My bathroom has thawed out at last.
I went out today. The roads are completely clear once out of the residential areas but strangely quiet, and it felt more like early on a Sunday morning than a Saturday. I think most people must be looking out their windows and seeing streets full of snow and assuming it's like that everywhere. The snow was bad on my street — when I went to the car there was someone with a shovel clearing a section so a car could get up the hill — but once I was on to the through routes everything was fine.

They are talking about exchanging tickets for other shows though, but understandably need to investigate the logistics of that. But some people can make the show today, so why should they be penalised because others can’t? Well if I'm wrong I'm wrong. I was reading (a couple of hours ago so maybe they changed their minds) that they were keeping their strict no refunds or exchanges policy. I got this from friends who had rung them, who couldn't get there because of the snow, not the article above. But if they've changed their stance then good on them. I think it's a bit strong suggesting I was 'penalizing' those who can get there...I was only criticizing the stance of not offering exchanges for those who couldn't given the extenuating circumstances.

The complaint seems to be that the show has not been cancelled. That’s what’s people think should have happened. Tickets would then have been refunded, but as the show is going ahead they won’t be refunded. My comment about people being penalised related to that. Why should the show be cancelled when there are people who *can* get there?

Not always very high value in terms of ticket yield or donations

Looks like they are going to be flexible but haven't quite worked out the details yet

Why should the show be cancelled when there are people who *can* get there? Where on earth did I say the show should have been cancelled? All I have commented on is that the theatre should try and be more accommodating with refund/exchange policy. As long as it's safe to do so then of course they should go ahead with the show.

Why should the show be cancelled when there are people who *can* get there? Well, if the police are advising the public only to travel if absolutely necessary, that would seem to be a fairly compelling reason.

I like the Kate Bush album Fifty Words For Snow but I can only play it when it’s actually snowing.
Same as December Will Be Magic... I can only play that in your actual December.

Overkill by First Great Western who decided to keep the Gatwick - Reading route closed for a second day despite the forecast thaw and other train operating companies' services (Southern and SWT) whizzing busily round the area. So another epic journey for me, as it took all day just to go to and from a matinee. And we didn't get much respite from one sort of bad weather before the next set in: as I entered the theatre the thaw was well under way but there was still plenty of snow to be seen, whereas I emerged a few hours later into the heavy rain which had been predicted to follow. So I suppose this will be another year when winter hangs around unduly, meaning we don't get spring but go straight into summer in due course...

We have light rain this morning, so the snow will probably be gone by the morning.
News reporters that spent all last week standing by closed motorways will spend all next week standing by flooded rivers!

I so wish we still had public information films. Every time there is severe weather people die trying to rescue dogs that have jumped into frozen water, high seas or flooded rivers. They were made by the Central Office of Information that was shut down in 2011, in what I can only assume was the spirit of Harry Lime - hey, we're saving money - do we really care if a few dots stop moving?

Snow still all over (we had the last lot this morning) and now we're in the thickest of fogs. My place looks over the valley here and visibility can be no more than about 25 metres.
On weird Scandinavian shows; if anyone thinks that Fortitude gets weird, try the Swedish show Jordskott - missing children, parasites and sundry mythical creatures - not your normal police procedural.

Jordskott is well and truly weird, enjoyable , but I just couldn’t watch the second series, I think it lost surprise and therefore interest for me. Midnight Sun (Swedish/French) and Valkyrien (Norwegian) were both weird to the point of being barking, but much better than Jordskott in my opinion. Babylon-Berlin though (German) how atmospheric and stylish was that series? Even had Brian Ferry in it .

Ages old now but, for a medical set show, Von Trier's pre-Scandi Noir Danish success The Kingdom took some beating. I'll also proffer another couple of bonkers but great shows, the Aussie 'The Kettering Incident' and American 'The OA' (written by and starring the brilliant Brit Marling). If you like your drama to go well off the beaten path of realism then give them a try. Both of them have second series supposedly coming up. (Now the sun's gone I am literally struggling to see onto the next street it's that murky, really atmospheric stuff!)

The lamp post outside my house just went out and power spikes have shut down my computer twice, I’m starting to think in my own neo-noir!

I can't believe you'd all mispronounce "scone" in such a way that deprives you of fully appreciating the punchline to "what's the fastest cake in the world?" S'gone!
