Hadn’t watched Neighbours for decades, but watched the final episode as it’s the end of an era. With no emotional attachment I didn’t shed any tears, but then Madge Bishop appeared sitting at that table and I had a lump in my throat!

My only small niggle was actually Jason and Kylie. I totally appreciate they are the most famous to be linked with Neighbours but compared to others, it seemed like a cameo totally separate to the episode. I felt like I was watching Jason and Kylie, not Scott and Charlene. There was a bit of a can't do right for doing wrong there IMO. If they'd tried to integrate them more fully into the script there would have been complaints that they were pulling focus from the current cast and other old-timers. But if they'd just appeared in a video call along the lines of the other cameos, people would have felt short-changed. They could have had them coming to visit Paul (or Harrold of Shane of Jane) earlier in the week, but surely they'd have known that Mike and his daughter were back in town, so they'd have blabbed. Even if they'd appeared after he'd bumped into Jane they would have got in the way of their reconnection. I realise I'm putting more emphasis than is usually required in realistic behaviour for soap characters. Travelling thousands of miles to see people without telling them you are coming so there can be a surprise seems standard. It was bad enough having me wondering where they parked their car and what they were doing while the street party was being set up. My biggest complaint was that while certain scenes were filmed to tease then reveal (such as Mike on his bike), the 'coming up next' clips gave too much away.

Can I just repeat… Holly Valance. Big childhood crush was Flick, and a darned good one if I say so myself! Young me had taste.
Now she is married to a billionaire.
I found a fiver under the sofa?

There's a bit in The Metro that puts the numbers of viewers at 2.5 million. What have recent viewing figures been like, for context?

Kylie and Jason only had scenes with Jane, Paul, Mike, Harold and Des I think whilst Guy Pearce did scenes with a lot more of the cast.
It was a sentimental ending and nice to see Jane get happiness as she was my first Neighbours crush.
They could have done a big ending with Paul getting his cumuppence or getting away with one more trick but they played it safe.
Strange they never had Jason's real life daughter return as he was her character's great uncle in the show and being on screen with his daughter would surely have been a big pull to get Jason back.
No Sheila so did the actress who played her have a falling out given her abrupt departure earlier in the year. A video message from Lou would have been nice but Tom Oliver who plays him retired from acting in 16/17 and may have been happy with his departure then. Plus is well into his 80's now.

Guy Pearce pretty obviously wasn't on set at the same time as Kylie and Jason. They cobbled together a scene with a body double to make it look like they were hugging, and stuck him at the end of the balcony when they panned along. If they'd all been present it would surely have looked much better than what eventually aired.

It has now been confirmed that channel 5 viewing figures for the final were 4.02 million once recordings and catch-up were taken into account. It was the most watched show of the week on 5.

Apparently Tom Oliver was too ill to take part, but the envelope to the solicitor was addressed to a T Oliver as a nod to his involvement.

This is so weird. Surely they won't be able to reunite the cast? Won't the sets have been removed? I remember the owners of the houses on the news talking about how relieved they were that it was over!

I remember the owners of the houses on the news talking about how relieved they were that it was over! Maybe not all of the cast but I’d imagine a good majority would be happy to return if asked. Sets might be in storage so can easily be brought out and if there’s money involved I’m sure the home owners will be tempted (or if not, they could build sets, use new houses, old footage etc). I’m looking forward to seeing what they do 😊

I'm pretty sure Amazon will have no problem building a few new cheap sets, it's not like they're strapped for cash

Looking forward to this

Dare I say, the cast of soaps don't always leave one and find themselves rolling in other acting work. I expect many will be keen to come back.
It is interesting that Amazon haven't announced what format the new version of the show will take. Is it going to continue in the daily format, or might they go for one longer episode a week, or turn this into drama seasons?

I suspect it'll follow the model of Judy Justice of multiple episodes a week. If I was being cynical, I suspect by cancelling the series, Fremantle were able to void any existing contracts so any new contracts will likely be less expensive.

Do you not remember the looks of houses inside changing magically during a break pretty regualrly? How many times did the pub/shop/cafe/etc go through a refurb?

I was wondering this - the announcement says "new series" so this implies it will be different to the usual soaps, which are on regularly and open ended. A slightly different format, like a drama series, could make a nice change and enable them to run storylines differently to the past. Will be good to see which older episodes are put up for streaming too.

I'd love to see some old Scott and Charlene episodes.
