Was forced to watch my first ever episode of Ghosts - the most unamusing 29 minutes I've ever spent. Panto acting and a mirth free script, baffled that this has lasted for a couple of series. Just reinforced why I've never paid the licence fee. The thing with Ghosts is that you need to know the characters to become fonder of them…..it doesn’t work if you don’t know all the ins and outs. Then you become proper fond of them and start rooting for them…..and it becomes magic. Great call. It’s wonderful television

First two hours of Wolf Hall tonight (2 episodes of 6), from 10.15 on BBC4: Mark Rylance, Damian Lewis, Claire Foy, Jonathan Pryce. Divorces ensue. I thought The English with Emily Blunt was keenly structured, now on yer iPlayer (6 x 1 hour episodes) <<< not Christmas, particularly Do they put spoilers out that this is a dramatization so that nobody thinks it is real?

People do realise this is bad behaviour at a show and not being a miserable sod at a show. I suspect some people would ban laughter at a comedy gig if they had their way. You say that. but I actually did get told off once for laughing too much at a comedy! He he Intriguing this one. Told off by the act, ushers or other audience members?

I find it interesting that the likes of Craig Revel-Horwood and Anton Du Beke do panto given it's when they are on Strictly especially Craig who is in Bristol this year and Anton who's in Bromley. I assume the BBC has cars for them so they can get to Elstree and back. No shows on Strictly Saturday. Whatabout Sundays?

I liked the smells part. Can you smell the difference between wines and know what is cheap? Then what a nose that they hadn’t just been smoking but it was two day old cigarettes. Never heard it described in such a way. And with the sickly sweet perfume I just see a vision of a red setter nose at the theatre Red setter... :-) I think it's pretty easy to differentiate cheap wine when it is being poured out of a bag and you can almost smell the acidity of it. Unfortunately, it was olfactory overload. Not a big wine drinker so not my specialist subject. Guess there are exceptions to the rule

Quick disclaimer: my mum's a northerner from Yorkshire so it's not northernist... but... ARGH! We were surrounded at Back To The Future on Monday by the brashest, loudest, most coarse party of northern folk you could ever hope not to meet. Shouting across seats to each other, one particularly loud Karen giving a commentary behind me, a Sharon next to me chirping like a canary and 'talking' to the stage in some kind of basic call and response activity (though the stage never actually called), and a slightly embarrassed Darren two rows in front, desperately trying to disown the party he was with. They stank of cheap wine (smuggled in somehow and covertly poured from a bag), two day old cigarettes (or maybe their pockets were the ashtray) and sickly sweet perfume. It's about time theatre staff sorted these rabble-rousers out. Their gung-ho alcohol induced bravado, heckling actors, and generally being a nuisance really spoilt things for anybody unfortunate enough to sit near them. I think most people (myself included) are nervous when people have had SO much to drink, as you know their judgement will already be skewed and intervention could see a glass in one's face. Such people need to either be priced out or kicked out. I hope they were all violently ill on the coach back up the M1. I liked the smells part. Can you smell the difference between wines and know what is cheap? Then what a nose that they hadn’t just been smoking but it was two day old cigarettes. Never heard it described in such a way. Oxfordsimon and Burley Bear have got a klaxon that goes off when someone posts about Megan Markle. They are so quick on the subject. I have searched settings but I can’t find the button. Either a mods thing option or very strong feelings on the subject Why the need to make this personal? Feels unnecessary to focus an attack on two members. I thought better of this place Soz. Was just trying to be funny. And a looking in from the outside when I don’t have overly strong opinions. I know you could say the same about me for instance when we have a Tory party pile on.

Sorry. Really long post. Went to a matinee at Hope Mill Theatre today. The seating plan made it look like I was off to one side but I found the seat was actually pretty central. Was a really nice surprise. Less nice was when a load of Scouse women came in and, with a loud ‘oh, sh*t!’ from one of them, started piling into the row behind. One of them had one of those little wheeled suitcases, which the usher tried to get them to put behind the bar, to no avail. Really boisterous considering it was only early, I was surprised to hear they were only on lemonade. The lights went down and of course they chatted amongst themselves during the little overture, which is always annoying, but I thought ‘they’ll shut up once the show starts properly.’ They didn’t. On and on they went, oblivious to the people on the front row turning and glaring at them and I noticed one of the cast giving them dirty looks too. Then one of them got up for the toilet, ignored the usher trying to take her out the back way, and went out along the little aisle in front of the stage. I made a beeline for the loo myself the moment the interval started and returned to find that the usher had had a word while I was away. Apparently they had been asked to keep quiet as the noise they were making was upsetting the cast. Much chuntering and carping and swearing about how they’ve been treated… they’re only showing their appreciation… they didn’t know it’s not a pantomime… can’t believe they’ve been spoken to like a child… One of them made a dig about the usher, referred to as ‘the her/him with the glasses.’ Another was fuming and decided she wasn’t staying, though only made it as far as the bar apparently. I was hoping they’d all follow her lead and do one, but no such luck. Then one of them started crying which attracted the attention of someone apparently on the management side. He tried to smooth it over, apologising to THEM, told them he’d get the usher reassigned to another area and was there anything he could do to get the one who’d thrown a strop to come back in. I’ve read on here before about disruptive idiots being treated with kid gloves but that’s the first time I’ve seen it in person. I’m not a confrontational person but the more I think about it, the more I wish I’d said something. Can’t believe the usher would get in trouble for asking people to stop disrupting the performance. As the second act got under way they were then moaning about how other people are aloud to laugh. As if laughing at a joke is comparable to talking all the way through the first act in a tiny venue where you’re only a few feet away from the actors. Astounding lack of self-awareness. After that they did actually shut up for the most part for act two. Apart from them it was a good show. I’m glad I was able to see it as it looks to have sold out right after I got my ticket. As a side note, the one that ran out to the toilet didn’t realise the loos are unisex and somehow missed the urinals on the wall so had the fright of her life when she came out of the cubicle to find a bunch of men peeing. 😂 Had something like this but not as bad. I sent a quick note of support of the usher to the theatre manager

