Lije n1david I decided to travel to Scotland to see J4 but I'm seeing it in Aberdeen on 29 October. I'd already booked to see "companion piece" Mary on 3 November so I'm actually seeing them in chronological order.
I will definitely see the final 2 plays if I can but, from a financial point of view, I'd like to see them south of the border.

"Flops" I liked: Carrie with the wonderful Barbara Cook Metropolis with Judy Kuhn (who hated it!) Children of Eden (but not with Roger Moore who dropped out before it opened) Matador with Stephanie Powers Poppy (RSC production about the Opium Wars) Jeanne (with Siobhan McCarthy as Joan of Arc) Budgie with Adam Faith and Anita Dobson...In One of My Weaker Moments... "Flops" I didn't like: Tess of the D'Urbervilles La Cava at the Victoria Palace Ipi-Tombi (I think this was quite successful in London but I didn't get it) Ziegfeld with George Hearn Cyrano - how did this Dutch-sourced show make it to the Neil Simon on Broadway? The Far Pavilions (of which, thankfully, I remember nothing) Mutiny! with David Essex and Sinitta (the on-stage ship broke down twice!) Kings and Clowns by Leslie Bricusse about the 6 wives of Henry VIII (Six, on the other hand nails this story). Roger Moore - I thought he was supposed to do Aspects of Love? Yes, of course, you're right. My bad.

It was a revival of Aspects of Love. It may still happen of course. Actually, mrbarnaby, you didn't say what it IS and that AOL is what is definitely happening.

Sunset Boulevard and Elaine Paige? (I doubt Patti Lupone would do it again!)

I saw this show twice and loved it. I just listened again to The Journey Home and wept.

I'm also old enough to have seen many of the shows mentioned.
I saw Bombay Dreams twice: at the first showing a young 13-14 yo Daniel Radcliffe was seated on my row.
I, like many others here, would have liked to see Billy, not least because Michael Crawford and Elaine Paige were both in it!
Stop the World - I Want to Get Off is another because of Anthony Newley, but I did see Anne Quayle (who also starredt) later in The Boyfriend.

Thanks for your information samuelwhiskers: have just been sent an email, too. Booked! For those in the know, as you can't choose seats, is it a free-for-all on the day? Thanks.

Sept next year, alas, not this year. (The original article did suggest this year.) Tickets on sale from tomorrow. Apologies, but I can't see it on sale on the website. Is is just priority booking? There's no mention of it at all that I can see.

All this is good advice.
All I would add is: don't talk during the show, nor use your mobile phone (switch it off!)
Im 60+ and have seen many shows since 1974 (long before mobile phones!). I've even seen Frozen on my own. Never had a problem with being a lone older man at a child-populated performance.
Now that you've retired, get out there and, as Phantom of London says, enjoy yourself!

Did anyone notice the photo in the programme of a very young Lea playing Annie?
Sooooooo cute!

Haworth Parsonage guide:
As I say, Charlotte died in this room - those are her slippers. And I like to imagine her in this room, with her slippers on, dying.
And
Snacks and light refreshments are available in the Heathcliff Nosher Bar, so please feel free to sample our very popular Bronteburgers. Or for the fibre-conscious - our Branwell Bronteburgers.

I've just spent £16.52 on a glass of water and a salad sandwich that took me 20 minutes to open because it was double shrink wrapped to avoid tampering. When I did get it open it was so boring I took it back to the counter and asked if some-one could tamper with it.

I like a glass of wine in the interval that I then take into the second Act.
But I would never dream of eating in a theatre. Not even ice-cream; the endless scraping of an almost empty tub to obtain the very last morsel has led to complaints from me in the past!
Last night at The 47th the man next to me tried to - I think - create more space for me by angling his body. So I either got his knee and elbow in my space or his rear squeezing against mine. Just sit straight on!!

I asked when I attended Maria Friedman last week what was coming up next. They said they would be closing for refurbishment and nothing was scheduled yet. Didn't say how long refurbishment would take and I didn't think to ask. That's odd. Haven't they had sufficient time during lock-downs to refurb??!!

After holding on to my money for 2 years I finally requested a refund a month ago. ATG refunded me quickly and no questions asked.
I probably will book to see it when it's announced but I'm not hopeful it'll be anytime soon.

Baz said it would transfer to the WE when the Bath news was released. I wonder if it will though. with the exception of the recent Company Sondheim does not do well in the West End. plus the current climate and I suspect the producers lost a stack on the RFH light in the piazza Light in the Piazza isn't Sondheim. A similar show Do I Hear A Waltz? is.

