A show doesn't need to sell out every performance to make a profit. No but it needs to sell a large number of seats at full price. If a show is busy, but with heavily discounted tickets, it will still be struggling to break even.

Cats in Vienna closed as well I see Ronacher (and Raimund) doesn't have shows in indefinite runs. Hunchback was announced a while ago, so I don't think Cats closing means anything. iirc, its initial run was extended due to Covid, after opening in 2019.

I would think The Drifters Girl wouldn’t play that long as well and I be surprised if it see 2023.

It’ll be interesting to see how the show fares without Beverley, although she has strongly hinted that she’ll be returning to the Drifters Girl at some point, but I guess that doesn’t necessarily mean in the west end.

I really hope Drifters Girl can keep going without Beverley. Yes she’s amazing in it and I’d assume her name helps sell tickets, but the four male leads are all incredible and deserving of a continued run - even if only to reach the 1 year point when I assume contracts end/renew.
Having said that I’ve been seeing pretty hefty discounted offers for it for July dates, but they were doing offers when Beverley was still in it, and of course as this thread points out, pretty much every show is discounting at the moment.

I know there are plenty of covers too but a cast of 6 and small band must keep running costs down. Not the most desirable theatre either (not like Adelphi which always seems to have vultures circling).
