I volunteer at a regional theatre, and it's the production company for each show who decide everything around announcements, filming and photography, latecomers, signage etc, which is why there's such variation in rules between shows. We do whatever we're instructed to do by them, it's never our decision. Most companies are against pre-show announcements as they feel it sets the shows off in a "buzz-kill" tone. And yet they still want us to stop people from recording, taking photos and singing! It's really not an easy job to do sometimes.

Did they include both of Tommy and Winnie's songs - 'I'll share it all with you' and 'Who do you love, i hope' ? I assume it was the 1999 version they did, with all the 'updates' such as including 'Old Fashioned Wedding' and cutting 'I'm an Indian too' I wish I had been able to see it. Yes to all of those inclusions and exclusions 😁

I loved it. I definitely felt this is the way to do the "old classics" now, skip the overly-long talking sections and replace it with snappy narration in order to get to the glorious songs played by a fantastic orchestra. Agree that the secondary couple didn't really add anything to it, but Oliver and Rachel were absolutely brilliant. Rachel in particular showed how well she can do comedy, aside from sounding phenomenal as always. Between Elphaba, Beverley Bass and Annie Oakley, she really is top-drawer talent and incredibly versatile.

I went on Thursday, really enjoyed it. Very simple and stripped back, some lovely arrangements and all 3 women sounded fabulous. Could've done without the reworked "Gotta Have A Gimmick" section but everything else was fabulous. Jessica Daley in particular sounded incredible. It really suited the small studio space as well. Having regular cabaret performances like this is a great idea 👍

You can also filter TodayTix for a particular date and it will show you what's available, as well as restricting further by Matinee or Evening.

What happens with shows that get concerts like this? Is it just the songs? Or do they do the ordinary scenes as well? If it's like the Bonnie & Clyde concert it will be semi-staged with book scenes, not far off a full production.

I've seen Alexandra in Sister Act, The Bodyguard and Joseph, and always enjoyed her. Not the greatest actress in the world, sure, and not in Beverley's league (but who is?!). But the negativity on here surprises me.

Yeah but as soon as they say "Romeo & Juliet with the songs of Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys", that should be enough to sell it. If it turns into a celeb-fest for the sake of it and loses its character, it'll be a real shame. But stick STARRING JOE BLOGS FROM X then you have a winner (see Waitress tour poster) Or you have a train wreck! 😁

Because ‘in this day & age’ musical theatre is as much about its stars as it is about the shows. Social media has been utilised to drum up frenzies at every cast change. People have a right to expect to see the faces used to advertise the show. The show is sold on it. Blah blah sickness & holiday…blah blah medical privacy. Either go back to casting fabulous nobodies and CREATING stars or act with a bit of integrity and admit whatever voice saving schedule has been agreed. But as several people have pointed out to you numerous times, the cast are not billed above the title. Therefore you are not buying a ticket to see the cast you are buying a ticket to see the show. I’m not saying that people can’t be disappointed they didn’t get to see someone, I’m saying the same people moaning that Lucie only did a certain percentage of shows doesn’t mean that the show was wrong for not clarifying what was going on there. Someone else mentioned in other jobs that person would get fired or moved positions if they were on half the time. It genuinely depends.. like I keep saying over and over: we don’t know what issues Lucie was facing during Wicked. She could have a chronic health condition or suffering with mental health issues and therefore was only able to do a certain amount of shows a week. The producers not only do not need to clarify this, it would actually be against the law to share an employees medical issues without the permission of the employee. And also it would be discriminatory if it was such medical issues to not employ or to replace said employee. My kinder surprise comment was a joke btw but I’m glad everyone took it so seriously lol. You're not "pointing anything out" to us, we're all aware of the "you paid for Wicked, you saw Wicked" argument. We're just saying that one of the leading reasons that people book certain shows is to see their favourite performers, so they're allowed to be disappointed when they're not on, that's all.

Waiting for someone to tell robertb213 to complain to the theatre if he’s that bothered 🙂 I actually didn't mind, Amy took over after "Popular" so I got my first 'Witch Switch' 😁 So to be fair she was probably ill. Doesn't explain the other 51 weeks. But it's all good, I'm over it, and she's still wonderfully talented.

Exactly. They cast Lucie knowing she has a big fan base who'd want to see her, plus let's not forget she pulled out of the Waitress tour for it. It was a big deal and was sold as such, being all over the socials. She's one of the biggest "names" they'd had in the role for a while, and fans are allowed to be disappointed not to see her when they booked on the basis of her appearing. Yes Joe Public won't know either way, but Wicked fans are a loyal/intense breed and are significant in number, so there will have been a lot of people who felt let down by her patchy attendance (myself included).
It also seems to the only job in the world where it's fine to only turn up for 50% of the time (for whatever the reasons may be) and have someone else cover for you. In most jobs you'd be moved to a different position or asked to leave! 🤣

Putting a request in now for Zoe Birkett. Please and thank you. If this happens I’m booking immediately! Am I right in thinking she’s currently (or currantly!) in the Bake Off musical which only runs for a couple of months? Yes she is....and it closes the middle of May. Ooh! 🤔

Looks like Melody is only contracted for the first half of the tour.... any word yet on who may be doing the second half?

I know she's very "Marmite" and not everyone's cup of tea, but if it's true I think she'll be fabulous. I didn't bother finishing the last series but she'd tempt me back. She's hilarious.

The lead costumes are great but those ensemble outfits are just dreadful (and the fact that they stay the same throughout the show just makes them even worse).

Completely agree with others, when I saw this it felt like panto with a budget. The set and illusions (flying carpet etc) were fantastic and were its saving grace, if it gets scaled back on tour there won't be a lot to recommend about it apart from that brilliant score.

Jonny Fines' Scarecrow was one of the few saving graces in this production for me. If he's gone as well, it'll be real shame. Manford and Banjo will get bums on seats I guess, that's apparently the priority these days.

I wanted more Ursula but it sounds like Melissa McCarthy is nailing the voice at least! I may, or may not, have seen the leaked full trailer and McCarthy absolutely nails the voice. She sounds almost identical to Pat Carrol while giving a slightly more gaudy sound, like she’s leaning even further into the camp. This has me very excited 😁

She should be fairly reliable this time. It's only 20 minutes' work and then a 90 minute lie-down 😉

I volunteered for An Evening With Tim Rice last week and he said that Aida would be seen in London next year. So figures crossed for that one at least.

James Arthur confirmed on Twitter earlier in the year that he isn't Rhino. It's pretty much guaranteed to be Charlie Simpson.

You know who'd be a good Elphaba at some point (once she's done with Frozen)? Samantha Barks. She's been very reliable in Frozen, only off for holidays and rarely for illness. Elphaba is a much bigger role than Elsa of course, but I still think she could knock it out of the park. Here's her on I'd Do Anything performing DG aged only 17! She'd be fantastic, and her voice has come on such a long way, but I went to a concert of hers a couple of years ago where she was asked about Wicked, and she basically said she has no desire to play Elphaba unfortunately. Seemed strange as surely it's a big one to tick off any actress' bucket list, but she just said she wasn't interested.
