Helen was scheduled off tonight, Lucie yesterday matinee according to the official site. It's always that time of year at Wicked. The opening pages of this thread have similar discussions about Emma Hatton's attendance. It is not unusual for Elphaba's to miss shows.

A really enjoyable listen.

Excellent work for a first post jay987! I too wonder why the very patchy attendance of Amy is mostly ignored, especially seeing those numbers. It makes very little sense to me that she is staying on as standby, I can only also assume that Laura will be doing the tour. Certainly when you have a lead struggling to do the role full time it would seem to me that you need a rock solid, reliable standby for the part. They do have a solid cover in Laura but she isn't supposed to be carrying it this way. I won't speculate on why Lucie is doing so few shows but I do think it's a shame for both her (after she so badly wanted this role and such a big thing was made of her finally landing it) and people who book hoping to see her. When she IS on she's very good! Amy is the interesting point. I have no idea whether Lucie's missed shows coincide with any holiday Amy has had, but if Laura had not been such a reliable and talented performer they could have found themselves in serious trouble.

I’ve been back to Cabaret at each cast change and while Callum is excellent and almost as captivating as Eddie was, I think Madeline is the weakest Sally so far. That’s not to say she’s not talented - she clearly is - but she is also clearly less experienced on stage than the other Sallys. With a few more years’ experience under her belt I reckon she’d be brilliant, but I feel that at the moment she doesn’t exude that confidence and magnetism that the other Sallys have had. As a side note: Emily Benjamin, the alternate Sally, is exceptional, and anyone on the fence about whether to book a performance where Madeline is off shoud just take the jump. You won’t be disappointed! I have not seen Madeline but booked one of Emily's shows especially, having seen her previously when Jessie was on. Well off... I love that she now has scheduled dates. She really is wonderful I agree.

I'm assuming Deadline are just printing casting as and when they find out about it? It seems the only person not announced is Dr. Dillamond. I wonder if they have changed the role for the film version, because the actor/role is way, way, way down the call sheet at number 308. There is to be a Dr Dillamond in the film but casting won't be announced for a while yet. They have done three days filming so far so there does seem to be some progress. I confess, I never thought this film would actually happen.

Cannot believe I had to trail to page 7 of the forum to find this thread. I haven't seen the London production recently so cannot comment, however, I have seen the tour so CAN comment on that I saw it in Sunderland and loved it so much I ended up seeing it 4 times. I thought the cast were outstanding one and all. I saw the pairing of Will Barratt as JVJ and Jordan Simon Pollard as Javert for three of the shows and they were absolutely brilliant. No way would anyone in that audience have guessed they weren't the leads. So good. Another standout for me was Siobahn O'Driscoll as (Scouse) Eponine. Wow. She can sing. Absolutely flawless performance! What a talent. Lauren Drew as Fantine also absolutely magnificent. In fact, I thought the entire cast were brilliant and the production was so fresh, definitely Samuel Wyn-Morris as Enjolras was another standout, but all so good and saw so many understudies/covers/swings over the four shows. Not a weak link in any of them. Really cannot recommend this tour enough. I booked again to see it in Leeds earlier in the week. Extra tickets labelled as "restricted view" for stalls row a and b went on sale for £25. Leeds theatre were very quick to market these as you may not see but you will hear, which will have put many off, but we took a risk and booked row b. Yes a very high stage but only missed around 5% of the action if that and what an absolute joy to be so close. I can't imagine ever being able to afford a similar view in London. Dean Chisnall was back for Leeds and I had forgotten how incredible he is and alongside Nic Greenshields they make a formidable team. Absolutely outstanding. Dean Reid was on as Thernardier and Harry Chandler as Enjolras and I thought they were both fantastic. Seeing the show five times in recent weeks with different understudies and swings on each time was a bit of a joy for a theatre geek like me. To see how people effortlessly swap roles night after night is so interesting to me. Will and Jordan were back to their usual roles in Leeds and great to see their versatility. Will the Bishop and Jordan the Factory Foreman among others. Honestly cannot praise this cast highly enough. Cardiff sadly the last leg of the tour but they really are doing the show proud.

I went along to see the matinee in Sunderland on Saturday and really enjoyed it, especially Lorna.
The casting team really took "white christmas" literally though didn't they... I really don't think it is ok to have such an undiverse cast. We are in 2022 for goodness sake!

