It was a close one! Eligibility for the Olivier Awards just gone was 17th Feb 2016 - 21st Feb 2017. Who's Afraid...started previews on 22nd Feb 2017, with its official opening at the beginning of March 2017, so it'll be considered for the 2018 Olivier Awards, with eligibility dates being presumably 22nd Feb 2017 - 20-something Feb 2018.
If I were a producer who wanted to improve Hill's odds though, I'd argue that Martha is the true lead and George is definitely supporting, if only to get Hill in a category that didn't involve either of the Andrews.
True but George has always been classed as a leading role at the Tonys and the Oscars.

I'm calling it now, Audra deserves the win for her performance in Lady Day. It is one of, if not the best, performance by an actress I have ever seen. It's her West End debut and for that to be her debut, I think it will put her right at the forefront of peoples minds and rightly so.
Her main competition will be Imelda, who I saw in the NT Live screening with Virginia Woolf and she was brilliant too. It will ultimately come down to do we honour Imelda doing what she does best or honour Audra who gives a transformative performance, a stunning West End debut and an overall brilliant performance.