I saw this last night and it was truly magnificent. Ticket Ofers or not, the auditorium was full, which was great to see. And a standing ovation, most appropriate.
Alfie singing Franklin Shepard Inc was superb and well deserved his casting.
While everyone was great, I was surprised at how many times I'd experienced Matthew White's work as a performer and Director.
Go if you can.

The original production was, of course, at the Royal Court with Martin Freeman, Lucian Msamati and Sophie Thompson.
It was so brilliant I've booked to see it again at the Park.
I was in Chicage in 2019 and even visited Clybourne Street and the small Clybourne Park.

One hoped the Chicken ranch would have come back in all it's glory. I know you mean at the end of the show, but it did come back eventually in the musical sequel: The Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public. I've seen a few small pub theatre versions in the UK but my first viewing was at the Festival Theatre in Adelaide, Australia in 1981 with Lorraine Bayly of The Sullivans as Miss Mona. Sublime!

I also had aa problem logging in late last year. An e-mail to ATG went unanswered.
I wrote again earlier this year, and after some to-ing and fro-ing (resetting my password, then someone else unasked re-resetting it, then someone re-re-resetting it) my account does work.
Bur when I've done some window-shopping I've not seen any Members reduced tickets, so I haven't booked.
But at least I get my money back on the membership by the discount I get at their bars - over £12 on one visit to the Piccadilly bar. Hic!

I saw "Steve" at the newly opened Seven Dials Playhouse yesterday afternoon. The Opening set is the theatrical restaurant Joe Allen's and to set up the atmosphere, there's a bar on stage that the audience can use. The show opens with a barman explaining the theatre rules and jokily points at a member of the audience to say (words to the effect of) "..and that includes texting madam. It not only distracts the actors but also audience members. Better still, just switch your phone off." At the time he said this we weren't sure if he was a barman or an actor in the show... A great humorous way to remind audiences what's permissible and to try to counteract bad behaviour. Apologies, this was meant to be an edit.

Hmmm looking for a correlation... There's been discernible rise of incidents of disruptive behaviour in theatre audiences in the last few years. There's also been a lot of new Jukebox shows popping up over the last few years. Rarely if ever does a Pinter get a show-stop due to bad behaviour. Maybe. Perhaps there's a relationship here. Music fans (sorry to tarnish all with the same brush) who don't go to the theatre often, usually go to gigs where getting tanked up is the norm/encouraged. Suddenly there's a show popped up full of songs by an artist they love. They go. Few beers before hand, drinks at the bar, take seats with drinks expecting to be able to do what they do at a gig. I totally agree with you re juke-box musicals; my partner and I were discussing this very topic a few days ago. This is arguably why the problem mostly seems to occur at current juke-box musicals, but is also creeping into traditional musicals, too. Return to the Forbidden Planet (wonderful though it was) seems to me to have been the first juke-box musical and may have much to answer for!!! We would love to see The Tina Turner Musical but haven't so far because of bad behaviour. Also the rise and rise of tech has some part to play. Firstly because people think they can film, record, take photos/selfies at shows and never mind the light disruption to others. And imho secondly because the constant use of tech can lead to people being disconnected with other real life people, particularly strangers. So they have little idea of the effect their behaviour is having on others. How many times have I witnessed people watching videos and listening to phone calls/messages in contained public places (buses, tubes, cafes, pubs etc) with the speaker turned on. It's the latter day equivalent of listening to tinny leakage from older earphones. End of rant!! So, what's the solution? Certainly, theatres need to do something as has happened at the Drifters' Girl theatre and the Lyric, Belfast during the run of Into the Woods. But extra security/support costs money. Announcements before may help (I think the best are when they get the star of the show or a famous voice associated with the theatre to record it, or when it's humorous - or both). Maybe a "Please Note:" note on tickets. Any other suggestions? Let's try to help theatre producers/owners.

The 2 for 1 offer I received didn't work for me, so didn't buy tix.
Wonder if there's something wrong with the website or because I'm already an OV Local member.

I was lucky enough to see the original Broadway production, then a major version in German in Vienna, the Marti Pellow tour, then a small-scale version at the Union.
it has some amazing songs.
Do we need a new version? Why not? If the creators are happy for it to be tinkered with, who am I to stick my nose in the air? I'll still go to see it for those amazing songs.

I always buy the playtext at the Royal Court because they're so cheap. Then if I want to treat it as an ephemeral programme, I can throw it away (relax, fellow serious theatre-goers, I never have yet!)
This one was £3. Actually, if you're a RC member and bought the playtext at the Samual French bookstall, you got it for £2.70, as I did.. A 10% reduction on all purchases at the SF bookstall with RC membership: bargain!
