I think when it went on tour last year, it sold much much better than was initially expected, even with the stunt casting. So I wouldn't be surprised if the pricing is based on anticipation of high demand for the show itself. I wouldn't be surprised if a casting announcement coincides with some price increases.
That said, given that it opens in a relatively short amount of time, I am surprised that the prices aren't more reasonable in the opening weeks, to ensure that it opens to full houses.

ATG have put the booking fee up to £3.65 for this one - guessing their other shows will follow suit. Prices Monday to Friday run £125 / £95 premium (D to K stalls), £72.50, £62.50 (back 3 rows), £52.50 (end 2s in B to L) in the stalls, same in the dress circle (only row K is £52.50) and upper circle is £52.50, £42.50 rows A and G, £32.50 H, £20 J. Saturday both is £150, £125, £79.50, £67.50, £57.50, £47.50, £39.50, £25. A lot more central stalls held off for "dynamic" I'd guess. Stalls row AA is held off... wondering about day seats there... Wow!!!! They are pretty steep. Let’s hope they do dayseats and we can all see for 25 pounds.

It is a great musical but I was never a fan of this production. I always thought it was semi-staged before that became in vogue. I called it almost a staged concert version even with the superb Ute Lemper and Ruthie Henshall in the original Adelphi revival cast! Band on stage, stairs, black portals. For those prices I would expect Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger! Perhaps they are lining up a big name? But if it is some ex-soap star then it will have to be heavily discounted. Perhaps they will cast the lovely Debbie McGee!! What are you talking about? That's the whole point. It was completely semi-staged. It derived from the Encores! concert book-in-hand production in New York which transferred to Broadway and then to London.

I feel the same way about actor/musician shows where mostly it is about cutting production costs rather than artistic choices where again full musical theatre prices are charged. I always feel a bit ripped off!

Emma Hatton is doing a gig at the Hippodrome Casino next week and she's said on Facebook "I'll be announcing my next job" at the concert. Just wondering if it could be Roxie or Velma with the other celebrity-cast? I can see her more as a Velma. Just an idea but I'm probably completely wrong!

They are going to want to make a splash for the first 4-5 months of this run...I am thinking that they would be wise to cast big names for Roxie/Velma and Billy. Emma Hatton, while very talented, isn't one to draw the punters in...
I still think Nicole Scherzinger is the ticket for Velma...

You're right of course but they might risk star-casting one leading lady and theatre cast the other, as mentioned upthread the tour sold well without a celebrity name as Velma. Would expect big names at the prices they're charging though.

They need to announce casting soon as it doesn’t seem to be selling that well

I'm not really surprised it isn't a hot ticket so far. It possibly feels a bit old hat to many at this stage.

They need to announce casting soon as it doesn’t seem to be selling that well And why would it? It was in the West End 5 years ago and played for close to 15 years. The quality went way down hill the longer the run went on and it certainly wasnt the same show at the end that it was in the beginning. Even in New York, it's quite tired and relays heavily on unsuspecting tourists.

It would be a total coup if they bring back Ute and Ruthie in their original roles. Can they still pull it off?

My only knowlage is the film too, though I know in the stage show he does sing "We Both Reached For The Gun" and "Razzle Dazzle" like in the film.

What a dream to see:- Anna Montanaro - Velma - was blown away at the Adelphi when I saw her Diane Langton - Mama Morton - wished I had seen And of course, we need Vanessa Leigh-Hicks to get the cast up to speed!

An Oscar winner, a smart move! If the leading ladies are of the same calibre then wow.

Charismatic and ruthless lawyer? I can see him do that well. Would never have guessed this casting but the more I think about the more potential I think it has. Has he ever done stage work before? I’ve only ever seen films/TV.

I'm sure he'll be fine, if not even pretty good/okay. But Chicago is Velma's and Roxie's show..this does not work out without two great leading ladies. Let's wait and see.

Fine. Sure. Now we want Velma and Roxie. That’s where this show could win us all over. Get two musical theatre powerhouses in. Hey, get a ‘celeb’ who can actually sing to Roxie and then a tour-de-force Velma and I’m in.

So Nicky Campbell didn’t get the role of Billy after his calling card at Xmas.
Big casting = big pans.

Let’s be grateful for them starting with that. He could’ve been some no-mark off of ‘Love Island’ (although that will come soon!). I think he’s spot on for that role.
