Open House tour of Shaftesbury Theatre this morning. They've huge plans to expand to the side (into the pavement and road) for extended bar and piazza, improved disabled access and more ladies loos ... The tour was absolutely great, about an hour long, 11 of us on the 11.30 tour, at social distance - through the auditorium, up to the stage, down to the orchestra "pit" (they've a corner at the back of the stage with the percussion in a separate box ...), up up up to dressing rooms, costume and wig department, up on to the roof (!), down to the complex rigging and down to the Grand Circle. So glad I got a ticket, so glad I decided to go (with the increase in Covid cases - I drove in rather than tube, ££ on parking and ££ on congestion charge). What's on the roof? Are the views across London good?

Less than eight weeks since Johnson's go for a patriotic pint message. The wrong man for the job Agreed. when pubs re-opened it was advertised as New Year without fireworks. Then the eat out to help out scheme introduced by the chancellor, was only going to go one way and we now see that in the sharp rises in cases. Less than three weeks since the get office workers back to work speech. The wrong man for the job

The real world as you eloquently point out is one where Covid is surging again, which will kill many Vulnerable people. No point in making laws if you are not going to enforce them. Get some of the police out of canteens and get them to do what they are paid for, get some of the thousands of police that are used for diplomatic protection to enforce, Failing any of that get the army. So not fantasy idealism but the world needs protecting from idiots. Really support the enforce laws you make, but really against the army on the streets

They could test a million people and find a hundred thousand cases but unless that translates into mass hospital admissions, the world needs to go on in the most normal way as possible. Finding cases due to mass testing is certainly worthwhile because identifying them translates into preventing those folks from spreading the virus. (And since they now think that up to 71% of people who have the virus are asymptomatic, the majority of these people would never show up in hospital admissions and would go around unwittingly infecting other people.) Did I write that?

You must be livid at the latest testing failures of this government. We should really be on the streets about this shouldn't we? To be quite honest I don’t give a crap. They could test a million people and find a hundred thousand cases but unless that translates into mass hospital admissions, the world needs to go on in the most normal way as possible. Wow

And if the virus gave a crap what anyone wants that would be a useful attitude. If you have a solution that will allow us to get our lives back without hundreds of thousands of people losing theirs then let's hear it. Saying you don't want to put up with it is like saying you don't want to get older. No matter how many times you say it, it doesn't change a thing. Until we have a cure every business has to work out a way to work around the necessities. If they can't, they can't. Nobody gets a free pass because life is difficult. Well we can all make our own decisions can't we. We can't sacrifice the wider economic structure because of a disease that is natural. Don't want covid? Then don't go out. You must be livid at the latest testing failures of this government. We should really be on the streets about this shouldn't we?

They also want Look Back in Anger removed from the curriculum If I were a casting director, I would be looking to avoid current RADA students for future projects. No-one needs that sort of person in the rehearsal room or on set. Put them on the blacklist?

Makes sense why Starmer has gone missing, he wanted to cede to Ed Miliband for this debate so Miliband could serve up Johnson and regrout the walls of Westminster with the prime minister

I remember there was a TV series here in 1983 "Minipops" on Channel 4 which ran into exactly the same controversy. It was cancelled almost immediately and Channel 4 reverted to their more intellectual high-minded content such as "Naked Attraction" and "Me and My Penis". As a child I loved minipops and thought it was amazing. It was only as an adult I found out it was also loved by perverts and so cancelled. This. Apart from I have only just found out

Here's a list of all the plays that have won the Pulitzer Prize. www.pulitzer.org/prize-winners-by-category/218There are 89 of them. I have seen 5 of them (on stage, films don't count). Who has seen more ? (Well, everyone probably because I don't go to many modern plays or American plays). Here are the ones I've seen: Glengarry Glen Ross The Great White Hope Death of a Salesman The Time of Your Life Our Town Can you add more to this list ? Between us have we seen all 89 ? I know a lot of these have been on in London/UK, but there are also quite a few I've never heard of. Why was no award given in 2006? There are some finalists

The advertisement panels at the bottom of the page were just showing a rather dodgy advert pushing: Amazon Work From Home Jobs Best Work From Home Jobs Highest-Rated Mattresses Doctors Note For Work So, are they trying to promote working from home or skiving off from home? Not everyone sees the same adverts, specific to your browsing and/or phone listening history

The government is incompetent but that does not mean we have to be. There is enough information on what we need to do to restrict transmission and be relatively safe - Keep your distance - Wear a face mask when indoors or interacting closely with strangers - Wash your hands regularly - Avoid busy places - ....... The duty of care lies with the individual not the state, we all need to interact with strangers every day from both a social and economic perspective and this can be done relatively safely as long as we respect each other and make the effort. Effort is the weakness as we all know we should exercise regularly but very few of us do as it is tough and being COVID aware at all times is tough but it is what we need to do. Expecting to live your life by government dictat is abdicating responsibility and even more so with this government of imbeciles. With the rest of the post, does it matter if the government are imbeciles?

Shocking that the abdicated King Edward actually planned to conspire with the Nazis to rule Britain under Nazi rule. I mean I know there's a video of Queen Elizabeth doing the salute but still... Mocking the Nazi salute as thousands of kids did at the time. And comedians did until fairly recently. He was ultra right wing wasn't he?

Yes but although I don’t know the Mamet, the other two have small casts, naturally 'distanced! So will accord with the prevailing zeitgeist regardless of whether the actors actually bubble or distance in real life. And quite frankly I think we should tackle one thing at a time. Get the theatres going with what we can use now and then see what talent we have in the writing. The best is the enemy of the good. Another small cast for Oleanna. Saw a version at the Buxton Opera House many years ago. Pinter played the male lead when it first opened in the west end. Always wanted to go back to this play

Remember reading somewhere that there is a 50 year macro economic cycle * and have a feeling we are entering the economics and the subsequent social issues of the 70’s and going further back the 20’s and we all know how these decades ended. Increasing unemployment, increasing social unrest and sadly the polarising of and victimisation of minorities, the only thing missing at the moment is rising inflation but a No Deal Brexit and the subsequent tariffs could give us that. The Conservatives could be in the same position as Labour were in the late 70’s and could become unelectable for a generation. *Edit: Kondratiev waves Behave yourself, we are a nation of conservatives

There is no denying that. But her political career was blighted by her expense scandal and defeat at the hands of her constituents. It is the porn that rather defined her legacy for the few that remember her at all. That may be true but the first female holder of that particular office of state is a major achievement for her

Nicola Adams now confirmed. Caroline Quentin's luxury home show was definitely unwatchable on Channel 4. It was a BBC programme! 🙂 Strangely disappointed the first same sex couple was not all male

I’ve used eat out to help out pretty much every day the scheme was running, although been slightly guilty in visiting a lot of chains, but many more niche places were booked up. Local Bistro/Pub 4 times Local Thai restaurant Wagamama 3 times Bill’s 3 times (they had an amazing menu) GBK Toby Carvery The Real Greek Dishoom (incredible value as there was no £10 limit) Pret (just for tea and cake) Glad to see some places continuing on their own on the typically quieter days too. Wow that's a lot of food?? Does that equate to eating twice on one night?

Whilst I was wishing i had a coat on my nephew, who is going through potty training, took an alfresco wee in the garden, it took me ten minutes to persuade him back into his trousers, he was quite warm enough in pants he said. Potty in the garden or found a nice quiet space in the flowerbed that needed watering?
