I'm so excited for this. Imelda will of course be fabulous. I think Janie Dee will make a good Phyllis as long as she learns her bloody lines! Every time I've seen her she's fluffed more than her fair share of lyrics. Can't imagine her doing well with Jessie & Lucy!

anthony, I have just added you to my Christmas Card List for mentioning the new Kate Bush CD. I was "mentioning" it somewhat discreetly with my new avatar. The excitement is too much... After two years we've finally heard that we're to hear it all again. It'll be like 25th December on... 25th November 2016, Before The Dawn Live... The only contemporary music act to receive a special Editor's Prize at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Presented to Kate by the lovely Ian McKellan. Visit her website to listen to the Prologue, a beautiful ten minute version with added Ding Dongs. (They didn't appear on the studio version of the same piece, as boybooshka will testify.) There. I've said it. Indeed i can't deny i enjoy a good Ding Dong. Prologue sounds stunning, can't wait to get the CD(and Vinyl) to relive that amazing experience. Still hoping for a dvd, one day. Being a lifelong Kate Bush fan as taught me to be patient.

I hope Kathryn Evans get's cast in this production. She's not used nearly enough nowadays. She'd be fabulous as Carlotta. It would be a nice full circle for her as she played Sally in the Festival Hall production back in 2002. If only they could coax Julia McKenzie back out of retirement for Hattie. Her Broadway Baby would bring the house down.
Despite seeing this show numerous times, it's never really worked for me. I never fully get the loveland sequence; all their breakdowns etc...

Live, Laugh, Love really needs the band in a traditional pit [the Conductor tries to cue Ben back in etc.], which would mean the Lyttleton. The revolve would be great, which would mean Olivier. CamMac instigated several dubious changes which I hope are reversed for this; with the exception of Ah, But Underneath which was great for Diana Rigg and could be good for Dee too (easier than Lucy and Jessie ;-) ) Original orchestrations, please.

I wonder which book they will use? Surely not the original London one since Sondheim abhors it

I think the NT will go for established theatre actors rather than any pop star or reality TV types. Could there be a role for Kathryn Kelly? She has done a fair bit of NT stuff and a decent singer. Agree with Philip Quast. I really can picture it in the Olivier and using the drum revolve to its full potential.

The sun comes up I think about it The coffee cup I think about it They say September or are they just being kind? Or am I losing my mind? All afternoon doing every little chore The thought of it stays bright Just like Monkey in the middle of the stalls not going left not going right I dim the lights and think about it Spend sleepless nights and think about it I heard the Olivier or are they just being kind? Or am I losing my mind?
My current obsession - even the changed lyrics seem to inspire! Would love to see Julia McKenzie as Hattie and Shirley Bassey as Carlotta.

Last year I bumped into Julia McKenzie while she was going to Drury Lane to rehearse for the Hey Old Friends! concert and when I saw her I lost my words and muttered something idiotic like "you are my favourite Sally in Follies". And she looked at me and said "well, I bet you say that to all the girls". Love her so much, I wish she might consider playing Hattie in this revival.

One of life's greatest tragedies is that Julia McKenzie never played Rose in Gypsy.

Can we expect a lot of revolve action with this one if it's at the Olivier?