I think they’re supposed to just be a bit of fun for the younger audience members to be honest. (When I say young I mean like under 10s!) Aren’t they apart of the “Wizomania” show? I’ve never been particularly confused by them Exactly this. They have to watch something when they watch the Wizomania show. Why not this. I like them

Just a few simple tweaks could make it fresher.
For example, the lion cub scene when Elphaba "gets mad" really is just the students going "aaahhhh". A few special effects thrown into that would not take much but would give it a bit more oomph.

I can't imagine Kerry would want to do it. She has school aged boys.
I think we will see someone new.

I am a big fan of Nikki but there is a HUGE difference from being a standby and being on now and again to going on eight times a week. She had to drop out from London and has not been on stage regularly since then. It would be a huge ask of her to do this.

Someone has just posted on the MTAS Facebook page "Wow!!! Just got back from watching Wicked for the 4th time and the 2 ladies who played Elphaba & Glinda were the best I’ve seen!! I feel so honoured to have watched Laura and Samantha absolutely own the roles and how they are understudies just blows my mind". Great to see so many different opinions. It would be so boring if we all thought the same

I wonder if there were concerns about stamina earlier when she was auditioning but not getting the part. I agree it would have been much more satisfactory for everybody to give her a day off, or the matinees, and publish it so that everyone knew the situation. I don't think she performed the matinées at Legally Blonde. It is madness Elphaba is expected to do 8 shows a week.

Show stop at Les Mis tour tonight just as the students come on. Announcement "stay in your seats we will be restarting in a moment" cue half of the stalls getting up and going to the bar/loo.

Are Dvds that much of a thing these days? I can't talk though. I don't have one of these posh tellys and when it was on TV over Christmas I actually recorded it. On a proper tape!

PR always comes into it. Why did they bring back Rachel and Kerry, why did they make Louise the first Elphaba who had also been Glinda. Shows need publicity, more so now.
I just think it is sad that in 2022 people of colour are cast and people still think it must be for reasons other than their own talent. It shows how far we still have got to go and that depresses me.
Definitely there are still huge barriers for many people of many other races other than black and white and those with disabilities even more so. We still have not had a disabled Nessa as far as I am aware which doesn't sit well with me, and only recently Wicked Broadway had their first trans actress.

As with the majority of fairer/‘representative of our actual world’ casting post ‘me too’ & BLM, it feels like they have done it for the column inches rather than giving it to ‘the best person that auditioned’. We know that RR doesn’t ‘do it’ for the majority of board members, and it seems baffling that Khadime would be brought back despite also not setting the ‘Wickedverse’ alight with her Elphaba all those years ago. I’d rather they refreshed the show than try and exploit new cast members for free PR. I find this post very problematic. When someone of colour gets cast in a lead role some people say they must have only got this role because of their colour. But anyone who knows Wicked would know that a black lady being cast as Glinda is huge news as there has never been a Glinda in the UK who was not white to my knowledge. 16 years of casts. Say four Glinda covers in each cast and then several touring casts. That is a lot of Glindas. You are telling me that in 16 years there was never anyone available who was not white who had the talent to play that role? Nonsense. Yet finally... FINALLY... Wicked find a performer who they do think can play that role and rather than cheering this from the rooftops you say "well it's just because she is black". Nonsense. If ever there was a character where the door was closed to you if you were non white then it was Glinda. To smash that door open takes a lot. A LOT. If anyone white is cast nobody says it's because of their colour when it is more likely to be a factor in their favour than to non white people, as far as traditional casting goes. The tide is only changing now. Very slowly. Who says the new leads were not the best people who auditioned? Nobody would ever say the same about a white person who was cast unless it was stunt casting. More barriers... more bias... unconscious or otherwise. I saw Alexia play Elphaba many many times and she was pretty wonderful to be honest, and has been in everything I have seen her since. Let's not rewrite history here... she certainly has the talent for the role.

Just popped back to say I am so happy Alexia is back and looking forward to seeing the new Glinda too.
While Lucie is obviously amazing, this role is really brutal! Why Wicked will not have an alternate show once a week I do not know. PROTECT YOUR PERFORMERS. It makes no sense to me.
Great that the other Elphie's get their chance to shine too but it does make me even more sad that Jennifer Tierney and Amy Goodwin did not get to go green even once.

Jon M. Chu was in the audience at today's performance in London. Must be gearing up for rehearsals for the movie. It was thought they started several weeks ago as people were hoping Ariana would join Gaga onstage at her recent London concerts. Not to be.
