If you are someone who may need to be contacted and absolutely must check your phone Limited to medical professionals on 24/7 call. Also military and politicians. Can't think of any others. People who work in fundraising who need to monitor year-end donations on New Year's Eve. I know because I used to. But in pretty much all examples, you know when you have time off, and if you're into theatre enough, you'll find a time to carve out and go. And you know when to NOT go.

I think some of the criticism of Carrie here is a little unfair. She is a talented vocalist and performer, she’s been doing theatre since she was little. And if you find her YouTube videos irritating -just don’t watch them! But how would you know without watching...?

Just booked tickets to see this in a few weeks. Was put in charge of buying theatre tickets for our group and finally plumped for this owing to the good word of mouth and Tony noms. I’ve since found out that the rest of the group have never seen the film. Is it easy to understand without prior knowledge of the film? I saw it with two friends — one had never seen the film and one had seen it many times. The first friend said she only got confused when people knowingly laughed at quotes from the movie, but then she realized they were laughing or cheering for the familiarity of it. Also: US tour next year! broadway.news/2018/05/11/mean-girls-launch-national-tour-fall-2019/

Yep. I've seen it on tour and regionally since, and that hasn't changed.

Maybe he's currently in a contract he can't get out of to start with everyone else? And/or he's overseas?

This is very good: exeuntnyc.com/features/whats-wrong-with-brand-name-art/Of course, SpongeBob’s message is a simple one (I’d argue the premise of The Band’s Visit is as basic) but how the show communicates this message is the art and here there are ample creative choices to dig into and discuss. Director Tina Landau builds the show up in smart, strategic, colorful, and inventive ways playing on its cartoon background but finding a stage language that is fitting. Though it is clearly expensive and well-budgeted it never feels like she’s needlessly throwing money at problems. Instead, each song and scenario strengthens the characters and their universe. In some large-scale musicals, you get the sense some directors substitute their lack of ideas with loudness or frivolity or frenetic action which may not actually be moving the story forward. My take on Kinky Boots was whenever there was a low energy dip the instruction was to send out more drag queens whether that made any sense or not. SpongeBob could have turned into the shouty, punch-you-in-your-face, unsubtle, sparkly, seizure-inducing nightmare of Aladdin. It’s not.

Stupid comparison/example. Completely agree with James. Grizabella takes a ride on a tire.

^ Yes. They're quite mad LOL There's a big "OMG I'm so excited" buzz overtime I see a Broadway show. It's more like a celebration over there. The Manager sounds defensive and kind of full of it. You were right. I might try to squeeze it in my trip. I enjoyed it enough with Midler, but only the musical scenes. I found the dialogue and book scenes just too old school and slapstick. The audience's reaction to the "humor" was a like OTT and the laughter didn't justify the humor happening. I hate it when the audience turn themselves into the show. My (American) roommate was annoyed that people were so loud in their excitement for anything Glenn Close did in Sunset Boulevard. He found it very demonstrative. I didn't, but I can see where he's coming from. The night I saw Hello Dolly, the cheering seemed genuine, but also because it was one of Donna Murphy's first performances, and there were a LOT of friends of the cast there. They were genuinely happy for their friends. I do enjoy the sense of community you get when everyone is bubbling with excitement.

They often give the role of Cosette to someone fresh out of training with no professional experience. Given that it's a principal role in the biggest show on the West End, why do you think that is? Because they can pay graduates less money! DING

Even if you do get spoiled, the enjoyment can be found in the process of getting to that spoiler — but ok, we all have different preferences!

I haven't and I was planning on it but will now postpone it until I forget the spoilers. Not everybody on the board is from the UK. Yes, because Wicked is UK-exclusive and wasn't a book for several years before that.

If you're going to stunt-cast anyone, why Enjolras? I did hear a semi-credible rumor that Aaron Tveit and Eddie Redmayne would BOTH join the West End cast in 2013, but obviously that never happened. That'd be how you'd stunt-cast Enjolras — paired-up.

It's infuriating reading that some of you are only discovering anything about Kelli O'Hara just now. “Infuriating”? Why? How dare anyone find out about something later than another person!

My work involves knowing a lot of what's going on online in various retail spaces and in pop culture, so they barely block anything. Pretty great!

What a lazy piece of programming. No doubt it’ll be a money spinner, but what with Weird Al Jankovic’s polka version,so many other spoofs of this show on You Tube and even my kid’s school doiing their own parody of it, it would have been great to see something a bit more exciting or original in this theatre for the summer. No doubt the Les Mis revolve and Annie will turn up in this somewhere too. Personally I’ve seen enough versions of Forbidden Broadway to last me a lifetime. I do enjoy FB but not at MCF prices! Also I’m not sure I want two hours of Hamilton jokes, I wasn’t enamoured by the show so do I want a fullly staged parody of it ? No! That's not really quite what it is, but ok.

Good news indeed. Just downloaded the CD and half way through it. There is enough non Hamilton material in it to please musical theatre fans who have not seen or heard Hamilton. The last 2 Forbidden Broadway shows were some of my favourite shows at the Menier. Would be great if they could get Anna Jane Casey, Sophie Louise Dann and Damian Humbley back again for this one. Won't all the cast have to be non-white though, if it's a Hamilton parody? Otherwise presumably there will be another round of charges of racism a la WSS. Also Anna-Jane Casey will be busy with Calendar Girls & I'm not sure I can imagine Sophie-Louise Dann or Damian Humbley doing rap songs. The entire New York cast was POC except the rotating "Diva" role, although I think sometimes she was a POC. She was kind of there to appease the OG Forbidden Broadway crowd and to give the show a bit of a break from being 100% a Hamilton parody.

I saw this somewhat early in the run here in NYC and it was obvious Alessandrini struggles much more with hip-hop rhythms and lyrics than with traditional musical theatre, but it wasn't a bad show — just not a great one. And it didn't feel as fun as Forbidden Broadway.
