Pride the weekend beforehand too! I actually think it will be as normal and totally rammed for both events. Thanks for the warning. Should I feel able to venture down to London in September, I'll make sure to avoid both those weekends. The thought of all those people makes me feel sick. Loads of people in London every week, no? I went to the cricket at the Oval last week. Thought I'd get used to it by the end of the day but I didn't really enjoy the crowds one bit. Just try your best all the way through the day.

Once you take into account the two-week delay before the effects of any change are reflected in the cases, the trend is almost entirely up. Perhaps you should look at the NHS instead of making assertions like that. I've been in intermittent pain for over a year waiting for surgery that might now happen next summer. Last year I was told it would be about six months. It's September. Guess how well that's going.
When I went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago everyone was thoroughly exhausted and demoralised. I had to walk round the place half naked with an octopus of ECG leads dangling from me because the big electrocardiogram had broken down and they couldn't get it working so they had to get me to the small one that had also broken down but could occasionally be coaxed into life. And that was all they had, with no idea when someone would be available even to see what was wrong, let alone get the parts to fix anything.
And even if the NHS is managing to cope now, how long do you think it can carry on? Right now 1 in every 276 people is infected. Surely you can't think it'll stay that way? That's not how diseases work. If we don't get the reproduction rate of this disease below 1 then it'll reach 1 in 200, then 1 in 100, then 1 in 50... How is the NHS going to cope with that?
And no, I'm not exaggerating. That's what a reproduction rate greater than one means. It means the disease is not self-limiting: it can only infect more and more people and it can't slow down until a lack of people to infect slows it down.
I didn't make any proposal. I was just saying how things are. We control this disease or it controls us, whether people stand for it or not. If vaccination doesn't do the job of controlling the spread — and I'm still hopeful that may yet happen if enough young people get their shots — then something else will need to, and for that there are only three options:
1) we reintroduce some restrictions until the cases fall to manageable levels
2) the increasing case rate scares people into imposing restrictions on themselves 3) things get much worse
This one: 4) stamp our feet until we get what we want isn't going to work. It never does.
R Rate isnt over 1. Its between 0.9-1.1. The option 4) is that we reach herd immunity when the unvaxxed get infected and recover, so the cases go down naturally ( like it did earlier this summer). Its a fallacy to say the only way forward is restrictions I think that is my favourite post ever on here

I think for a lot of people, it comes down to 'If not now, then when?'. Putting our lives on hold for two years more or less, social distancing, not hugging friends or family, getting double jabbed as soon as possible only for another lockdown. Is that post contradictory?

Went to supermarket today (don't go often, try to get deliveries). Pleased to report more than 75% mask wearers. Is that normal?

It happens and it’s been remarked upon before but for every person who doesn’t bother to respond to/like a helpful reply there is someone, probably multiple people who do. I think it’s just the nature of the internet, especially since Facebook and Twitter in that some people don’t feel that basic rules of etiquette apply. What I think is more important is that our members remain unfailingly helpful and willing to assist fellow theatregoers whether they get thanked for it or not. So that’s something we can all appreciate and give them kudos for. Thank you

My day today was a CHALLENGE!! Just a morning of all things going wrong, a comedy of errors. So to start off, I woke up late and in a panic, flung my duvet off which had for some reason got my phone on it and it went under my bed so started the day crawling under my bed to retrieve my phone. Then a text from my hairdresser saying she was ill and did I still want my hair doing that night? No thanks. Politely declined as I’m trying to not catch Covid before I go away, so that was my hair cancelled. Got to work and the phones in the office were down but working for people at home so I was sent home at like, 9.15. Got home and realised I’d forgotten my laptop charger in my haste. So in order to avoid having to spend my entire lunch break driving to and fro I had to sweet talk my dad into going to get it for me. He then informed me he’d arranged a roofer in the afternoon to look at the ceiling in my bedroom, thinking I’d be at work. My parents left to get my laptop charger (they are ace) and they’d not been gone long when the roofer turned up early! So I had to send a quick message fo the boss, more downtime, let him in, tell him the problem, try and control the dog, answer the house phone that started ringing….it was like a flippin circus! Then my systems went down and I struggled to get it back and I was soooo close to just shutting my laptop and crawling under my duvet! Anyway, everything got resolved, the afternoon was calmer, I’m at home now for the foreseeable till the phones are fixed, which I hate cos it’s a bit of a mad house living with my parents and trying to work cos it’s their house and they have phone calls and visitors and the dog is always barking or the phone ringing, or my dad asking me for technical help on something while I’m trying to work! Fingers crossed I can get back to the office soon! Hopefully should be next week all being well. Pray for me guys! 😂 What a day!! Well done for getting the phone with all those spiders hiding under the bed

