I am just out of a performance of ALICE’S ADVENTURES UNDER GROUND. Has anyone else been to see this?
It is utterly bonkers, and I didn’t have a clue what was happening most of the time. Ultimately, I am not sure what to make if it. I did over hear one person saying that it was the most inaccessible music they had ever heard, but I do not necessarily agree with that, as there is a lot to enjoy.
The production is gorgeous though. The costumes are beautiful, and so too is the scenery and projection.
The cast deliver the material with lots of energy, and they are clearly having a lot of fun.

Enjoyed what I could hear of it: I was in the amphitheatre, and there were lots of very young children (ounger than the Royal Opera's minimum age of 5) screaming and crying. Plus quite a few parents who felt the need to narrate what was happening to their little darlings. This drowned out what was happening on stage at times.
Appreciate this is not necessarily a reasonable complaint given the opera was marketed at families!

I love this adaptation of alice, and all seems clear to me. I love that they don't shy from the darker aspects such as Pig and Pepper. And the music to me is ravishing, and it's all so gorgeous to look at. one of the best Alice's. Compare this to the leaden version we had at the National a while back.
