Nicole Scherzinger or Alexandra Burke would be great casting. Mica Paris would be a great Mama Morton.
Surprised they didn’t announce casting today so booking would pick up on Wednesday. They must announce it soon, probably new year, as it only opens in March. Hope it’s some great celebrity casting

On one hand, I do get the misgivings (to put it mildly) most of you have about Chicago's return, but on the other, I hope I'll get to see it again as it's both a wonderful show and a wonderful production when cast properly. I enjoyed it when I saw it years ago but it just became really gimmicky with the casting which seemed desperate. This talk about casting, whilst fun, has also slightly reminded me why I don't really want to see it come back to hog a good theatre. I loved The Exorcist personally so I'll be sorry to see it make way for Chicago. I just hope it gets to March 10th and completes its run. I think it deserves to.

Nicole Scherzinger must be delighted to know how many MT roles she gets hypothetically cast in, given that she’s only ever done a bit part in one musical where she sang one song. I'm fairness, she also did Rent at the Hollywood Bowl and sang Andrew Lloyd Webber on TV. She is on peoples radar so I'm not surprised she is Dreamcast alot. Not to mention for the most part she got great reviews for Cats and arguably she was the reason it was as successful as it was. So I'm nor surprised her name is brought up whenever star casting is.

And I totally agree that those things were successful. BUT she has not carried a long running musical (or a short running one for that matter), she has not done 7 perfs a week in a headlining role (one song in Cats and touring in the Dolls does not count) and she is unproven as an actress (unless anyone thinks those yoghurt ads are good). Yes, she might be great, I like her and Id like her to be amazing in something other than Muller Lite but I do think her name gets casually thrown into dream casts without much supporting evidence.

Or they could go real camp for Billy and get Michael Ball or Wayne Sleep? LOL Oh the jolly japes the person shoehorning Miss Ball into a pair of hot pants and fishnet stockings every night would have. One wrong move and he could take out the front half of the stalls. The gal's got class I'll give her that.* It would be worth the money though. That's what you have a premium priced seat for Miss Cameron Mackintosh. * See what I did there? I think they should cast two men as Roxie and Velma...it would be a new take on the show and perfect for a revival of a revival. Or they can do it inthe John Doyle style and have everyone play instruments. LMFAO Kimberly Walsh and Cher Lloyd. Sorted.

It just occurred to be that Hannah Waddingham would be a fierce Velma - though not sure she could dance it?

Could be worse, they could announce that Dirty Dancing is touring again.
I had a co-worker who went to New York recently and asked me “what about seeing Chicago, as he and his wife love the movie” I said to him “it’s a cheap to run tourist show, that pulls unexpected punters in from Times Square, the production qualities are low and you could see an exact replica of this show in Milton Keynes”, unfortunately he didn’t listen and was left dissapointed.
He then went down to Nashville and back to New York, where he caught Kinky Boots, which was the best show he has ever seen.

I love me some Beverley Knight but they cannot approach her to do this. She has given us no indication that she can dance (does the 6 minute beginning of Cats count?), and though they can always modify Roxy's dance bits as they have done for a dozen actresses, I don't think she's funny enough to pull it off. There is no dancing around Velma's choreography (get it?). Whoever plays Velma needs to be a very serious dancer to pull it off. Though Bev's All That Jazz could blow the roof off and she'd look hot in these costumes. You're right. And I don't think they ever stunt cast Velma in all the years it run in the West End

As much as I don't want to see Chicago returning so soon, I'm glad it's not Blood Brothers which people were calling to come back a few months back. Clearly ATG are desperate to fill the Phoenix since nothing since Once has lasted longer than a few months

I stumbled over that, too. My guess is that that was All about Eve with Cate Blanchett, which has gone completely quiet. They had a few options, as far as I know – at one point they almost secured Jake Gyllenhaal in SITPWG. And yet here we are. I WOULD'VE SOLD MY SOUL TO SEE THE LATEST SITPWG REVIVAL! god I hope is revived somewhere here soon!

Whhhhy Goood Whhhy
oh wait that's another show...but seriously, by all means tour it to death but we only just got rid of the damn thing. Don't get me wrong in its day Chicago was a brilliant and innovative piece of musical theatre, but let's give it a break and bring it back when it really is missed.

Money on Louise Redknapp? Very confident of them to say a year "initially". Louise Redknapp is so last year. There's another pop singer in the 'Strictly' final this year who might need some work and will want to show off her dance skills and all that jazz . . . I doubt it as she's signed up for the SCD tour.

Last seen being tortured in the dungeons of Kings Landing in 2016. Assumed dead as unseen, and new occupants moved in, this year.

Just no.
Spot the terrible , and the passable, celebs......
Don't they realise this is what killed the show last time?
The only way this would work would be if they redid the replay of former great actors in the two main roles they did in their last year in London - but a lot of those people are unavailable now - in Eastenders, New York, or something else.
There's plenty of great professionals from late in the last run who played Velma who probably can still play her.If they want to go younger, Lizzie Connolly might make one impressive, leggy Velma. Roxie needs someone who can act a psychopath in one of its forms. It doesn't need a TV star, it needs someone who can act a sweet or innocent looking, murderer, do cartwheels, stay with a very powerful singer, in the duets with Velma, dance, and who has a flexible neck.

Time to flood their Twitter account with names of past performers who weren't famous.
I'm sure they're fully aware how much their stars sucked and how far standards had fallen, but stunt casting worked for them. It got people to part with their money. Who cares if the performance is so dreadful they never come back? Over 99% of the audience would never come back anyway so what have they lost?

That Twitter ad is terrible and doesn't inspire much confidence in the returning show. It should be a first class production not a celebrity love - in like it was before. Puts me right off it!

I’d have put money on it being a Redknapp/Tamaddon type affair...maybe Honey G or Sam Bailey as Mama Morton although I’m expecting her to get a crack at Blood Brothers soon! 🙄

Sounds like Barry Weissler is taking the absolute Michael.
And, while I'm at it, ATG for that ludicrous ticket charge!

Monkey - a question for you, if you please....how is the center aisle seat in row C of the Phoenix? I'll be damned if I do premium for this show...
especially when the 3 words to describe the set are black, minimal, and chipped....
thanks!

Those prices are ridiculous - day seats or discounts for me - I'm not going to pay about 5 times the amount I did to see it on Broadway years ago!

It’s a bit of a cheek considering the set consists of a few black boxes and a ladder on wheels (which they’ll have to nab back from the Cabaret tour where it currently has a minor role).

It is a great musical but I was never a fan of this production. I always thought it was semi-staged before that became in vogue. I called it almost a staged concert version even with the superb Ute Lemper and Ruthie Henshall in the original Adelphi revival cast! Band on stage, stairs, black portals.
For those prices I would expect Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger! Perhaps they are lining up a big name? But if it is some ex-soap star then it will have to be heavily discounted. Perhaps they will cast the lovely Debbie McGee!!
