Yeah pointoine I can't say I appreaciate your tone, and while it is a big step forward to have a date announced, musical film productions have gotten alot further and got cancelled- it's not beyond belief.

People hate the big guy- the machine musical to get the award Then why did Hamilton win so many awards Not the same bog guy (in Wicked's case it seemed like a Disney robo-show) Why Ham won so many is a different question though, not for me to answer cause I don't think it deserved all the awards it got.

The score or the show Michael? I was referring to the scores, but now that you ask: both actually. I really like Wicked, but I like Avenue Q even more. I haven't listened to avenue q in a while, and Wicked very recently, so I dont feel very qulified to say, but as a whole score I can't remmeber much of Q.

I still think it's a travesty he hasnt won that Tony for Wicked- it was the strongest score that year. I like both, but if I had to choose one, I'd vote for Avenue Q. The score or the show Michael?

I still think it's a travesty he hasnt won that Tony for Wicked- it was the strongest score that year. Definitely! People are saying Avenue Q only won the award because they needed it to stay open. I'm sorry, but I thought the whole point of giving out awards was to honor the best.
There's still hope for Stephen winning a Tony. If the Hunchback of Notre Dame opens on Broadway in a year without a new Lin-Manuel Miranda show, they just might win best score. Avenue Q won that (and best musical) because a. People hate the big guy- the machine musical to get the award b. Avenue Q was campaigning for those awards like nobodies buisness- there are great articles on what they pulled during that tear, inc. Promising to launch a tour (to reel the out-of-town votes) that never happened. Im sure some people preffered Avenue Q, but I have no doubt them campaigning worked big time.

Universal, and other studios, do have a tendencay to announce WAYYY in advance for big titles- lok at the marvel films, the Disney live action films, most films based on comics that have big names. I still don't think this is a sure thing. Stuff gets announced and cancelled all the time, and while Wicked is a big seller as a stage poduction, musicals don't really do all that well on screen, critically or financialy (there are exceptions of course, but generally speaking here) I'd love to see it happening though- but I'm not goving it too much thought right now. I bet when they start casting (well into next year probably) I'll be alittle more invested in it. Some of the most recent movie musicals were pretty successful. Les Mis was a financial success and won several awards. And I think there's no way that a Wicked movie is not happening. Now that they've officially announced that they're doing it and are actually in development, I can't see any reason for them not to go through with it now. It has a huge following in the theatre world and it's a story that could draw big mainstream crowds as well. With the right casting (Talent over fame for the 2 leads and star names in the supporting roles, such as Kevin Spacey as The Wizard for example) and the right advertising, it should be a successful movie if done right. Okay but before Les Mis(which you called upthread a piece of garbage so Im not sure I understand your stance) the last succesful ones were Chicago and Dreamgirls.. And I can't think of any others in recent times but perhaps Im mistaken)- those arent good odds. Phantom had a massive following, Andrew was spilling the money into that film- and THAT was a sh*t film in every way (execpt maybe some costumes, which didnt hold a candle to the original, and that 100 piece orchestra) These type of projects require smart, passionate producing. And sometimes they just fall through

I don't agree with alot if the direction choices, but it wasnt a bad film (maybe a poor adaptation but not a bad film in itself, in my opinion)

If they did release Natalie A from her contract, and knew Laura had a schedueled vacation coming up- then having 2 Elphabas in the company is just stupid of the producers, even if just for a week. It was bound to happen (Murphy's laws yo)

there is defenite wear on Rachel voice too- not in a very damaging way, but it definetly sounds a bit more hoarse, at least to me.
That said- she has definetly kept good voice over the years. Same goes for Christine Dwyer who's been with the show for a while, Willemijn, Eden Espinosa, Carmen Cusack... I don't if it's strong vocal chords or good technique or both- but they managed to come out of long runs in Wicked with their voice in place.
That said- it is a taxing role, and i don't understand why the s/b doesn't get at least one schedualed show a week- it would save everyone a big headache in the long run.

