I don't know this musical, but I love the song 'Losing My Mind'...which I'm sure Imelda is totally going to ace!
It's great to know that Rufus Norris is taking up a musical revival after the absence of them with Nicholas Hytner, I know technically the Threepenny Opera was one but it can be debatable as it's a new adaptation and a lot of people consider it a play not a musical. I wonder what others will happen at the National?

Hopefully Cam Mac won't interfere with this and soften the ending again. Bring back the darker ending.

Does anybody know when booking would open?
Really hope I can get a ticket to this, sure it won sell out fast as the NT is a big venue. I'd love it to transfer but if Imelda is doing Gypsy in 2018, then I can't see a transfer happening?

I'd love it to transfer but if Imelda is doing Gypsy in 2018, then I can't see a transfer happening? Not sure when booking would open. It's kinda the same slot as Amadeus this year, when did booking open for that? And I wouldn't be too sure about it not selling out fast - I think this is gonna be a scrum for tickets and they'll disappear quickly, as is usually the case with big National hits. Hopefully the NT might do their usual holding some back and releasing at a later date - or maybe it'll even extend if it doesn't clash with Gypsy on Broadway. Or they could re-cast for an extend/transfer. There aren't many like Imelda but there are lots who could do it!

I don't want to jinx it, but do musicals get totally wiped and sold out at the NT? I've seen a number of shows there and didn't particularly have difficulty getting any.

Maybe it wont be a total scrum after all. Though I do also think that it's to do with the quality of the musical. What was the last musical at the National to have such a large and positive buzz around it like Follies seems to be having? Wonder.land certainly not, London Road? Well they did bring it back, and from the smallest space to the largest space, but I missed out so not sure on how it sold. Notable musical productions-wise, I guess we're then going back to Jerry Springer the Opera, 2003? Then further back into the Trevor Nunn tenure! Or have I been a complete doofus and forgotten another landmark musical there between then & now?

I really don't think we can compare Follies with the likes of wonder.land, or even London Road or Jerry Springer:The Opera. This will be VERY popular, drawing an audience that is far beyond the NT Membership Brigade and the Give It A Goers Because It Sounds Different Lot. Sondheim Fans, not to mention Imelda Staunton and Janie Dee fans will be FLOCKING to this... Get ready for a scrum.

One thing's for certain, I'll be hovering over than 'book now' button the second Entry Pass tickets go on sale to get as many as I can!!!

I really want to see this but I'm desperately hoping it doesn't go on sale until the new year money wise.
The hubby is going to go nuts if I try booking something else.
There is also so much locally I want to see too, that I haven't booked yet. Why did I promise him, no more credit cards!!
I want to live a champagne lifestyle on a pint and pasty wage.

I'd cast Celia Imrie in this somewhere, and Susan Jane Tanner, and Josie Lawrence and Janis Kelly, and Jill Pert and Sandra Dugdale...

Trekkie, the answers lie in your post: Pack the hubby off to the local on the night in question... Ask the barman to have a bag of nuts ready for him... Make sure he's served pint after pint... And a pasty is waiting in the microwave ready for him on his return home... Meanwhile- you sip champagne in the NT bar during the interval of Follies, crooning (a la Imelda) "In Hubby's Eyes..." Seriously- a hubby is worth his weight in gold. Treasure him and I'm sure he'll understand.

Loved her in Calendar Girls (was kinda hoping she's appear in the musical version!) but would like to see her do a musical again after Acorn Antiques - let's get her and Julie Walters back on stage together! cant believe Julie isn't a dame yet and Celia hasn't even got an MBE!

I very much doubt Celia Imrie would ever do The Girls, none of the original cast of the film reprised their role in the play never the musical! Julie Walters only got her CBE 8 years ago, I'm sure her damehood is coming within the next few years but usually they wait a while between honours.

This, The Boys in the Band, The BFI Film Festival, Dreamgirls, Gypsy on DVD, an attempt at the Aladdin lottery, a new Robbie and a nee Kate Bush CD , plus Christmas! Bloody Hell! As exciting as it all is, it's like an expensive drug habit! I'm working just to pay rent and pay off my Credit Cards.

Surely this will end up part of NT Live as well?? NT Live seems to miss out the musicals with the exception of The Threepenny Opera last week, which could be because, as I said earlier, there tends to be a debate whether it is a musical or a play with songs (I personally think it's a musical!). Seeing as Follies is a definite musical it could be missed out. Maybe it could broadcast on TV again like Gypsy?

anthony, I have just added you to my Christmas Card List for mentioning the new Kate Bush CD. I was "mentioning" it somewhat discreetly with my new avatar. The excitement is too much... After two years we've finally heard that we're to hear it all again. It'll be like 25th December on... 25th November 2016, Before The Dawn Live... The only contemporary music act to receive a special Editor's Prize at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Presented to Kate by the lovely Ian McKellan. Visit her website to listen to the Prologue, a beautiful ten minute version with added Ding Dongs. (They didn't appear on the studio version of the same piece, as boybooshka will testify.) There. I've said it.

You can't beat it live!