I think the line up this year is one of the most uninspiring they have ever had, I can barely muster any excitement for it and I can't remember feeling this way about it. To be fair though I've still enjoyed the series in the past where I've not thought much to the celebs beforehand in the end, you go on the journey with them and get to know them and root for them. Yeah you'll be fine because you go on a journey with the celebs

The current stage door ban in place at a lot of theatres is to protect the actors from the audience, not the audience from each other, though. Handing over of programmes, pens to sign with, or gifts, or people requesting hugs or unmasked photos all raises the risk of a cast member getting ill. And as we've all seen, that currently brings down an entire show. Stage doors are also unregulated from a covid check perspective. Audience members seeing the show might have tested negative to get in, but anyone can go to stage door without proving a thing. I don't doubt it'll be back, but for now it's really not wise. Stage door ban must be to protect everyone?? In my mind I am still thinking it was a decision with everyone's safety in mind

I'm having problems with my roof so I've been gathering quotes. I have three quotes and two are quite expensive but a third is cheaper, but so much cheaper that I wonder how good a job they could do for only half as much money. Decisions... I hate that, wondering if the expensive ones are just ripping you off or the cheap one is too good to be true. Good luck. Having a recommendation and seeing work means much more. Sorry can't recommend a roofer

Don't we say that every year, every Big Brother, Jungle show etc I don't as Strictly is the only reality show I watch! Greg Wise is a decent signing though, at last! Bake Off only reality show I watch so no 'celebrities' just yet. But I still say it

They don't really pretend it's live anymore, everyone knows it isn't. Scraping the barrel does seem the appropriate description for the calibre of "celebrity" this year - not sure I would use that word to describe even half of them... Don't we say that every year, every Big Brother, Jungle show etc

I think its been widely accepted that the 2012 Paralympics was the most successful ever and doubt it will ever be repeated. Part of it was down to the fact that the main Olympics sold out so people bought Paralympics tickets to be able to experience the Olympics. The venues were packed every day which has never happened before and many of the Olympians became household names. We really embraced it and created a great atmosphere. As well as working on the Olympics for several years I also went to several events at both Olympics and Paralympics and can honestly day that I actually preferred the whole Paralympic experience which had the most amazing atmosphere. Tokyo would have been really good with supporters. Paris will be a great spectacle also, signing up for ticket notifications for Paris

I’ve watched her event 3 times today and I’d say the massive crash that her was not her fault in the first race probably had more to do with it than anything that happened the other day. There’s not a lot you can do when the person directly in front of you goes down and takes you out. Totally. You don't get to where Laura is without being someone who keeps on fighting, no matter how tough things are, or because you've already achieved success. It's a turn of phrase. Apparently Kenny told her that he was ready to go home, but he still went and won gold against many expectations! Other people in the team comment on her ability to laugh and joke between events, then switch it on when it happens. I think it's safe to say that she was very focused on winning in the Madison, and was pleased the hard work paid off and wasn't ruined by being caught up in a crash. The crash was definitely not her fault, and while everyone involved was OK, it will be a bit disorientating. It sounds as if the gap between events in the omnium was pretty short too, so tired legs was bound to play a role. I have to say I'm amazed how philosophical the cyclists are about being taken out of a race because of a crash that wasn't their fault. Presumably it happens often enough that they feel it evens out in the end. A bit like a lucky net chord in tennis, but it must be gutting when it's your once every four year chance of an Olympic medal. This Although Jason's unexpected win gave me an opportunity to sing one last version of Streets of Kenny by Shack

I loved Alistair Sim and was lucky enough to see him twice.Once in THE MAGISTRATE (1969) with Patricia Routledge and as Captain Hook at the "Old" Scala Theatre with Julia Lockwood (1962).I don't remember much about that Peter Pan - I was only 8 at the time - but funnily enough remember the theatre. Scala theatre? Where was that?

