Just wow...took my mother to the matinee today (afternoon off) and it flawed even more than last week!!
Let's just say I had tears from Act 1...wow what a full matinee (this being a extra one they put in for the last week) really surprising mixed audience and close to full - standing ovation immediately at the end...if ever I have wanted to see a show transfer with this cast then this is the one...it's a stunning piece, wonderfully staged, beautiful score and the cast all work their socks and hearts off playing multiple roles....I would adore a cast recording with this talented cast!!
Oh at the end I was practallty stage door(ing) by error whilst waiting for mother to come back from the loo, I was standing by the door they all need to come out of!! When we come up there was a big crowd all waiting for Niall...was quite a mid-week stagey lot in at the performance...if I wasn't in Devon this weekend I would try be there for closing night!!
Sail on

Saw this last night..it certainly has flaws and lacks memorable songs but it does have a R&H charm and was quite risqué in places!!
Nice cast (two lovely cast members who you see more than you would expect in type of period piece).
It reminded me of 'Carousel' in tone but it just lacks the memorable songs and songs that most other R&H had (although I can't hum a single note of 'State Fair'). I'm surprised they never went ahead and turned this into a movie anyhow even though a big stage flop.
It's not going to be a memorable piece of this year but I had a nice enough time and was good to see a forgotten musical play out!

I enjoyed this the other week, it's not perfect but was enjoyable and whilst these songs weren't familiar to be they really told its story.
It's not as good as 'Sunny Afternoon' but comparable - I loved the emotional ending to this - really packed a punch and had unexpected tears rolling down my face before it giving it some welly at curtain call!!

I really am enjoying the cast recording, it's a score that is stronger on stage and the music is less so away from it but all the cast sound great especially Sheridan and Darius!
Listened twice on my walk along the Thames just now!!

I had tears streaming down my face throughout Act 2 - the last time that happened was the live cinema recording of 'Billy Elliot'!

Tim tweeted me back (can't add screen shot) but said that a cast album will happen but may take some time, so you all may be right and they want to the original Broadway cast.

That was absolutely beautiful, just stunning.
I loved it's such an ensemble piece, with a simple set but so effective.
I'm in awe, I have seen so many shows I feel flawed, what a beautiful score and I had tears rolling down my face pretty much all through Act 2!!!
Oh and the theatre was very close to full, word is out!! We were row E 1,2,3 and was perfect seating!!!
Wow, why can't this go to The Phoneix!!!

Went to this last night, I enjoyed this far more than my companion Warren. I think overall he found it just dragged and he didn't like the character of 'Holly' in the slightest - I always take it that at times you love her and you then you loathe her!
I was surprised how much I enjoyed Pixie's take on 'Holly' - it was impressive for a stage debut I thought!
It's very much closer to the novella in it's darkness, I liked this element but I did pine for some of the Hollywood sprinkle of the movie because this play does drag in places.
The set and design is excellent, it's a simple set but it looks good and draws you into their world (mainly the apartment block). I enjoyed the 3 music moments (Pixie showcasing a great voice) that it left me wondering if a musical version should ever be explored, I think with a strong score could work.
Is it a must see, it's not but worth a look if you come across it!

I don't 'get' Book of Mormon either...admittedly basing that one recording/clips of it, but while a few songs are catchy/entertaining I don't LOVE it or quite find it as hilarious as I feel I'm supposed to. I felt the same, I'm glad I won it via online lottery and can say I have seen it (as it's so 'must see' and the ridiculous ticket prices and demand) but I too only found it slightly amusing, a few good songs here and there but I wasn't wowed by it and have no plans to ever visit it again, there is so much better things to see!! Of course saying this, the friend I took said it was the best show he has ever seen!!

I am all booked with my friend Matt (a big fan of the show too, we recently traveled to Wolverhampton to see a production of the show) for the final performance at Hornchurch, have only been to this theater once but I live near Bow so it's an easy journey and venture out to zone 6!!

I'm there on thursday. Praying we don't melt into the seats! Are they selling proper programmes for this yet? My friend got the programme, are these always in this format at the Old Vic? They don't have cast photos next to their bio's which I didn't like personally.

I felt for the cast of 'Groundhog Day' in Sat night...there's Warren and I in shorts and short sleeve shirts with all the cast having to wear winter outfits on the stage and pretend their was freezing!!!

I was at the show last night and came out feeling a little disappointed.
I had seen this at the Adelphi towards the end of its run with Alexandra Burke and had really enjoyed it, it’s not the greatest show but it had creative moments (the stalker) and love Whitney Houston numbers but boy does this get a little lost at the Dominion theater.
The tour set they are using just looks cheap and just can’t cover the stage so it looks so sparse, I was disappointed with all the changes to ‘The Stalker’ in the original run he had a freaky presence throughout but he barely registered in Act 1, it really lacked the sense of peril in the new version. The cabin scene I remember being such more effective in the original run, here the stalker just enters stage left and once again it just loses all the tension
Also I got confused with the reorder of songs, was ‘Queen of the Night’ always at the beginning?
Rachel John shone though throughout whilst it felt more like Beverley was just going through the motions and I wasn’t convinced with her performance (she didn’t compare to me with Alexandra Burke). Ben Richards does fine here (he’s handsome too!!).
I look forward to ‘The Bodyguard’ coming onto the amateur scene in a few years’ time, it felt lost in such a big theater that I could imagine it playing better in a smaller space like Brideswell.
This version is not a patch on the original run, I still enjoyed the night but I couldn’t help but compare it to what I had seen in 2014. Did I have a little dance at the end – yes of course I did!!
