My understanding is that it happens more often than you'd think, particularly in shows with lots of fast dancing making it impossible to sing clearly for very long.

They were the toast of theatreland at one point and then seemed to pack it in! They are still blamed/credited in some quarters for the closure of Love Never Dies/Paint Never Dries.
Any whingers amongst us?

Wasn't there an incident of this shady nature on the old board which ended up in the press?

Went on Sunday and overall I enjoyed it. Some drama in the box office area with young girls upset after finding out that Dove Cameron was not performing. Then before the show started, the producer came on stage to announce the Cameron was suffering from mccutcheonitis or something, and she wouldn't be performing. He was clearly fed up and didn't even try to hide it. He then said that Molly Lynch would be on instead. She was okish considering the circumstances but clearly underrehearsed. The show itself is very good and the orchestra sounded glorious. Renee Fleming was on top form and sang wonderfully. The rest of the cast were no more than adequate. Some of the Italian accents were atrocious, a tad OTT and ridiculous at times. The set is a bit basic, but I guess they wanted something uncomplicated for just 20 performances. I would give it 3.5 stars. Really glad the show came to London even if this production is nowhere near as good as the Broadway one with Victoria Clark. Great view from the front row with plenty of leg room. Glad I got the tickets with the TodayTix offer. Quite a few empty seats and lots of people bragging about getting their tickets for free thanks to papering sites. This sounds like a perfect storm! Those people will be in the bad books... First rule of papering sites, never talk about papering sites!

Where do the 'stars' stay on this cruise? Do they get some kind of area away from the fans to hang out? It's my understanding on a regular cruise ship it's fairly easy to get to all parts of the ship except the crew areas which I imagine aren't very glamorous.

Carl Woodward is a notorious bullsh*tter (I was told he was even called out specifically at a recent SOLT meeting as someone PR depts should avoid) but the show is happening - either he stumbled on the page somehow in advance of an announcement or someone in the know tipped him off.

An interesting thing I noticed about the scene in the first episode which includes very up to date radio news reports. I was watching with subtitles on and they were different... The stories were more generic so the edit to real news must have been very last minute.

I think it's sadly unlikely to come back. It was popular here but didn't have the vibe of a 'smash hit', and had little advertising so won't be widely recognised. It also received not even a single Olivier nomination which I think is a travesty. The entire run was sold out, that doesn't make it a smash hit? What would the need of advertising be if there wasn't any need to sell tickets? 🙄 Yes, I meant more that although it was sold out, it didn't seem to ever get the buzz that it was an unmissable show. Everyone I spoke to about it was fairly indifferent about seeing it. And I understand they didn't advertise it much because it sold so well but that's my point... It didn't get much advertising exposure the last time so it would take a lot of work to build up recognition of it a second time round. No need for the snarky face.

Amazing episode. Here's an interesting excerpt from "The Writer's Tale" from 2009 (RTD's book about writing Doctor Who) where he talks about the idea he's had for 20 years (so for 30 years now!) which has now come to fruition in this ... Can totally see how this "ordinary people like you and me, not just watching it but part of it" leads to the ending of this weeks episode. So with spoilers in mind, how did the Torchwood show end?

Because the original version is still available so they had to differentiate between the two. But there are generally loads of updated shows that end up with titles like 'Half a Sixpence (2018 edition)'. Wonder if there's some kind of rights issue around the title.

Cabaret, at the Donmar starring Alan Cumming and Jane Horrocks. They production sort of defined modern approaches to this show. I saw the later Broadway revival/reworking of it, also starring Alan Cumming, but to have seen that chilling ending in that tiny space...
There is also a very grainy, oddly edited ITV recording of it however.

Enjoyed this very much, very clever indeed. We can be fairly sure it won't be attempted by any amdram groups any time soon.

The only thing good about this production is that it marks the end of Josie Rourke's time at the Donmar. It's fitting that she goes out with something so misguided, miscast and miserable. Now they just have to fumigate the place to get the stench out. Charity has three things going for it: a great score, a funny and heart-breaking book and an opportunity for a choreographer to show what they can do . Thanks to Miss Duff's horrible ( though weirdly confident) singing voice, the score is destroyed. Thanks to Ms Rourke having no sense of what comic timing is ( except of course in the bullet-proof elevator scene and Mr Darvill's considerable skills) the book simply drones on and on. The laughs were few and far between. And while no choreographer is going to be better than Bob Fosse on this show , Mr MacGregor came up with NOTHING. A horrible production. ( and when you can't make Rhythm of Life a show stopper you're in big trouble) . Grrrrrr. What do you really think though
