I'm also there on September 5th - it's Media Night for the new cast so hopefully they'll all be on and in fine voice How come the media night is almost 2 months after the new cast started?

Even though the show is running, having press night a couple of months in this like when a new show is reviewed on its press night, with a series of prefiews beforehand. It gives the performers a chance to settle and get their performances settled in and locked in. I wasn't aware it was press night, so I'm looking forward to it even more now. I'm expecting alot from Alice, Sophie and Bradley based on the buzz from the superfans on twitter, so I hope they don't dissapoint!

The last one was in March (6ish weeks after cast change) so I guess this is similar amount of time after the most recent change. It gives the cast time to bed in before the press come along to review it.

It'll be lucky number 19th time seeing the show for me, I must say I am rather excited... my 8th Elphaba and 6th Glinda and Fiyero respectively (even if the leads are off, all the previous performers I have seen have left, so it will be a completely new leading trio regardless haha).

Never heard that name... usually follow suit with the Broadway production of calling them just the "tight, white pants" hahaha.

Oh I have no doubt she is even better live as with all of the actresses (pretty much!) who have played the role. I am merely commenting on what seems to be someone who has a great voice but goes so out there with the vocals in terms of riffs, growling at every performance, eventually it will catch up with her and her vocal cords, which I don't want to see happen. She didn't growl once on Friday.

I'd look in the terms and conditions, you may be able to apply for a refund.

I too am going again in September and I'll judge properly then. As the topic is up though, I've also been a bit concerned by the audios I've heard of the new cast. Obviously, sketchy audios compare to the real thing as much as listening to a man with a persistant cough describe a sunset. But then I've seen the audios that are out there raved over, so I don't know.
I'm not going to fully go into it till I've seen it for myself but aside from some positive points (the acting in the quiet numbers seems really good!) I worry if the desire to establish themselves is making some of the cast over stretch? These are great performers individually with nothing to prove in a show that's not going anywhere, it's a safe job. I'd rather hear it done well, to score, until the cast gel together a bit more, and they can put their own stamp on it rather than showing they can do riffs like someone else from earlier.
And that goes for anyone in the role of just about any musical, really. But with the caveat that this is exactly why performers hate audios and I agree that basing an opinion on them is unfair so I shouldn't, and I look forward to being delighted later in September

But then I've seen the audios that are out there raved over, so I don't know. ALL Wicked audios are raved over. If there was an audio of Alice breathing it would be "OMG the best breathing I've EVER heard! I died! Breathe, Queen!"

If there was an audio of Alice breathing it would be "OMG the best breathing I've EVER heard! I died! Breathe, Queen!" It's ridiculous. There is a video doing the rounds of Laura Pick - who is chief among the many deeply average and unremarkable women to play the role - and the hysteria over it is laughable. Wish these kids could have a blast of Idina in 2006.

That's a bit unfair, given she's only done three shows!

In truth though, I we were basing it solely in the vocals on audios alone, I'd be more compelled to see Laura than Alice. That's based purely on who I think sounds better, again just based on audio. Live will likely change that as I know Alice has a good voice live.

That's a bit unfair, given she's only done three shows! Maybe so. But on her third performance, she read the lines, sung the notes and stood where she needed to be. Nothing more, nothing less. That said, I realise it's Wicked and not Shakespeare.

When the new Boq (Jack Lansbury) is the performance you are most excited to see next week, says something.

It's Alice's 100th Elphaba show tonight, so a(nother) perfect opportunity to run to the stage door with baked goods!

Whilst some of the fans can be 'obsessive' some times, this is a nice touch to mark the milestone.

There is actually a fan who is counting her perfomances? From when she was a Standby to now?
So much to say, so much to say.

You must admit, the current batch of stalker-esque tween "superfans" do provide this board with a lot of its amusing content, would we have a Jackie Hughes nutella in-joke without them?
