Really annoyed. - Had to turn down a ticket for "The Best of Rock Musicals" on Sunday as no tubes & no mainline train also. Two replacement bus services in each direction is more than I can tolerate.

Succumbed to buy a ticket even though I've seen it twice before with Michael Ball.

No - it's part of an all round education. We did Shakespeare , Dickens etc as well as more up to date writers. My love of "The Lord of the Rings" began with "The Hobbit" being one of the first set books at school. Later I read all of Gerald Durrell's books after "My Family & Other Animals" was the set book one year.

The first rule of theatre-going is always check the performance times, thereby avoiding arriving at 1.15 for a 3pm start. I thought the theatre looked unusually quiet! At least the lucky residents of Leeds now get to see me walking around their thriving city centre in my very stylish chinos (without turn ups). 🙂 Better than arriving half an hour after the start.

Just seen on Amazon "The Phantom of the Opera : Behind the scenes at the Palace Garnier". A book of 192 pages by Applause. Out 1/11/2019 at £24.95. I was wondering if this is the same book that was in the box set a while back. Does anyone know?

I could be mistaken but I'm sure I saw Dustin Hoffman at The Bridge last night to see Dame Maggie. Yes - he is in town. Elsewhere I saw a photo of him with the cast of "Everybody's Talking About Jamie".

I vaguely remember hearing 'Lord of the Rings' was the biggest financial loss but that may have been surpassed by now! I absolutely loved it.- Saw it 3 times.

I love musicals but no desire to see this as sounds boring & never heard of the main actress.

Saw this years ago when it was touring. I know I've told this before but my husband fell asleep and woke with a start at the cart & horses & screaming.- He caused all around us to laugh. I've never taken him to the theatre since! I should imagine the actors were cursing him. The book is absolutely terrific. Very atmospheric. I leant it to a lady I worked with who was into horror stories & she couldn't put it down.

Spend some of the weekend pondering how today's late teens / early 20s date. Back in my day (after chaperones, during what is now being cleaned up in #metoo) I remember we sort of nervously asked a lady to the cinema or a drink or something - and actually held a conversation. If it was a really good date, the stammering from both would become proper chat. So, over the weekend, the weather was good, the young couples were out... walking side by side staring at their phones. Do they now text each other throughout? Curious. My oldest son met his wife through an online dating website. He had to fly to Vienna to actually meet her face to face.

Interestingly, in the next booking period (opens Monday), they are taking out the side stalls seats, and replacing them with authentic "American Diner" booths. You will be able to order pies during the show from "waitresses" and enjoy them while watching, is the idea. Looks like the ones nearest the stage will be Band A price, the ones with a better view "premium." Not bad as they are including a voucher for a pie with each ticket. April fool.

Was in this afternoon. First, no merchandise, just the £10 programme (they take credit cards in the main foyer kiosk). Audience as expected - full report in the usual thread. Front row A has unlimited legroom except both end seats. Stage is high (head height 6ft) but you miss nothing. And the show... cast does well, very well at times. Loses its battle with the script about 2 scenes into act 2. Direction and choreography are a disaster - the director / choreographer credits appear to run only to "The Commitments" and "Faulty Towers Live In Australia" so no real wonder. And the mixing desk appeared to be having a bad afternoon too. More on my site, but this is pretty woeful. Just read your review theatremonkey. You are so right. After I saw it I advised my son [ who is a big fan of the program] to give it a miss.

I'm afraid my husband was right about this [ he saw the original London production late 60s or early 70s]. He said it would appear too dated. It did.

anita , may be worth considering Thameslink which have a service to Wimbledon, not used it for a Theatre visit so not sure of the logistics once you get there. Don't think my free pass would be valid on Thameslink but thanks for trying to help anyway.

Special performances Monday and Wednesday? Hmmm. Personally, I'd be filming it both nights and editing it for a nice blu ray available just before Christmas. I wish.

Annoyed at a facebook competition for tickets to Michael Ball concert. You have to put your mother but she is dead . Tried to get my grown up kids to enter for me but they have all quit facebook as it is "boring".
