I caught one of Jack Wilcox's performances last night and he is very good indeed. He is more matinee idol than cheeky chappie which Charlie is. His vocals were excellent and his dancing great however Charlie really can't be beaten on the dancing front. If you didn't know who Charlie Stemp was then you wouldn't be disappointed not seeing him. The only other cast change was the couple playing the English comedy role. They weren't anywhere near as good as the other couple. Not full last night with quite a few empty seats. I noticed a few people moved from the far side dress circle further in just before the show started but an usher came and made them all move back which I thought was a bit petty. I think another Charlie show is due before Christmas for me and probably try and book for the last night.

The ushers there are very moany - someone moved about 30mins in and the dress circle was very empty and they ran over to shout at them!

I was expecting them to move in the interval but the usher must have put the fear of God in them as the all stayed in their original seats for the 2nd act.

Unless there´s a boss around which I doubt, utterly ridiculous. Surely they´d do the same if they weren´t working.

I think Jack Wilcox makes an excellent Bobby - not seen him as Bela but must be quite a feat being the standby/cover for both roles especially in the mirror scene - the concentration for the timing must be huge - kudos to him

Finally caught the show tonight - Jack, not Charlie. I loved it overall and he was a great Bobby, but I can’t help being a bit disappointed as I did want to see Charlie and I’m not sure if I’ll get the chance now. That said, there’s nothing whatsoever to fault in Jack’s performance and if I hadn’t known any different I’d never have realised he wasn’t the regular lead. Very charming onstage - the matinee idol thing is spot on. I’d like to see him in other roles sometime.
I was surprised how much of this show I recognised and remembered from the 1994 (or thereabouts) tour. Lots of the same choreography, which is to be expected I suppose! I think this could do well on tour again.

Does Charlie do matinees? Also, does anyone know where to get the best discounted tickets? I have heard people talk about great deals, but I'm not that clever in that area.

'Nothing' does well on tour? Really?! 🙄 Hamilton, Les Mis or Disney are doing fine. Otherwise stuff really isn't doing all that well on tour these days...

The days he is off are advertised on the LW Theatre website. As far as I know he does all performances unless he has holiday booked as he did on Monday and Tuesday just gone. As for offers I see lots on Facebook. Also try theatremonkey website as he lists offers for shows.

Hamilton is a unique show that will probably sell out on the road. Everything else isn’t selling as well as it would have years ago. It’s just a fact that the touring market is on its last legs.

May as well close all local theatres now then! 🤦♂️
Things not selling as well as before (unsurprising considering the current challenging times) and the entire touring circuit being on its last legs are two very different things.

I'm impressed that Crazy For You has managed to stay open this long. I still wonder if they might close a little early though.

Personally speaking, I now see far, far fewer shows in my local regional theatre than I would have years ago. This is because I have a finite amount to spend per year on theatre, and I prioritise the West End over touring stuff. If the West End was a bit more reasonable in terms of cost, I would have more to spend on touring shows closer to home.

At this point I doubt it, but producers are bleeding money over it I very much hope they have a boost in the show’s final month across the Christmas period. I know the story’s not Christmas-related but it does have that feel-good holiday show appeal.

If the West End was a bit more reasonable in terms of cost, I would have more to spend on touring shows closer to home. I don't see much local theatre down in Hampshire nowadays because there's barely any interesting plays or revivals touring our way anymore. Sure The Mayflower is well served with the big familiar musicals, but pre-covid there were more touring shows to take your pick. You have to go further to Chichester, Bath, or the Watermill Theatre, the leading producing UK theatres, for anything interesting. Otherwise there's the occasional short run of a small-scale touring production amongst endless tribute acts, stand up comedians, an evening with someone mildly famous, children's shows etc. It's sad that the Nuffield Theatre closed (leaving behind the MAST studios that is in the same rut) and all Salisbury Playhouse could muster up themselves this autumn is a revival of Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, when they used to be a reliable venue for a variety of revivals. My interest only perked up to see London Classic Theatre is bringing Brien Friel's Faith Healer to Winchester next month. Of course we have local amateur companies who can put on the familiar musicals and plays. So whether financially the touring landscape is dying, I'll leave it to others to explain. But looking around at the local receiving theatres in my area I'm not surprised if so.

Is this legit? Sorry, I have never booked tickets on other websites than the official ones and todaytix.

Yes, both are perfectly legitimate. Theatremonkey has a reputation second to none, and Love Theatre is a subsiduary of ATG. On this occassion, you can book with complete confidence.
