There we are. Three times at least!! What were the basic lyrics to I Got Me? 'I Got me, and that's all I need' or am I misremembering?! And yet they still fawn over Greaseball and need another man to race with. It made no sense. If they wanted to make a real stand for womens right, why not have a female engine to race against Greaseball?? Agreed! They should just have Dinah fawning over him and have her independence bit in the second half. Also they need to mix up the genders more. Flat-top could be female. The quiet carriage or sleeping car could be male. (I think the reason for not doing that would be how it sounds though.) Electra is crying out to be female, just listen to Josie Aiello's version, more so than Poppa I would say although I would happily have them both be female and just Greaseball and Rusty male. If they could just make it clear that all they cared about was racing and being with the fastest (apart from the two love stories) that would be ideal.

So true. They could even have used Momma in Girls' Rolling Stock like Belle on the OLC. I know she's an engine but it shouldn't matter. They had new lyrics for it in Bochum for the English show so why not use them for the workshop. It's only two and a half minutes long and it's a shame for the characters. They did indeed! And yup it's so short and so many of the fans love it! Was not in the original tours but was back in the most recent one. Funny you were at the English show; reckon we must have been at a few Starlights together without realising! Don't think I replied to this - how rude of me. I haven't been to many other 'important' nights apart from the last night of the last UK Tour in Milton Keynes. I hope it's not too long until it's back in the UK, even with the stuff I didn't like as much I'd still love it more than most other shows I'm sure.

There were some things related to the plot, but just odd character names and then it started with swearing etc. The audience then shouting get her out didn't add to the ambience!! I can imagine. At least it worked. Shame the first half was spoiled.

What was she shouting? Things to do with the plot? (I'm not trying to make excuses, just interested.)

I can only give you the song list from memory that we had on Friday. I'll leave the races out but they're on iTunes. The stuff between the songs is often different to anything recorded so I'll just list the songs if that's OK. ACT ONE: Overture 1992 Entry of National Trains Rolling Stock 1984 Crazy Call Me Rusty I Got Me Freight 1992 AC/DC 1992 Pumping Iron 1984 Coda of Freight Make Up My Heart Momma's (Poppa's) Blues 1992 Laughing Stock Starlight Express ACT TWO: The Rap 1992 U.N.C.O.U.P.L.E.D. 1984 (1992 is more countrified though) (Right Place, Right Time 1992) Starlight Sequence 1992 I Got Me (Dinah's Disconnection) One Rock'n'Roll Too Many I Do Light At The End Of The Tunnel 1992 Edit: The 1984 version of U.N.C.O.U.P.L.E.D. has pretty much the introduction we had. In fact the 1984 version has a lot of the introductions to songs we had whereas the 1992 version tends to be just the songs. Actually I'll go back and give my suggestions of which version to listen to which would be most like we saw on Friday (if I don't put a date next to it either doesn't exist or is too different. (One Rock'n'Roll too many is a duet on both recordings.) Thank you so much! I don't know how much it changed between Friday and Saturday but that's brilliant, thank you, I can now YouTube songs to my heart's content I'm sure other people will disagree with the year's I've said and might want to add bits but that's the bare bones. Right Place, Right Time was only performed on Friday apparently.

Have to say I didn't enjoy the portrayal of Electra on Friday - nothing to do with the shoes although they were unnecessarily hideous.

Really want to see it (IT). Me and my cousins used to watch horror movies when we were young and still do now so hopefully I'll go with one of them. A bit worried about the comparisons to Stranger Things (not just from you BurlyBeaR) which I didn't like much. I hope I do manage to see it at the cinema.

Did anyone notice how slow Rolling Stock was? Even Pumping Iron was a bit slower I think. Very much so! Thought was way too slow the first time but on going again I quite liked it. Though (at the risk of sounding like a broken record) would be even better contrasted against an uptempo Girl's Rolling Stock in Act 2! So true. They could even have used Momma in Girls' Rolling Stock like Belle on the OLC. I know she's an engine but it shouldn't matter. So Right Place Right Time cut again this afternoon! No idea why as had been staged brilliantly on Friday..... Otherwise it was fabulous! Interesting. I wonder why they cut it again. I liked the new 'rap' verse in it.

