My husband wants our son (13 years old) to go to his barbers for his haircuts from now on but I think he should keep going to my hairdressers because she knows how to do it properly.
Who’s right here because we’ve had a argument about it? What do your teen son’s do?
My sons hair is slightly longer than most boys hair so that’s also another reason why I think my hairdresser should keep on doing it

He's more than ready for a trip to the barbers but might be time to trust the lad with a little responsibility - to choose what he wants. The key, though, is to not make it seem like he's choosing between parents. Responsibility is good.

Definitely the barbers. Regardless of hair length, which all barbers will be able to cut, he's getting to the age where going to the barbers almost becomes a rite of passage. Of course he might want to stay at the hairdressers, but most young boys wouldn't want mum cramping their style having to go with her.

I'm 25 and I go to my mother's hairdresser every time I go home because they cut my hair better than anywhere else I've ever been. When I was 8 I went to my father's barber twice, but no one liked the result so I just kept going to my mother's hairdresser afterwards. Maybe you can send him to your husband's barber for a trim, so if neither you nor your son like the result you'll have a valid reason not to send him back in the future

Maybe ask him what he wants to do? He's old enough to make that decision for himself.
For the past few years I went to a typical hairdressers and enjoyed having my cuppa tea and biscuits and chatting with the "girls". When I moved back down to London I have a barbers just along from me so go there now.

I would always leave unhappy. On the rare occasions they cut my hair well I was never guaranteed to have that same barber again, unless I was prepared to wait even longer for them. Salons tend to hire staff with a broader range of skills, I’ve found, plus you can always book in with the same stylist each time. I’d be tempted to him to the barber and then see how he feels after. A bad haircut only lasts for a few days and then he can say what he’d prefer after experiencing both. |

He’s not sure if he would prefer the hairdressers or Barbers but he usually agrees with me on most things. But I also don’t want him to feel like he can’t have his own opinion on things if you get what I mean |

I am trying to get a range of opinions Sounds like you're just posting everywhere you can think of until someone agrees with you. Let the kid choose - you don't control his life and the more you try to control things like this that don't matter, the more it will probably backfire on you later. |

And learn the skill of knowing his place in the queue no matter how many people are there, along with the nervousness of the person in front of him saying "you can go next" and sitting there wondering what that person knows about this barber that made them decide they'd rather wait for someone else.

To me, it depends mostly if it’s a style for clippers or scissors. Very little difference in pricing where I am in London, but that could be a consideration.

Let him decide. (When I was a little younger than him, my dad took me to his barber [I'm a girl, but had relatively short hair]. Looking back, I'm surprised Mom went along with it, but I enjoyed the bonding time with Dad.)
Or if he can get to both locations on his own, give him the money and let him vote with his feet. (And don't ask him which he chose.)

My teenage sons both had a favourite barbers in our village (not the same), and now the youngest has longer hair and is planning on going to my wifes hairdresser to have it shaped properly. But that has been his decision and not ours.

There are a lot of things that I’m delighted not to think about through not having children but I had never considered the social etiquette of a barbers as part of that!
