Surely reducing prices is better than not selling at all?
Anyway, going to this tomorrow night. Not a clue where we’re seated yet.

I had the Samsung S4 Mini a few years ago and it was the worst piece of rubbish I ever had. Seriously a couple of yoghurt pots tied together with string would have been more effective as a phone. It put me off Samsung phones for life. I would have preferred a new HTC but they just weren’t offering any anywhere at the time I needed to upgrade.
I used to be with Virgin Mobile and was held ransom to choose whatever handset their contracts allowed at the time of my renewal. I never thought of getting an iPhone because of the cost, but after 16 years of crappy service with with Virgin I had enough and went SIM-only with another provider, then bought an iPhone. 3 years into an iPhone 6 and it’s just fine. No real issues, plus it make sense as I’ve had an iMac for the last 10 years and it’s all compatible.

Which brings it back round to the "I've seen Hamilton more times than theres been Sundays since it opened, aren't I so dedicated and wondrous" saga. On Mummy & Daddy’s credit card? Only if Mummy and Daddy come with them with ID. I’m taking my Mum in July, but it was on my credit card.

Absolutely, Baemax. I’m in exactly the same position. I do have regular standing orders going into savings accounts and pay into a pension, but even if I subsidised my leisure spending to top up those payments, it doesn’t make the slightest dent into what I could afford property wise. I’d rather live my life and enjoy it while I can than eat baked beans every night in misery with the lights off. If I had to do that for a couple of years in order to afford a property of my own then I would, but I’d literally have to do that for two decades to even try to make a start, which by that time house prices would have increased ten-fold already anyway.

Coffee - I mean it’s alright. I like a black Americano every now and again, but the whole coffee culture that has taken over the country over the last 20 years has got ridiculous.
I’ve started to resent people I know who just “can’t start the day without my latte”. The worst thing about it is that as a proper tea drinker (not just bags of English Breakfast), none of these coffee chains know how to make a decent cup of anything resembling tea.

Maybe they’re rich kids? Students with wealthy parents or something.
I’ve already seen it 4 times and *cringe* have another 5 booked (4 taking new people and one alone), which would make it in contention for the most visits I’ve done for a single show - by far the most in a calendar year. But apart from the previews they have all been at the very least a month apart.

I never understand why some people buy huge bags of popcorn when most of it ends up on the floor. If you only wanted and needed half that amount then why not get a small?
I usually go by myself or with two particular friends. One time I went with some of the girls from work as they were doing a quote-along version of 10 Things I Hate About You. I was appalled at one of them whom I would class more of a friendly colleague rather than a friend. Very professional at work, but when it came to the cinema she was purposely late and bought a mountain of popcorn. After about 10 minutes of grazing on it, the whole bag dropped on the floor and she wasn’t at all phased or apologetic. It just seemed to be one of those things that is apparently acceptable behaviour.

I think Christopher Nolan is the most overrated film director around now. I loathe the Dark Knight trilogy.

Don’t underestimate the role parents and older siblings play in introducing kids to ‘classics’. Exactly. And people exploring films on their own - I'm 37 and I've seen hundreds of films older than I am! If something is great, it's great, regardless of how old it is 😁 See, I think it’s different for people like us (I’m 36) who grew up as children without the internet and a never ending choice of TV channels. A lot of my love of movie musicals did come from my mum, but everything else came from the old movies they would show on TV on Sunday mornings on BBC 2. The other channels would be showing religious programming, Formula 1 and Horse Racing, so “anything else” was just the default we would go to as kids. I’m sure if at the age of 8 I had the choice to see a current film over an old one I would have taken it, but I’m pretty thankful now that it contributed to my general knowledge of popular culture.

Never understood the fuss about Patti LuPone. I haven’t seen her perform in person, but those Evita clips are some of the most hammy, over the top things I’ve ever seen.
Grease is one of my favourite films, but as a stage show it’s rubbish.
While I love Hamilton and respect the influence it has taken from Les Mis, I can’t get on board with the repetitiveness of the motifs in Les Mis - I find it barely even a complete musical as I swear it only has about 5 actual individual songs.

Considering a lot of the audiences for this show are probably teenagers and uni students I think people are within their right to be disappointed regarding prices. Darren Bell’s just tweeted something along the lines of ‘If you can’t afford it then don’t go’ and I can’t help but think the whole thing sounds very privileged. Really? Maybe I’m in the dark a bit on this but I barely know anyone under 30 who even knows the film. Alas, I spoke to a 26 year old this week who has never heard of Kevin Spacey (our office is very near to the Old Vic too) and had a friend who met a 24 year old last week who had never heard of Jack Nicholson. Knowing that there are young people who know Heathers is at least a light at the end of this very dark tunnel.

Mushrooms are the devil. Why would anyone want to eat slimy grey fungi?
ABBA are more than slightly overrated and you couldn’t pay me to see Mamma Mia!
Cats is unwatchable. Every time I hear the words “Jellicle Cats” it sends a shiver down my spine.
I rather enjoyed I Can’t Sing.

