I'm seeing them in either Newcastle or Sunderland when they come around (don't ask me which, someone else bought the tickets and I wasn't paying attention. Whichever they're at). Always enjoy their songs so hoping for a good night!

The last time I got moved, I didn't even get an email (42nd Street). But as they'd moved me from one end row seat to the other end of the same row I didn't really care. Seemed a bit weird though.
I've found lately I'm using TodayTix only for day seats/lotteries though. For anything else, I see a discount on TodayTix and think "Aha, discounts available" then do some Googling until I find where the discount really is and can buy the tickets without the TodayTix fee.

I love her version - if she could remove some of the 'messing with it' she'd be great for this. She does have a beautiful voice.

I expected it to be not so much 'star' as in 'all Olivier or Tony award winners' but as in 'people well known for something in musical theatre'. So, much as I side-eye the choice, Carrie Hope Fletcher counts because she's well known and has a large fan base. I really didn't expect Eponine and Cosette to be absolute unknowns. Nothing against either actress, they'd both be valid choices if it was just 'latest cast change at Les Mis' but when it's billed as All Star it seems a bit of a swiz.

Yeah I'm sure they'll be very good, but this is being billed as an 'All Star' cast - bit disappointing really.

There are a couple of people clearly disapproving of it in this very thread, albeit they haven’t been silly enough to express the sentiment in the type of blatantly racist way you’ll find on Reddit. You’ll notice the assumption that Disney have deliberately picked a WOC rather than actually conducting a colour-blind casting search that found the best woman for the job. The trouble with believing they just went for the 'best woman for the job' is that it implies that Emma Watson was also the best, and there's no way that's the case. There are all kinds of things that go into the casting, and it's not all about talent. Doesn't mean Haille can't do it - she has a beautiful voice from the clips I've heard. I'd rather they cast like this, changing the look, than said "Which famous person can we try to make look like the cartoon" and tried to 'fix' the singing afterward.

Not sure how I feel about this one to be honest. I think it depends on how I look at this new film.
As a brand new film - absolutely fine. She has a beautiful singing voice and will look great as a mermaid.
As an adaptation of the original film - not so keen. She doesn't look like that Ariel. Find a shade of red that works for her and it'll help, though.
Of course, basically every option I've seen who does look like the original Ariel would have been a terrible, terrible choice. Some people on Twitter are saying it should have been Ariana Grande, and anything that avoids that as a possibility is a very good thing. At least this time they've cast someone who can sing without so much autotune that they sound like a 90s Cher song. Yes, I'm looking at you, Emma Watson.

For anyone in the region, a matinee has been added for the Newcastle Theatre Royal show - tickets available now if you're a member of the Friends scheme, or from Friday at 9am general sale.

Lion King. I detest Mamma Mia but nobody goes on about how it's this amazing spectacle, it's just...Mamma Mia. Whereas Lion King gets hyped like crazy and then when I finally gave in and went...meh. Just...meh.

Odd question about booking tickets for this. I'm looking at tickets for a group of five people, however I've noticed that booking tickets for six people gets a group rate and saves over £100 for the particular seats we were looking at.
Does anyone know if there's any reason why we couldn't just book six tickets and five people go?

I did an amateur production of Avenue Q with reproductions of the original puppets (NOT the ones currently doing the rounds with Selladoor which are a bit off compared to the originals) and I don't know what the valuation was on them, but the insurance was in the thousands.

Unless it's a clear expectation, made clear to everyone when buying tickets, then no it's not ok. Put a notice up or a message when buying tickets like 'Please note: Audience participation is encouraged, other theatregoers near you may sing along' or some such and let people decide if they want to go.
The odd bit of singing along that tends to happen during megamixes, etc, being an exception.

Singing along as supposedly acceptable behaviour? Not unless it's clearly stated when people buy tickets. The author of that article behaved like a bully.

I don't sit in the stalls unless I can get front row, since in most theatres it means I end up looking at the back of a head (and even a slight obstruction of my view drives me absolutely nuts). So if they want to move me from my carefully chosen front row circle seat, I'd rather not be there at all - refund (or if refused, written complaint) time.

I've got one confirmed ticket - and four other transactions sitting on my bank account. Some poor folk have their cards maxed out and can't even retry though, crap for them.

