,I reckon this would sell much better in London then Evan Hanson.

It was a Theatre Royal Plymouth production originally and directed by Roger Redfarn. It transferred to London from Plymouth. Barry Manilow came over to see it and wanted a lot of changes which didn't go down too well I remember. One of the many musicals that we sent from Plymouth to London in the Royal heyday!!

I hope this is doing a good selection of theatres and not a very short tour. Always loved the music and was an amazing show at Charing Cross.

With regards to Theatre Monkey's question about what souvenirs are for sale - nothing other than programmes. Strange programmes showed plenty of "Julie's" pictures but apart from a small picture of each of the leads - no pictures of the production at all. I did ask is there any souvenirs for sale and told "there are chocolates??" I would say it was full from what I could see this afternoon. Has some excellent points, dancing, musicians and singing. Stunning opening - very different from other productions. Both leads were far better than I thought, with Alfie really giving it welly singing wise, but very wooden in the acting stakes. Katherine was better than thought she would be and maybe relax into the role as she progresses.

Came up on face book yesterday, that the La Jolla and Paper Mill production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame will start in Berlin at the Theatre des Westerns in April 2017!!
Lets hope Disney may have seen the light and get rid of Aladdin and bring it over here??

Does anyone who has seen the show already know if Sheridan is not doing the matinees? No one at the theatres seems to know if she is or she isn't?? Seeing it next week in Bristol.

Saw Beauty & the Beast on Broadway before it came to London - loved it, even though we could say it was rather panto (starts in a village - don't all pantos?). I also saw over time Aida, Newsies, Little Mermaid and Hunchback when at Papermill. Loved Lion King and Mary Poppins in the UK. There was the bit about Disney cutting out the bit where the toys turn on the children on Broadway - would frighten the American kids - they let them shot guns!! I also agree with some comments here regarding Mermaid and Newsies. Loved Aida and seem to remember some thing of a rumour stating it wouldn't go down well in the UK?? How many Opera companies do Aida each year. What twaddle is that!! As for Hunchback that was total magic as far as I was concerned and Disney should be made to release it under Menken/Schwartz banner. They seem to think it isn't good enough to go to Broadway and its been given to schools etc to produce - what a waste!!

We used to sent convicts to Oz years ago, couldn't we send Horwood over there for ruining perfectly good shows??? I am sure the Musicians Union would be extremely delighted!