Going to be some interesting discussion around funding. Rowing currently gets £27.4m, BMX gets £1.50.
Will be some smashing skateboard and BMX parks around the country

Diving Final! Heart is in my mouth here. Tom Daley in first position and we are halfway there. Edit: Bronze for Tom! Great achievement, those Chinese divers really stepped up for those final three dives. Really good final, those Chinese divers were sensational

Amazing moment on BBC Sport. Laura Muir running 1500m final and on TMS Michael Holding speaking with Aggers at lunch about his life and black lives matter. Holding spoke so well and so eloquently. Had to watch/listen to both at the same time. Both worth catching up folks. Great broadcasting

I hope Kate French ends up the breakout star, modern pentathlon is a bonkers competition and I’m in total awe of the diversity of the events they have to master to win. Talking of pentathlete's, I went down a youtube rabbit hole the other day. Ended up watching Superstars from late 70's early 80's. Danny Nightingale and Jim Fox in the past masters both acquitting themselves well. But an epic battle between Brian Jacks and Daley Thompson in 1981. Thompson couldn't get near him. Battles in canoeing, cycling, gym won by Jacks. Thompson won a great weightlifting and was pretty decent at basketball. Really surprised me the difference. Thompson did mid forties for the dips to Jacks mid eighties.

Adam Peaty for me as the superstar. A beast of a competitor, redefined his event, still about a second quicker than anyone else, not beaten for six years. One of the countries greatest ever sportsman. Tough crowd here if we are still looking for a superstar There's a difference between a sporting superstar because of your achievements and the sort of thing i'm talking about. I remember when half the nation probably stayed up till 3am to watch Rebecca Adlington win her gold in Beijing and she had thousands of people out out on the street for a homecoming parade in her town being broadcast live on the TV because the nation fell in love with her so much. Same with Mo Farah when everybody was gathered round the TV to watch him win Gold in London, same with Jess on the same night. Adam Peaty is AMAZING and swimming really is my fave sport so I totally agree he should be a superstar but he isn't really is he? He's a superstar in swimming and of course seen as incredible sportsman but for whatever reason I don't think that translates to being a superstar with the public or being a nations sweetheart during/from this games. Down to lots of things. Schedule, tv rights, changes in tv watching habits. Personal. I didn't stay up for Adlington, I didn't watch Bolt, Ennis, Farah and Rutherford. (At the theatre, Midsummers Night Dream at Regents Park and a very dry Timon of Athens with SRB). Watched Peaty though

This Olympics for me is missing that big new GB star and household name coming through. Sky Brown? Not only is she remarkable (for any age, not just her young age) but she's got a great attitude. Hugging and congratulating her competition, being able to get out of her head to succeed on her final run. She's got the right attitude, as far as I'm concerned, because it's about being YOUR very best, which isn't necessarily the same as being THE very best. And being 'the best' can (should?) encompass more than winning... winning and losing with grace, giving it your best effort... that's the Olympic ideal. Adam Peaty for me as the superstar. A beast of a competitor, redefined his event, still about a second quicker than anyone else, not beaten for six years. One of the countries greatest ever sportsman. Should have three Olympics. Let's add the Juiced-up Olympics to Olympics and para Olympics.
100m men in eight seconds, weight lifters lifting extraordinary weights, swimmers faster than sharks and AK47's used in the shooting. Something there for everyone. Although my personal favourite may be the equestrian and horses taking ecstasy before dancing.
