The entire play is retold again, which I didn’t find repetitive at all, although I can see that some might see it that way. I saw it that way, I had a thought I was in Punxsutawney minus Bill Murray. I would have preferred to have seen the second version ( H Atwell plays the Deputy) but as a full version of the play.

With all the awards this won I was slightly surprised @ how much I didn't take to this. Maybe it's a case of fluid in my ears but vocally,I thought a few of the cast wrestled with the score. It seemed like it was more difficult to sing than one might think.

This play had a Shakespearean quality to it, with the principal love interest dialogue written in verse. I'm still undecided if it really worked but the first Act seemed overly long.In addition, frequent fluffed lines by a particular cast member ( may be nerves) became a slight distraction or was it hearing a loud cheer when Brazil scored.

Get 2 for 1 standing tickets by entering promo code 2KINSMEN41 online, or quoting the code over the phone or at the box office. If you’d rather sit, quote NOBLE20 for £20 best available seats.*
Offers for the globe, looks like this production may be slow in selling.

Does Multi-Buy mean that anyone can buy tickets, as long as they are buying tickets for more than one opera? Multi-buy went active on the the 15th May, so non members can buy tickets for 2 or more productions from then.

She did the mat last Thursday Did you see Jenny? How was she? No I went in the evening & was told by the front of house team that Jenny did the matinee, so I guess she may cover the matinees considering the vocal exertions caused by doing two shows in a day for this show.

This is a ridiculous comparison As people constantly get up and come in and out at the cinema And walk about Also the seats are a lot more comfortable in the cinema Like leather car seats It’s silly to compare cinema to theatre Sitting in the cinema is a lot more comfortable more leg room Have a chat Eat food have drinks Not sitting on rock hard benches Crammed next to BO stinking people I agree that the seats in cinemas are in general more comfortable, but it is not true to say that people are constantly coming and going or that they are eating and chatting (certainly not in the cinemas I go to) - and how old are the people you know who can't go for two hours without eating or talking? I really don't think that theatre-goers have worse BO than cinema-goers. I must have seen 1500-2000 plays in the past 30 years and have never been offended at someone's smell. Where has rock-hard benches?

Is Jenny Fitzpatrick good? Would be interesting to read comments from those that have had the opportunity to see both performers. Anyone seen both Jenny & Adrienne yet or is it too early in the run for those to make a second visit. But Adrienne raised the bar stratospherically, and the coup de grace that knocks you over is the closing song before the curtain call, well conceived.

How to add complexity to a plot name characters, Wilwoud,Wishfort,Waitwell, Wilful Mincing,Millamant,Mirabel & wait for it Marawood - Do you see a pattern.
First Act ponderous, Wordy & lots of prattle that doesn't add to the plot or drive the narrative forward. Probably, explaining vacant seats after the interval.
It's all about Act 2 which picks up pace, is comical, engaging & provides the much needed entertainment. There's a sort of Benedict - Beatrice thing going on between Mirabel & Millamant which Geoffrey Streatfeild plays out well ( reminded me of Colin Firth's Mr Darcy) & Heyden Gwynne also gets my praise for her depiction of Lady W.
An ambitious director may have chosen to trim Act 1 ( considerably).

Iolanthe is one Sullivan's very best scores, with more developed musical numbers than in his other operettas, great melodic charm and some exquisite scoring, worthy of Mendelssohn or Weber. The music was done considerable justice in this performance. So I did enjoy it, but I've a funny feeling I'll enjoy Sasha Regan's version even more! Completely agree it's a shame the comedy provided a distraction at times

Act 4 proved to be less mundane than the previous 3 acts. The time incremental jumps were too short which just added to the vast mundaneness but explains why this was a 2 part play initially - the need to bloat. I stayed after the interval predicting (wrongly) the time shift would be more dramatic. Since this is an autobiography of the protagonist from childhood to adulthood (18yrs old) a year on year account of her life proved too much for me. Within all the bloat text exists a half decent play. However, to have any chance of seeing this would require condensing the first 3 acts into 1 act.

Can't believe I actually managed to get a ticket for the Anna Netrebko MACBETH today! Really excited to finally hear her live. I booked for the night of the cinema relay. Has anyone else booked for these before? How is it in terms of seat obstruction with cameras etc? Just hope see does her full quota of performances. She has let many people down before.

Each actors self narration of their own character was a distraction, possibly the actor that played Elegba would have been better to be the narrator since he featured least in the play.

The only thing that stopped this production from tanking for me was the performance of Manville & Keenan. Irons depiction of James Sr. just didn't work for me & Beard was the weakest link.
