One of our local theatres (provincial) has banned large bags, announced bag searches and closed the cloakroom.

Just had a look at the show website and it says "Danny Mac is only performing at dates in 2017". So that's 8 out of 17 venues..

I think of him as Daddy Warbucks, because my kids watched that version of Annie...and recently realised he's Professor Callahan in the Legally Blonde film.

Just noticed that this evening's edition (6.35) features musical theatre people again. Tim Rice, Don Black, Siobhan Dillon, Nigel Planer and others.

I thought he was mocking the person having the prolonged coughing fit but it was hard to tell.

Am I the only one thinking he benefitted from the love for LaLaland? Anyway, it was rather sweet.

Anyway, on a solo trip to the O-House MCR tonight I was mulling over the interval refreshment offering at ATG venues and had this GENIUS idea. Magnum. These babies would go a chuffing bomb with the theatre crowd dont you think? Why don't they sell them? The problem is, you take a bite and half the chocolate falls off..tricky when the lights go down..

(Incidentally, the Nick Hytner memoir is really interesting on his attempts to change the pricing structure and encourage new audiences - I highly recommend reading it to those of you interested in this topic!) Available on iPlayer at present, read by the man himself, as it's been Book of the Week on Radio 4.

Rent didn't announce Lucie's understudy when I saw it, either. We saw one photo on social media of a sign in the foyer, but we didn't spot it.

How odd. Seems like someone jumped the gun and they weren't ready to announce yet.

Were you too busy monkeying around to watch Broadchurch, TM? Miller is Olivia Colman's character. Best said by David Tennant at full, accented volume.

I was looking at tickets for this within a couple of minutes of Advance member booking opening and there wasn't much choice on the two dates I looked at. Nothing in the Pit. I think it must indeed be the Miller factor.

Audra McDonald was funny talking about this in her recent concert. When she plays Billie Holliday in Lady day, "Billie" interacts with her audience. She said that she was going to have to get used to reading London audiences as they cringed back in their seats willing her not to come near them.

Very enthusiastic response from a well sold house tonight too. Understudy Maureen was still on, and full of energy. (Lucie was watching so is presumably on the mend but wont be wanting to rush things considering the month she has ahead). Layton got the biggest reaction, not surprisingly , but the whole cast work so hard and seemed to appreciate the response! This theatre doesnt often receive touring musicals. It was reordered recently meaning that the small stalls block (ten rows of twenty I think) now rises up to meet the front of the dress circle, which seemed to enhance the atmosphere (and the view).

There was a a performance of Sh*t faced Shakespeare at 7, which seemed to overrun. We were there quite early and were sent to the Studio downstairs which had a bar, but once that was full I guess they held people outside. Then the downstairs contingent got restless about 8.35 and started heading up to the foyer, at which point tickets were checked and we were asked to wait again, but could at least get to the toilets!

Choose a performance, choose a seat and a list of price options will come up. If the pyramid price is available for that seat, it will be on the list.

Mark Strong at The Kid Stays in the Picture last night. I feel his wife may have noticed my intense interest in her husband - whoops. But I mean what's not to like... He was turning heads at Hamlet on Saturday night too.

Felt like there was a lot of honesty in his interactions with the audience and at times things seemed so simple he actually appeared to be a guy at an audition or just improvising in a studio, not playing one of the most challenging roles in Shakespeare! That was the discussion we had on the way home. There was no sense of "Here I am , giving my Hamlet". He was real and vulnerable and made you listen to him.

Thank you. Just looking for something suitable that's showing locally around her birthday, but I don't know if I want to risk the tutting..maybe I'll just go on my own!

Advice please on how suitable this would be for a relative who has a low tolerance for swearing/strong sexual humour? Obviously I get that it's not The Sound of Music, but is it at the level of cheeky or edging towards filthy? (Genuine question!)

At least they make it clear on their site which performances are sold out before you join the queue. That's better than some!

Seems a bit unfair that Martha Ruiz - the accountant who did not mix up the envelopes - has been removed from the Oscars too. Part of the issue seems to be that, when it came to it, neither of them was willing to go on stage, as previously agreed, to point out the error before the apparent winners got into their speeches.

This will go OT rather quickly, but it's an interesting one, isn't it. Does the theatre worry more about making sure that those who paid for membership get what they want, or about pulling in potential new audiences. They did push membership fairly consistently before booking opened, as most places do, and maybe they have been caught out by the take-up for Caroline, or Change.( I can't imagine they're surprised that Lear with Ian McKellen is selling out in the small space, but, as I say OT.)

I do however disagree with the language issue. As posted here before, Billy Elliot has been done in a regional accent that, in my opinion, is far stronger than that of the Sheffield accent. Jokes wise, I couldn't really count more than 5-10 references that were specific to Sheffield and that would need to be changed Sorry, I meant whether the swearing would be too much for school productions , rather than the regional accent. I assumed Burly's Billy Elliot point was also about swearing, not Geordie-ness. Also, Burly, your point about subversion is a really interesting one!

Just had this by email: "Our Friends priority booking period has been extremely popular this year and whilst we would like to reassure you there is still good availability for the Festival Theatre productions, we now have limited availability for certain productions in our smaller Minerva Theatre. Many performances of Caroline, Or Change and King Lear are now sold out so we do advise you to approach booking with flexibility in dates and seating areas." So it would seem that they don't hold back tickets for every performance, if at all.
