Watching the stream confirmed the impression I had when I saw the show live - the second act is so much stronger than the first one. I've found it really hard to care for the two leading couples, especially Warden and Karen. It DOES have some lovely songs though and overall a strong plot. With some major rewrites and tightening up the first act, I could see it have a second chance.
For me it was part of that whole bunch of home-grown shows that all opened within a certain period and were "good, but not quite there" - same as Made in Dagenham, Mrs Henderson Presents and probably 1-2 more whose names I have already forgotten.

I've heard that FHTE is coming back to the UK in October at the Charing cross theatre I think it was on Tim Rice's podcast where he said they have been working on a rewrite for a while, but I'm surprised its coming back to such a small venue if this is true. I wasn't too keen on the show at the Shaftesbury, but the choreograpy was great, and there's not many shows i say that about. Having listened to it afterwards, I think the score is actually really good on it's own, but i think it was the book that made it drag in the theatre. I'll definitely go back and see it when it does come back.

I think the problem last time is that they just threw it straight into the west end without knowing if the show would work or not. I loved the show but I think they tried to make it too big too soon. I think they are doing the right thing this time by choosing a smaller theatre first to make sure it will work this time.

Tim Rice and Stuart Brayson have been re working the script recently. I just thought I'd share that with people.

I even went twice. The original production was awful.

Can't wait for this, as Tim Rice is responsible for 3 of my all-time top musicals (JCS, Evita and Chess... and I'm pretty keen on Blondel, too.)
I didn't warm to this in the West End. It somehow didn't feel like a Tim Rice show - it didn't have his trademark approach and concerns - but I'm definitely up for giving it a second chance in a more intimate production.

I don't know who's playing who but here is a picture of the new cast for the new production of FHTE

If you click on cast and creatives on that link and scroll down, it tells you who's playing who. I only recognise two names there.

Glad to see some fresh faces given a chance instead of certain people who seem to be ubiquitous at the moment. Booked.

Looking forward to see Desmonda Cathabel, about who I've heard great things and two completely fresh faces in the male leads. Beats having the cast led by JLG and CHF...

They must have made a few cuts with only 4 females in the show now. No female ensemble I guess.
And good to see they have understudies and swings in the cast too

What? Why would it be good to see swings on? It means the ensemble is short. What?? It's the difference between allowing the show to go on if people are sick, or cancelling the performance. I know which i'd prefer. Also, swings and understudies are not usually part of shows at the Charing Cross Theatre, another reason that it's great to see them included. Considering it's running in Winter months is a sensible move on their part. So do you have a problem when swings are on? Certainly sounds like it. Swings have saved many shows over the past year and they should be praised, not put down.

Desmond’s Cathabel is super talented. I was expecting her to be cast in recent cast change of Les Mis. Future Eponine??

Surely having swings can only be a good thing. Otherwise if anyone is off they have to have a cut show?!?

This wasn't really on my radar but Elaine Paige played a song yesterday and I rather liked it. Looking at tickets even the cheapest are a bit pricey for me, do we think there will be offers or cheaper tickets as it's not selling too well.