I'm not entirely sure if that's supposed to be a joke? So an audience member should have to sit with their hands over their ears or move from the seat they've specifically booked because other people can't behave themselves? It may be better to speak to a member of staff though who could broach the subject with the talkers more anonymously. If it was during the show itself, I'd totally understand but during the interval it's no different to someone discussing a show or film they've just seen on the way home on the bus or the train, it's not great but demanding people stop talking about the show is a bit confrontational IMO. Do people think that? Interval the best time isn't it if you are not close enough so as not to cause any interruptions

Didn't know where to put this but have I been missing something or have our titles changed on here recently? Just noticed I'm now a "leading player". When did this happen? I'm not complaining about being a lead but I quite like the idea of being a "swing". Yeah I'm a swinger

This is so weird. Surely they won't be able to reunite the cast? Won't the sets have been removed? I remember the owners of the houses on the news talking about how relieved they were that it was over! I'm pretty sure Amazon will have no problem building a few new cheap sets, it's not like they're strapped for cash Good news this and pretty obvious because the cast they finished with was amazing. Looking forward to this

Watched the second half of the series, I guess it was a decade dominated by Diana and Charles. I love the break out episodes like Aberfan, and the Romanov's episode was equally good. The strong music with deep thinking characters interspersed by dramatised scenes are very good. It felt like the last three episodes were packed with them.
Really enjoyed another series. Superbly written with some great acting

I don't think the bakers were at fault for the quality of the final. It was all down to the excessively demanding challenges with not enough time. Remember back in the early series, when we’d see the bakers sitting with a cup of tea while their bakes were in the oven? Now they’re working on two other elements at least during the baking time. It looks so stressful! I don’t watch Bake Off for stressful. Didn't connect with anyone this year. Jurgen and Guiseppe last year was completely different

Ooo I've got a story for this. Years ago I worked on a London fringe production of an Olivier and Tony award-winning musical. It was the first non-large-scale commercial version of this show in the UK, and a modern show to boot, so an ambitious project for a small venue. Anyway it went well, even won a "Best Off-West End Production Award", and the critics all loved it. Bar one. One, who will remain nameless, is in what I would consider the glorified blogger category of reviewers. Now, they may not have liked the show, fine. But given they called up on the day demanding an extra free ticket to that evening's press performance to be told "No, that theatre is small, and it is too late to arrange an extra comp on top of the one you already have, we're completely full" and then they threw a paddy, we couldn't help but feel this outlier review and the reviewer's self-importance might be linked. Deffo Billington 😀

Never mind the wrong section....one poor lady at 'The Upstart Crow' on Saturday found herself in the wrong theatre. She was supposed to be at the Lyric to see 'Get up, stand up'. Cue a very entertaining discussion with people sitting in 'her' seat and much hilarity when the penny dropped! How does that even happen with all the ticket scanning nowadays? I once had someone trying to evict me from my seat, it turned out he had definitely bought a ticket for my seat, but for the day after. They offered him the chance to stay (the show wasn’t full, Petula Clark in Sunset Boulevard) or to return on the correct day. What option did he take?

My guilty pleasure is Big ’Big’, as in the multi-million grossing, Oscar-nominated, ‘73’ on Metacritic, beloved comedy? That was more a not my normal type film rather than a bad film. But for some reason I like it a lot and have watched it far too many times. Yeah you are right, I’m in the wrong thread

Four episodes in and i have the opposite opinion to be honest. Weakest season so far. It's quite disjointed, slow, but yet rushed. The fall out of episode 2 doesnt seem to have materialised which seems odd as characters just appear to accept what happened. Yet again it's all on Charles and Diana, when fergie and Andrew were also a big story at the time but they are again minor characters with whole plots just explained in one conversation. The new cast are mostly excellent however, particularly Imelda as Queen Elizabeth. Although the queen mother yet again isn't right and princess Anne doesn't quite have the forceful presence of the last two seasons. Oooh can't wait for episode two. Yeah I thought the same about Anne and the Queen mum. As well as Johnny Lee Miller and Imelda Staunton's performances I enjoyed Elizabeth Dubicki's princess Di
