We had the moustache incident but not the loo shout. However, we were front row at the Belgrade, so it's possible it was the same night as you and we didn't hear the latter. Our show was 15 March evening. Thanks both - I was at the matinee on the 19th, so it seems the loo shout was an audience heckle. How rude! I remember thinking it was bizarre as it came so soon after the interval had ended. So it wasn’t just rude, but unimaginative as well!

Being a huge fan of the film, I really wanted to like this - but sadly even with lowered expectations I didn't enjoy it at all. I agree with vdcni : The problem is when they diverge from the film the creative choices aren't as strong and when they are just reading the same lines from the film then the limitations of the actors in comparison to the film cast is just glaringly obvious. The flames on the side of my face scene is included, presumably because it is so iconic but without the same acting choices of Madeline Kahn and the way it breaks the atmosphere is just falls flat. My biggest criticism is that it feels like they've used 'Goes Wrong' style fourth wall breaking humour in a play that really doesn't need it. For example, the set was good with its hidden pull-out sections, but it seemed very silly having the actors moving all the furniture and making a point of it - that just took me out of the play entirely. I have a question though that's been bugging me, hopefully someone can help. Shortly into Act 2 there's a scene where Wadsworth and Mrs White are approaching the bedrooms, deliberately slowly because they're suspicious of each other. At the performance I attended (Belgrade Theatre, Coventry), someone shouted "Someone make a move, I'm desperate for the loo!" (or similar). Is this part of the show and spoken by one of the characters off-stage, or was that a particularly rude audience member heckling? I'd also be intrigued to know if Colonel Mustard's moustache falls off every night. Fake corpsing is my personal theatrical bête noire and I suspect it's in play here!

Amazing line up, really looking forward to this! I thought Netflix had the contract for all-stars, but according to DigitalSpy it premieres on May 20 at 8am on WOW presents plus, starting with 2 episodes + untucked.

Saw this last night and Craig Ryder was on as Zidler, initially disappointed when I saw it on the board but he was excellent.
I’m a big fan of the film, and I really enjoyed the show. Yes it had its faults, but for the most part I was sat with either an ear-to-ear grin or holding back the tears.
The way they’ve set up the theatre is lovely, even this cheapskate in the Grand Circle saw everywhere draped with red velvet and strings of lightbulbs, swathed otherwise in deep red light. The lighting, sets and costumes are excellent - with all those lights they’ll be hit hard with the rise in energy prices!
I give it 4 stars (because I can-can-can!), a real spectacle of a show.

Yes you’re right, he’d hardly fit the profile for Baker these days! …so I’m going to assume he must be playing Red Riding Hood

Ooh I love Julian Bleach. Baker? or Wolf? I wonder… The Wolf also doubles as the Prince so I doubt it. He's more of a Narrator/Old Man Ah yes, you’re right. Given the framing of this production: …I suppose he could be the grandfather which somehow weaves in the Narrator and Old Man roles. Much as I’d like to see him be Baker, I think that would be a bit too “normal” a role for him!

I rather liked that - but then I'm a fan of PULP so I'm biased. It was filmed especially for the documentary, I think it was to show how versatile Sondheim's work is.

I agree it's a great documentary, seeing him in the 'Opening Doors' number got me quite emotional. Lovely stuff.

One thing that was really interesting was with the traverse staging, you can obviously see the audience on the opposite side, throughout, and with this type of show you get to watch the real mix of people with some having the time of their lives and some clearly regretting coming. If they haven't numbered the traverse seating as "Side A" and "Side 1", they've missed a trick!

They may be different, but the implication is there. Being an informal word I don't think there's an "official" definition, but for example the Cambridge Dictionary describes it as follows: It's also argued that the word is an abbreviation of "council house and violence".Edited to strike out my last sentence: I've just read that the abbreviation "council house and violence" (along with similar ones such as "council-housed and violent" and "Cheltenham Average") are more recently considered to retrofitted "backronyms" and not the proper etymology.

This board is becoming more toxic by the day. Imagine being cast in a production, then seeing this amount of disapproval and bile before you even begin. I pity anyone who has to perform under those conditions. On top of that, some are now voicing concern that this might encourage members of the public with a (perceived) lower social standing to come to the theatre. Elitism and punching down in one fail swoop. Whatever happened to 'class'? “This board” is not some sort of disembodied entity. It’s everybody who contributes to TheatreBoard including you Deal J . I haven’t seen anything that breaks our rules about encroachment on the private persona or private lives of performers but if you have seen that please report the post so we can deal with it. A celebrity’s public activity and persona is up for discussion because they have made it public. I didn't imply there had been any rule breaking, which is why I haven't reported any posts. I felt it was particularly unpleasant that the discussion had turned to how this might encourage "chavs" to come to the theatre. I personally think that's a horrible word that demonises the working classes and promotes elitism. For what it's worth, I agree that it's not a good casting decision, I'm not defending it - just adding my opinion to the discussion, like we are all entitled to do on this board.

Sadly I'm still hearing that word in use in the UK. Horrible. What a ghastly person they sound.

I thought I'd start a new thread for this touring production - we did have an earlier thread before the pandemic hit that covered two separate shows that were touring at the same time. I went to see this for a second time last night, it's such a fun show - they cram in loads of references to storylines from all ten series of the TV show and its stars' real lives. The songs are great fun, some of them are loosely based on numbers from other musicals and pop songs which is an added bonus for us stagey types. The cast are amazing, they must be fans of the show themselves because they've got the characters' mannerisms down to a tee. It's fast paced with lots of costume changes, and some of the cast play multiple roles as well. Full disclosure - I do have a family interest here in that my nephew is in the show, but from the reaction of the crowd on both nights, I don't think it's biased of me to be singing its praises! The tour continues through to the end of May, dates and information can be found on their website ( link).

According to this list Ofcom have rated the word as “strong” in their order of offensiveness. I’m sure it doesn’t need saying, but that list is full of NSFW language!

Do Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders play Van Shuyler and Bowers with any degree of comedy? They play the roles seriously. I thought them rather good, and I got moist-eyed at one poignant moment between the characters. Are they going to do the accent?

I could see Matt Smith as a potential for the next Emcee, he was great in American Psycho. He seems to have been getting a lot of film work lately though, so probably isn’t available.

Spoilers, drowseychap !! There’s a post on the previous page on how to do them, or if it’s too late to edit maybe BurlyBeaR can help Sorry I didn’t think I had posted spoilers so to speak The cast sheets are all out now and all over social media … people have booked for taboo so I’m sure realise something of the original cast are in it ? Could do without all the !!!! But thanks to burly bear for adding spoiler alert much appreciated don’t want to upset anyone else 👍 No worries, you didn’t upset me - I only mentioned it because people had been asking for spoilers to be used earlier in the thread, I thought better to catch it early given they’d asked. Apologies for the excessive exclamation marks.

Yes I agree, I think he's the perfect presenter for this - you can see he loves his job, he was getting really into singing along to Teenage Dirtbag!
