Just got an email saying Dress Circle seats are down from 90 to 50 with promo code TIPTOP. Just got the e mail too. I don't know the musical. Worth a £50 punt?

Rachel Tucker belting a score made famous by Stephanie J Block? Yeah, I'd say go for it

If this didn't clash with Zorro, and wasn't through the roof, then as said above I'd already have tickets by now!

Are there STILL no discounts for this As others have said, loads of rear / side dress down from £90 to £50 with offers. I sat there for both Sweeney and Bat, and the view is fine. I concur! (And am slightly annoyed to have already coughed up 90 quid for the privilege ;-))

See if you can listen to the score before buying. I saw the show, have the CD and don't think I've listened to it since i bought it. Still, it is for charity...

Theres a couple of really nice numbers in the show two strong ballads and two beautiful duets however for me the rest of score was terrible. But i still want to go as it may work in context of the show. However i'm not a fan of sitting anywhere apart from the stalls so hoping out for the stalls to be reduced

I bought the CD years ago, purely as love Les Mis, Saigon and 2/3 of Martin Guerre.
It's ok. A few trademark lovely ballads but a lot of bland stuff. And much of it Gaelic inspired. Which isn't a style I like anyway (really don't like the Come From Away score for example).
TBO I wouldn't be going if was from different authors. But Les Mis and Saigon have given me so much pleasure over and over for 30 odd years; so feel I should see this the once, just to see how it sounds/works live. And the CD is pleasant enough. Just a bit unremarkable.
To complete the set, I wonder if we'll one day get a performance of La Revolution Francaise in England. I don't think it's ever been translated into English so probs not....

EP has just played Rachel Tucker's version of "Woman".
I'm not sure it's the kind of song you'd listen to over and over but Rachel sings it beautifully.

See this cast is now enough to sway me to go see it over Zorro.
But they need to lower their prices still, as I don't really want to pay more than £25...

There are still at least 50% of tickets left for Pirate Queen from what I can see, and although there is a deal on London Theatre Direct for £108 tickets for £50, that's only rear dress circle (although there is hardly anything sold in the dress circle, so maybe that will help). They'll have to start giving heavy discounts soon won't they? It's only two and half weeks away! I'm drawn to this for Rachel Tucker but have only heard one song, Woman, sung by SJB and don't know anything more about it so definitely won't be shelling out the big bucks.

They are gradually changing more of the tickets in the upper circle to £35, so I won't begrudge if I can pick up a £70 or a £90 for £35 in a few days time. Worth keeping an eye on for people who are holding out.

Broadwayworld has just released a video of Rachel performing the song Woman in rehearsals. She really seems to be struggling with the vocals compared to Stephanie J Block. I know it’s difficult to compare them however it just seems Rachel is so miscast in this

People said that about her Me and the Sky when the first video was released and then she proceeded on delivering the best version of the song that had ever been sung. When I saw it in previews it was certainly a fine performance but it was a long way off flawless. I think the sensible point of view is that you can't judge a performance on the basis of rehearsal footage. In the Broadwayworld video for this, she's not nailing the placement on some of her high notes but it's still an impressive performance, and it's not the finished article. SJB's voice is an actual force of nature, I'm not sure anyone would be beat her in a sing-off, but Rachel Tucker is a fantastic West End performer and I'd be excited to see her in this if only I could afford to buy a ticket...

I’m in the underwhelmed camp I’m afraid, just as I was seeing her in CFA. Lovely performance but I found the big vocal I’d been expecting to be sadly lacking, and replaced by a quite thin strained sound.

I *so* want to see this after seeing the rehearsal video but am holding off to see if there are some bigger discounts. Even the tickets discounted over 50% to £50 are a bit rich for my blood but I will do it if nothing better emerges. When I was at the Coliseum for Sweeney Todd with Bryn Terfal and Emma Thompson, paying £70ish for a seat in which I could barely see or hear, I vowed never to go back so i’m wary about what you actually actually get for your money.

Earlier in this thread, I commented that Rachel really seemed to be struggling with this song (that was after hearing the version that EP played on the radio). In the rehearsal video, I was much more convinced by her performance. Yes, there are probably some tweaks to make to the performance, but I thought it was a significantly better version than the first one I heard. Incidentally, does anyone know where and when the version EP played was recorded?

Out of interest, where did you sit? I've only ever sat front stalls in the Coliseum so I'm keen to avoid anywhere rubbish!

My recollection is that everyone in front of me was leaning right forward so I could barely see the stage and the sound was terrible. Can’t believe I paid what I did but it was supposed to be a really special one off. I was so angry by the end and haven’t been back since but Rachel T and Hannah W are luring me in!

Currently the rear dress circle is available through WhatsOnStage for £50 but I'm tempted to keep holding out. A lot of the stalls is still empty so surely they'll look to discount that soon otherwise it'll just look weird!
