After 6 hours I finally managed to buy 3 tickets, row J of the Dress Circle, for a friend who is on holiday. I think I only got those because they are 3 seats by themselves. I started at 24,684 on the Nimax site. I also went to ATG and was 117,534 so eventually got the sold out notice with them.

Richard III at the Almeida this afternoon followed by the opening night of the Australian Ballet's Swan Lake tonight. Another really late night home.

I've found it listed at one of my local cinemas and it says Almeida Live, so don't know if it will be through NT Live.

This is going to Richmond, Brighton and Cheltenham before coming into London so I shall probably go to see it on tour.

The new season consists of
The Importance of Being Earnest 9 - 24 Sept Dead Sheep by Jonathan Maitland 25 Sept - 1 Oct 946: The Amazing Story of Adolphus Tips 6 - 15 Oct The Exorcist 21 Oct - 5 Nov Pride and Prejudice 8 - 12 Nov Treasure Island 25 Nov - 7 Jan The Snowman 11 - 15 Jan 2017 Jane Eyre 4 - 16 Sept 2017
All seats from row J back are blacked out and there seems to be a rearrangement of seat prices. Also no over 60 discount anymore. I must say that I don't find anything that I really want to see in this season.

I've just come back from seeing an encore showing of A View from the Bridge in the cinema and even though I saw it in the theatre last year I was still knocked for six by it. Having only been in the upper levels in the theatre I found that having such a close up view enabled me to see the expressions so much more, especially those of Mark Strong. At the end I felt as though I'd been punched in the stomach. So pleased that NT Live repeated it.

I've just been to see The Father in Birmingham and in the programme there is an interview with Christopher Hampton which states "The Truth was his breakout hit, which I've translated and which should be seen in the West End towards the end of next year"

I notice that for the performances from 25 July onwards there are no concessionary tickets showing, just Adult.

I have so many programmes that I'm sorry to say that they have to go. However I'm in the process of cataloging them before I get rid of them (I shall keep some special and autographed ones). I'm making a list of every play I've seen with details of when and where I saw it, every actor with what I've seen them in, role played and when and where. I also list every thing I see in date order by year. All of this is going on spreadsheets. Also included are all the ballets and operas I've seen. Needless to say this is taking me quite a time to do but space is becoming a premium.

I currently have 47 shows booked, this includes 22 ballet and dance, 13 in London, 10 in Stratford, the rest in Birmingham. Some of these are ballets on a subscription. I book in advance because I like certain parts of the theatre which are likely to sell out if I don't book early. With London theatres day seats are no use as I can't get there early enough and I like to get the best cheap seats I can.

I was one of those who enjoyed this programme, with a few caveats (I also thought the West Side Story wasn't particularly well performed) but this was intended to be a celebration of Shakespeare and the fact that it was shown on BBC2 and not BBC4 is something to be welcomed given the paucity of arts programmes on mainstream TV. If this encourages anyone to go to the theatre to see Shakespeare or any other form of theatre then we should all be pleased.

I saw this yesterday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the different accents Kenneth Branagh used were supposed to be a result of the injection he was given. I did think he was a bit over the top at times but it didn't really matter as I came out of the theatre with a smile on my face and feeling happy, if that doesn't make the play a success, regardless of how good it is or not , I don't think it matters. Sometimes critical judgement can be suspended!

It received what I would consider the "normal" amount of applause for this theatre. Three people stood up at the front of the stalls but that was all. I did, however, see about four people leaving in the interval (I was standing by the exit for the stalls area).

I've just come back from seeing this in B'ham and have to say I found it rather boring. I've never seen the film or read the book so didn't really have much idea of the story but having looked it up it's obviously much closer to the book then the film. I thought Pixie Lott was good, especially as this is her first acting part and she certainly had plenty of costume changes. I just found the constant narration by "Fred" didn't hold my attention. The cat, who was very well behaved, makes two appearances, one in each act and seemed to hold the audience's attention more than the actors! One member of the audience obviously found it so boring that he fell asleep and started snoring in Act 1 and didn't return for the second act.

Just back from seeing this and really enjoyed it. I agree with the previous posters that using a nearly all black cast and setting it in Africa works really well. Papa Essiedu was excellent as Hamlet and for the first time I didn't find Ophelia came over as a drip. She was much more feisty than usual. Loved the way they did the sword fight at the end.

The encore will just be a reshowing of the live broadcast. They don't film it again.

My first visit to the theatre was when I was six and my parents took me to see The Emperor's New Clothes at the old Birmingham Rep. I've just looked this up and see that Albert Finney was in it but all I can remember is that there was a revolving stage and that my Dad got stopped by the police on the way home for some reason. He never drove into the city centre again! After that it was lots of pantos at the Alex where I saw the likes of Morecombe and Wise and Arthur Askey. I still have the programmes for these. I used to love the dancing waters in these pantos. My first play was 1066 and All That, also at the Old Rep followed by Dear Brutus at the Alex. I then graduated to Shakespeare, seeing Romeo and Juliet and Othello (with Mike(!) Gambon as Othello followed by Shaw's St Joan, also all at the Old Rep. I think this theatre formed my love of theatre. I've been hooked ever since on plays light and serious, with periods of intensive theatre going (which I'm in at the moment going to lots of plays in London, as well as B'ham and Stratford) alternating with not so much when money was tighter and I had a family.

Women with long hair worn on top of their head in a 'bun'. Do they not realise how much it will obscure the view for the people sitting behind them.