What a mess this presale is.
First didn't let anyone book seats, now loads of people have gotten 'transaction failed' messages trying to pay for them. Which would be bad enough, but the money appears to be coming out of bank accounts and some people are hundreds out of pocket from retrying payments.
Whats On Stage twitter approach seems to be a mix of copy-and-paste replies and silence, but at least the Love Theatre twitter people are trying to help!

I haven't walked out on anything during the interval for years. But I wished I'd walked out of Sister Act with Alexandra Burke (couldn't understand a word she was saying, terrible acting and the actor/musician stuff did NOT work for that show) and the Flashdance tour.
Years ago as a student I did leave a play at the interval - the trouble is, it was a VERY small theatre and our entire group (about 12 people) left. It had been sold to us as some sort of family drama, and when we got there the whole thing was lecturing everyone about political prisoners...somewhere. Never did work out where. We felt bad about leaving as our absence would have been obvious, but not bad enough to stay. It was terrible.

Jamie sounds gorgeous on this, but while I enjoy Carrie's voice (even on this) I think a lot of her performance was so visual that it loses something when it's audio-only. Not unusual - there are many other performers who are exactly the same (*cough*Barrowman*cough*). But when I'm listening to JD I can *hear* elements of that wicked look Jamie had in the role. I don't get that listening to Carrie.
I'll admit I've skipped 'I Will Never Shut Up Again'. I found it so bad live that I've no desire to hear it again. Can't believe it wasn't pulled from the show toward the end of the run, to be honest. On the other hand, I actually LIKE 'You're Welcome' on the recording, though it annoyed me in the theatre. Huh.

Other way around here, I booked for me and my Mum. I wonder if I could get some sort of filming dispensation to record her face during Hasa Diga Eebowai?

Oh, no. I was hoping the Narrator would be someone who could change my mind about going to see this, as it's an old favourite of mine. But I've never heard Sheridan Smith sing without either wincing or being just vaguely disappointed. Her voice just doesn't float my boat. Nothing personal, if it was spoken instead of sung I'd say she'd be great - but I want a beautiful voice for this.

Well, that was a surprise - relatively painless. Got my favourite circle seats for £47.50 each, fairly reasonable I thought. Pricing looks to go up to £65 with the only pricing above that being for the 'Ambassador Experience' stuff. They've got restricted view seats going for as little as £13 too.

I have a feeling that it'll be similar to Wicked pricing. My booking process for Wicked involved: *click* *click* "Oh, sod OFF!" *close window*

Took me about an hour to get in (though the queue had said two hours) after getting my link about 12:05. Loads of tickets left, couldn't get the seat I wanted on the day I wanted, but could have had the one two to the left. I didn't want that so changed days and got the one I wanted - A25 Royal Circle. Furthest from the side without hitting premium, which I won't pay. That'll do.

Well, I loved this and couldn't care less what the critics have to say. It was great fun, and the people sitting around me seemed to be of the same opinion.
Of course, if someone didn't like the TV show there is absolutely no point in going along. It's not for them. But it was just a damn good laugh.
I did have a couple of criticisms, but fairly minor. Rodney, though played very well, was just far too young for the storylines they went with. We were watching apparently teenage Rodney do the marriage storyline, which was a bit weird. Also I wasn't keen on the 'jukebox' bits, which didn't fit with the original songs. Though I say that reluctantly, because 'Holding Back the Years' was sung so beautifully!
I do hope it goes out on tour whenever it's finished in the West End - a few people I know who can't make the London trip would love to see this.

I'd love to try day seats but I'm concerned about the high stage. I'm 5' 2" and while I don't mind not seeing feet (I've done front row at Hamilton and been happy enough) it's sounding high. Years ago I went to see Shakespeare in Love at the Noel Coward and enjoyed it enough that I considered going back for day seats the next day - but when I went down to the front row to check the view, I could see literally nothing from down there.
Any short people sat front row yet?

There is a special place in hell for circle leaners. Bonus points if they do it while sitting on the front row.

I only saw a clip of the bit at the end where the original cast came out - but Keala Settle, was it my speakers or did she actually scream her high note? I honestly thought she was better than that but wondering if I'm missing something.
