Thought this was pretty good. Pin cushion man is back on, and not using a stick, so good to see he's recovered! Like others I booked early and I'm sure I booked in the central block (but clearly have no way of checking!) and found myself in the right hand side block. Odd. Do you not still have the email confirmation they sent when you booked? Seats numbers are on there. I do, and the seat numbers are the same - but no way of knowing whether those seats were originally located on the central block or not.

Booked for my third visit to In the Heights on those ridiculously cheap £20 Tuesday tickets!

Fox - yes they were definitely Australian looking! That whole scene was a bit of a mess. Unfortunately they are not replacing the actor who hurt his leg, so the actor playing the Lizard Man had now stepped into all the parts he played. I did think that led to a bit of confusion (putting in spoiler tags because I'm referring to the ending here) {Spoiler - click to view} Towards the end, when the wedding between Violet and Buddy is called off, Terry challenges Buddy on his homosexuality and his different priorities, and at that point, the film director walks in.
The actor playing the director is the same guy who played the dancer Buddy was (possibly) involved with earlier on - at that point, I assumed it was that character coming back to confront Buddy, or possibly to walk off into the sunset with him. I assume those characters would normally be different actors.

Right before the start of Side Show tonight, two guys sat next to me who were clearly involved in the production/direction, armed with pencils and notepads, so I steeled myself for an evening of whispers and pencil scratching.
Turns out they were perfectly quiet and well-behaved, a nice surprise. However, what was very distracting was the thin, clingy grey sweatpants on the one closest to me. Made it hard to keep my eyes on the show!

That's strange about the seating as I am sure it was reserved seating from the day tickets went on sale which is when I bought mine. Unless there was some sort of priority booking scheme. What is this about the seats? I booked specific seats for this one in the front centre section, does this mean they could put someone in my seat I booked the week tickets went on sale? I'm pretty sure that they've re-arranged the layout since the tickets went on sale. Our seats tonight were on the right hand side (far wall from the entrance), though close to the centre-block. However, I booked the day tickets went on sale, and I am *sure* I booked to be face-on - in fact, I remember thinking I was booking basically the same seats where I happened to sit for Grey Gardens, as they were good then. The whole theatre is the other way round to the last two things I saw here (Grey Gardens and Toxic Avenger) and feels bigger, with a deeper floor area. I could believe the face-on seating is shorter than originally planned, and the sides longer. Therefore I think the seats that were on the ends of the face-on seating have become the ends of the sides. That said, I was mostly happy with the seats. There were a couple of times, particularly in the second half, where the blocking prevented me seeing a character's face, but for the most part they do a good job of playing to the whole auditorium, and staging different scenes in different directions. Also, don't sit front row if you don't want to be touched...

A really excellent read, thanks for sharing. I partly felt sorry for him, but there was a real air of entitlement about him there, and that was before I got to the bit where he judged the audience of reviewers for how they watched his show. (Which sounds awful even from his own precis of it.)

During the heatwave the temperature in there was unacceptably high though, if I hadn't known beforehand and dressed appropriately I would have seriously struggled. That aircon has to go in before July rolls around. Yep, it'd definitely put me off booking anything at the Union between June and September, to be frank.

I notice the DVD and blu-ray include the documentary The Heat Is Back On, which I had been considering buying separately anyway, so that's a nice bonus!

DJW is most likely bored of this role anyway, and is already campaigning for a spot in Hamilton. Yes, at the performance I saw DJW did seem to be just marking through the performance - seemingly happy to let others do the work. Even his big solo number "Proud of Your Boy" (?) seemed under powered. It seemed that way during the preview I saw, so I doubt it's to do with him being bored of the role.

I do wonder what they're doing with the stage/set - I notice the premium priced seats are a bit higher in the auditorium than usual (compared to what theatremonkey suggests), so I suspect a high stage.

I was going to ask, are those £5 seats (£10 in the main part of the run) likely to be okay? I guess they're really off to the side, so you get the sides/backs of people a lot, but could they be worse than that?

To be honest, if it were going to close because of low sales, it would have done so by now. I'm sure they'll see out the run.

It's a shame people are reporting it's still ridiculously hot in there. The day I went was a very warm day, so I was expecting it to be hot - but it hasn't even been that warm the last few days. I was considering going back to see the show again, seeing how I feel about it without the weight of years of expectations on it, but less sure now.

As I said in its thread, I thought the Aladdin set was very poor, aside from the cavern scene where they've clearly spent all the money.
And to echo The Nether - excellent set, extremely effective.

I know they never fully got it to work narratively, but Now That I've Seen Her from Miss Saigon is an excellent song, and Maybe isn't a patch on it. I also really like Too Much For One Heart, cut from the original production, though Please is a good replacement as it advances the story more.

If the difference between a quick wee and a quick wee with a hand wash is minimal, then may I suggest you are not washing your hands as thoroughly as someone who is (presumably) in a big city full of people probably should. I'm not saying everyone has to do hospital washing, but in the time it takes to damp your hands, apply soap, lather it up, rinse it off, and maybe dry them too, someone else could have had a quick wee and the queue would be moving that bit faster. I like cubicles with included sinks (useful for not only cleaning the clothes you have on in an emergency, but also if you are a lady who uses less traditional but more eco-friendly sanitary equipment), but they definitely shouldn't be the norm. The bit that seems to take the time is often the drying using the hand-dryer. The new mens loos at Gatwick has separate 'cubicles' for urinals (they're not really cubicles as they don't have a door, but, like, an alcove) where there's a urinal, with a sink and dryer next to it. It's very frustrating, as you end up having to wait to go for a wee while someone is stood next to the urinal washing their hands and drying them.

I think it is actually really interesting finding out who the younger ones on here are... it actually makes a lot of things a lot clearer if some people understand my meaning? On another note, anyone can come up to me at the theatre and say hi, I don't mind! I'm a hoot... but I cry at most shows. So if sat next to me, please have that shoulder ready to be cried on. Other Dan had a lucky escape! I wish we'd done this thread before I sat next to you at Titanic! I'm also liking this thread because I seem to be getting called young...

Also great to have a 4 piece band. My only complaint is that they should really mike the cast, there were moments where solos were drowned by the band. Is it particularly expensive? They do it at Southwark Playhouse and the Menier. I noticed the band by the entrance on the way in (stage right), so deliberately went and sat on the far side, because I was worried about the cast being drowned if I was sat right by the band. I think it was a wise choice, even there, there were parts where I struggled to hear the singing (mainly the leads (and mainly the guy playing Father) in the ensemble numbers)

Saw the show tonight, and agree with the poster above - so hot in there! I was very disappointed when the actor playing Adam had to put on some clothes, and I'm sure he was too. Very good version of a good, but flawed show. I absolutely adore Children of Eden, but accept that it's an uneven show - the first ten minutes are very silly, and suffer in this production without the big stage-show a West End stage and budget would bring. But other than that, it's great. Key scenes are staged perfectly, and the cast are, in general, very good. The standout is undoubtedly Natasha O'Brien at Eve and Mama Noah, who is a total eye-magnet, full of charisma, a brilliant singer and totally believable in both her roles. Theatre was about two-thirds full tonight - I do hope it's selling well enough for the rest of the run. Highly recommended, do go and see it