I have to say, steve10086 that I've grown to love A Whole Lotta Locomotion. I hated it on the first tour but the reworking on the 2012-13 tour made it very poppy and fun. Of course it has nothing to do with the story. I think that's the same with I Got Me. It's a good pop song which means nothing to the show. At least with A Whole Lotta Locomotion once it was finished you didn't hear it again until the Megamix. You hear I Got Me far too much. It's also the same with I Do, a nice enough pop song but nothing to do with the story, at least with Next Time You Fall In Love they said the word Starlight even if the context wasn't great. I think with I Do and I Got Me they feel like they were already written and plonked into the show rather than having the lyrics be written specifically for the show.

Glad you enjoyed it d'james. So many questions... Was the overused song 'I Got Me'? It was only used once on Wednesday. Is Electra still in those red heels? Is the opening of Act 2 a new or old song? I wasnt sure. Wish i could go back tomorrow Yes I Got Me. Momma sang it before a race, Dinah sang it when disconnecting Electra, they all sang it to celebrate Rusty winning instead of the usual 'well done Rusty, King of the track.' I think it was used more times. As I said, it's a shame not to have the melody of Engine of Love (the first song written for the show) in there at all. As for The Rap, it was mainly based on the 1992 one lyric wise. It tells more of a story than It's Race Time did/does but the 1984 one really furthers the story best. They should look at updating that. I liked the fact it was a capella with just stamping feet but I don't see how that would work on skates. I liked the added bits in Right Place, Right Time. Momma seemed to have less to do in this production. I guess it's because she wasn't in The Rap.

Well I was there tonight. Spoilers, obvs.
There were quite a few empty seats. I wonder if the attack on the train earlier put people off.
It was good. I liked the way they'd integrated Crazy a bit more. It's a shame to have lost the melody of Engine of Love/He Whistled At Me altogether.
I was never going to love the new song. It's OK. At the end of the first half I didn't like it and by the end of the second half I'd grown to like it and then was sick of it as they really overused it.
I'm a bit disappointed they didn't go back and find songs from Starlight's past and see if they could reuse them rather than a new song, but they always seem to like shoving in a new song.
The new characters were fine although terribly underused. They really need a Girls Rolling Stock moment. That should be put back in or maybe the new song could go there instead.
I get that the ensemble actors were playing multiple roles, but it annoyed me when Volta(r? it sounded like he pronounced it with an 'r.') changed gender halfway through act one and when the actor playing Espresso changed.
Mica Paris was fantastic but I wish they'd replaced Poppa's Blues rather than just turning it into Momma's Blues. I think they should rewritten Belle the Sleeping Car with words about Momma instead.
Dustin was my favourite and I loved Dinah's boots.
I didn't like the references to the real world much, mentioning people like Bjork wasn't right.
I think the way Pearl was played worked in this production but wouldn't in the show proper. I'll probably think of more things to add later.
I know it sounds negative above but it was a great night.

I also enjoyed the film. What did everyone else think?

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't we only know for sure of one pwrson who is leaving, that being Amber? So theres no point being sad if the others may be staying! And even then, knowing what is gonna happen afterward, I'm half and half happy and sad Amber will leave. 😂😂 Amber, Liisi and Adam are the confirmed to be leaving cast members. Shame about Adam.

If anyone is going multiple times, write up your opinions after the first show and take them with you for the next show.

Perhaps we should change the name of the thread until the 19th of November.
Dreamgirls - Amber's last night is the 18th of November. Other people may be leaving. We can't guarantee anyone will be performing on any date.

Thanks for the first report! Doesn't sound like the big overhaul that was first suggested. "I got me" is "Nie genug" presumably? It replaced "A lotta locomotion" in Germany a few years ago and nobody likes it. Ditto "I do". We'll see. Nie Genug was first in the UK in 2004. It doesn't sound like they're taking any risks.

Word has it that Tyrone has canceled his 2 pm Pizza Express gig on the 24th - if so, that is a shame. Has he missed many shows in this run? I think I read about one.

It's assumed that Tassita is replacing Buffy and Belle replacing Ashley but that could be way off the mark. I still hope they've brought Belle back proper, but if anyone was going to sing that song, surely it'd be Mica Paris. Maybe they've turned the song 'Belle' into a song to replace Poppa's Blues.
All speculation/wishes until later.
I guess they're using the ensemble actors to sing components and freight trucks. I thought we had confirmation somewhere that someone was playing at least one Hopper.
Not long now.