I remember when the What’s Love Got To Do With It movie came out in 1993. My brother, then 14, was surprised to learn that Tina Turner was black.
Yes, he’s that stupid.

It's not possible to relate to people who don't share the same skin colour then? Wow. I didn’t read into Stagey’s comments like that. I’m sure he/she didn’t mean that... That reminds me of a quote from the Oscars this year from Kumail Nanjiani: “Some of my favourite movies are movies by straight white dudes, about straight white dudes. Now straight white dudes can watch movies starring me, and you relate to that. It’s not that hard. I’ve done it my whole life.”

Argh, I just paid £50 for my ticket in June. Seriously what is wrong with me?
Heathers is one of my all time favourite films, but I wasn’t even that impressed when I skimmed through the ‘bootleg’ version of the musical on YouTube. Still, curiosity got the better of me.

Does anyone know who the understudy for Hadley Fraser is? I couldn’t even see him on the website and it wasn’t announced on the West End Understudies Twitter account when I saw it on 3rd March.
Whoever he was, I swear I was listening to a young Gene Wilder. His spoken voice was almost identical.

I completely agree, I actually think It Means Beautiful is the best song and possibly best scene in the whole show. I liked He's My Boy, but it doesn't feel, for me anyway, like the standout number. He’s My Boy was my standout of the whole show for me. Just adored it instantly; so moving. I just thought it was at a point where it was a very stop/start point in the show where it didn’t seem to naturally segue into the song. I was just thinking “well clearly this is going to be the emotional song from Jamie’s mum, and it wasn’t set up particularly well, like it was just shoehorned in there as a necessity without moving the story forward or telling me anything I didn’t already know about her character. It was the complete opposite of the segue into It Means Beautiful which felt very genuine.

So just got home after seeing this for the first time. I’m not sure it’s one for repeat trips for me. I really really enjoyed the first act, but it fell down a bit in the second half as the quality of songs dropped. I really disliked the He’s My Boy song (although my friend I went with disagrees) as the story went in a predictable direction. It Means Beautiful was the only real standout.
It absolutely shines in the script and performances. The whole theatre was laughing along and on their feet at the end. I just wish I liked the songs in the second act as much as they seemed to.

The BFI Southbank (next to the NT) has its own shop for film. It's really just books, postcards and DVDs of old films, but it's pleasant for a browse.

Excellent. I never understood why traditional cinema snacks were so noisy anyway. When I sneak my Tesco Meal Deals in, i always get a pasta pot or a cheese and pickle sandwich. If they sold them at the cinema I’d be perfectly willing to buy them there. Nachos and Popcorn just aren’t for me.

I'm glad so many people have already seen and liked this (and mischievously delighted by n1david's comments re Call Me By Your Name and Moonlight, as I disliked both) but please, fellow members, do start a thread when you see a film! Especially since it turns out that some of you saw this weeks ago, though giving you the benefit of the doubt, I'm sure someone would have taken the plunge in due course. If I started a thread every time I saw a film at the cinema, you’d need a whole new Film Forum!

For those of you who were there talking about sound issues, I don’t think it came across that way on the broadcast. I’m going to see Jamie later this week and hadn’t heard any of the songs before last night. It sounded great to me on the TV so am looking forward to it.
I’ve always found the Royal Albert Hall to be quite rubbish for sound for anything other than Classical music. I’ve been to whole pop concerts there and not heard a word the artist said or sang. Always had similar issues with the acoustics in the old Earls Court arena too so I just don’t bother with the RAH any more.

Compared to Garfield and Scott it wasn’t, the screens gave him the lift that he needed. Considine I would put alongside Cranston, also a performance which didn’t fill the space as much as it could but, in comparison, he didn’t have any screens to help him. Plus, don't forget that Bryan Cranston is a bigger star than Considine and Scott. And he turned up to the show (in a nice brown tux btw) which Garfield didn't (couldn't). It does appear to be getting a bit like the Brit Awards, in that the panel is likely to award whomever is most likely to turn up to the ceremony.

I sort of fell out of love with TodayTix when they became more well known and started advertising with posters around London. Classic case of “I loved this before the rest of the public knew about it, and now they’re mainstream they have sold out” syndrome.
They probably make more money now which is great for them, but I’ve found the seats on offer are far inferior to what they were over a year ago.

Watching the Oliviers last night I realised I saw the covers for King George and Aaron Burr at the matinee on Saturday - I only glanced at the cast board when I arrived to see if Jamael and Rachel were on. After the opening Olivier number I was so much more impressed with the guy I saw on Saturday, yes ok Giles won his category so I’m sure is better in the show, but on Saturday there was a commanding power in the cover - does anyone know who it would have been please? Also King George... very funny part but I can’t see what Michael Jibson does with the role to make it a winner over the other nominees?! What am I missing? Yes, I have seen Giles three times and Sifiso Mazibuko once. I was far more impressed with Sifiso.