Idina's voice was different for YEARS after she finished Wicked (and in the role too- starting a few months in)
I think she has a more solid technique now (in If/Then) but it is different for sure...

It also means it's no longer clear that in some cases they are charging more than you'd pay by walking up to the theatre's box office! I'd just like to add that i think your avatar compliments that comment quite well ha!

Why do you think Sofia would be coming back? Genuinly curious- has he hinted? She was with the show for SO long (and I found her quite boring but that's beside the point)

I can't say I know for sure, but I would think the individual actors would practice at least their solo bits on their own before that half hour rehearsal- and those weren't the best either :/

That's a real shame. Part of what makes for an interesting community is different personalities- even if not everyone agrees with them. I can't seem to recall anything offensive that was said.
I hope he remains enthusiastic about theatre.

It makes every bit of sense for the actors leave- yes they have been with this show in these roles for a while. Though usuallly Tony winners stay longer- be it because they just won an award for being very good in said role, or it's the producers incentive to keep them on because it looks good to have a Tony winner in the cast. And god know those producers aren't short on cash.
But they don't have to- they're sold out, so it wouldnt make a difference sales-wise anyway, so I can kind of (kind of...) understand Seller's "whatever" attitude- the refusal to bump salaries etc. (It has been rumored in several places that he offered both Daveed and Renee LESS money in the next contract, but I don't buy it)
What IS wierd is that no roles are cast- understudies are going on for practically everyone. Javier was already in the cast, otherwise I wouldn't be suprised if Hamilton wasn't cast either- THAT's wierd... They had ages to cast, even just to eventually put those people on a backburner. Insted they are juggling understudies for MONTHS. Also- why announce Daveed 2 days in advance? I fully belive that maybe he reached a new contract settelment and maybe one party changed their mind (and that's why he didn't leave with the other 3 last week). But why so sudden? Why not finish the week?
Why bury this announcment in the middle of the press release? Why isn't it in the headline? The man is a Tony wonner for the role! I'd have a bad taste in my mouth if I was Daveed- the way they announced it was insulting.
This producing/ management team are acting as if this is their first job out of school. THAT's what's wierd to me..

I'm so happy she has an interesting project coming up for her. Hamilton really upped her status and it's about time- she seems so lovely.
On another note, what IS going on there backstage? Specifically in the producers' office??

The sudden announcement and day of Diggs' departure sounded fishy to me too...and that it isn't re-cast yet but being covered by understudies. Yup for Lafayette and Burr... I'm calling bad producing on this one :/

I think Rachel called out at least once every week recently on Bway, but I don't think it was on a certain day. If you're willing to make last minute trips Michael I think you should be good seeing Alice

I'd also like to add that is the NICEST forum I've had the fortune of being a part of. I was locked out of the "old forum" as i didn't register before it was locked, so I spent some time on the BWW forum, and let me tell you, while I don't agree with Patti Murin on most things- she was right about it being a nasty place.
This forum is informative, easy to use and I've really never seen actual nastiness. Some snark- sure, some topics drifting- yeah. But compared to the rest of the internet- it's suprisingly calm here.

A round trip to Paris+2 great Phantom tickets+a mid price ticket to an opera at the Garnier are literally going to cost me less than one ticket to Ham at the lowest price- I'm sorry I can't justify it.. But you and obviously a lot of other people can- I say good for you! I understand that. I just wanted to clarify to the other poster that the tickets under $200 aren't actually always the worst in the house. In some ways I preferred sitting front mezz than second row, definitely appreciated the gorgeous lighting design more. No I understand- but for that price you'd expect premium I think. I mean for me that's a full week's salary (yes minimum wage here is awfully low). I know when I saw les mis in London I got one of those wayy side mezz tickets, the ones that are right above the stage where Eponine first appears- cheapest price in the house, and a great view- better than some premium seats. But they were like 25 pounds... to me that's reasonable. But again- to each their own and thats fine!
