I disagree and much prefer Sunderland to Newcastle as a venue in every way. It's a beautiful theatre and much more opulant, I love the gold/red scheme (even Gary Barlow said it was the nicest theatre he went to on his recent tour 😉). As shady23 has said, it has more seats and a much bigger stage. I saw the first Wicked tour there and thought it fit really well.

I totally agree with justfran and think big shows are ideally suited for Sunderland Empire. It’s my favourite venue in the North East

They are both beautiful, but I personally prefer NCL because it’s more convenient for me to access.

I imagine if a third tour were to happen as early as 2020 it would return to venues that the original tour went to, but the current tour has not? These being Plymouth, Milton Keynes, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Salford. I'm not really seeing how they could justify touring Wicked again so soon without it returning to some of the larger scale venues.
I would love to see it happen, but I can't imagine it being very profitable with such little choice of venues that would yield a lot of profit. I can't see the tour leaving the UK either after all the issues with the international tour!

They would definitely re-do Birmingham. They sold pretty much every ticket for the run there. I’d imagine Bristol and Edinburgh too. Edinburgh is one of the largest theatres in Europe and they managed to sell nearly every ticket, with only single seats and standing room at most performances.

I'm not sure that's true- think Edinburgh did well but didn't sell out on the second tour. Also, Daniel- you sound very in the know, intrigued by your confidence in the news? I can't imagine they're planning another tour in the UK for a while if ever, but guess it's up to the producers to decide (probably off the back of this tour's success) so all to play for..... although I agree not in 2020

Assuming the movie is released in Dec 2019 as currently planned it would seem logical for 2020 to be the next tour to capitalise on the (assumed) success of it?
Appreciate people saying it’s doubtful but does seem a missed marketing opportunity.... on topic for the movie but off for the tour debate (sorry mods) I can see whoever the movie cast are, moving onto Broadway after its release “you’ve seen them on the big screen, now see them live” again it’s great marketing!

Is the movie even still a thing? We've heard NOTHING. And they're saying itll be out in less than 18 months. I reckon it's been shelved if I'm honest, which doesnt actually bother me.

Fair challenge... last update was a few months ago from Stephen Schwartz saying he was writing new material to go with it! I’m not bothered about it as I don’t want them to ruin it, but I know that could change depending on casting* *Lea Michelle or I’m not going. Ms Michelle can then come to the UK to tour it - I can see her waltzing around Bradford on her Monday day off!

Bit of chaos today, the Dublin Bord Gais had a power outage and as a result the matinee didn't start until just before 4pm (it's scheduled to start at 2.30pm). The evening show has now been pushed back to an 8.15pm start time (from 7.30pm) so they have time to reset between shows and so they aren't violating a million Equity regulations.

Also, I'm surprised the movie has been pushed back as they've been banging on about it since at least 2015. The casting alone seems to have been going on for most of that time, although I guess we don't really know what happens behind the scenes. I wouldn't mind if it was quietly dropped as it's only going to be awful, although it would give the West End production a bit of a boost.

Wicked has made boatloads of money for Universal so they can afford to be patient and not rush, after all they waited almost a decade for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again so I expect Wicked will be pushed another year or two.

Really odd seeing Amy’s Instagram story at 10:20 where Act 2 has only just started!

Quick review from the show on Tuesday night and the Wednesday matinee. Worth mentioning that this was the "power outage" matinee, the show wasn't able to start until just after 4pm, an hour and a half after the scheduled start time!
Amy Ross (Elphaba): I am just constantly amazed by Amy. Her portrayal of Elphaba is entirely different to anything I have seen before. She delivers such a layered and emotional performance. Both shows were full of amazing energy and unique moments to Amy's Elphaba. Vocally, Amy really went for it on Tuesday night. Bringing all her iconic riffs and growls. I was in total awe of her performance.
Helen Woolf (Glinda): As per usual, Helen delivered a fantastic performance as Glinda. She has such unique little choices that make her stand out among the other UK Glindas. She is able to nail the humour consistently throughout the show, while also delivering a very conflicted and vulnerable Glinda throughout Act 2. Vocally, as always, Helen was sublime, I could not possibly fault her voice!
Benjamin Yates (u/s Fiyero): Benjamin was a very likable Fiyero. Ben had very good comedic timing and he really played up the comedy shtick throughout the show. Vocally, Ben has a gorgeous voice, with nice riffs throughout. He can sometimes be a little quiet, but the clarity of his singing does make up for it. Ben had great chemistry with Amy throughout the show. Their connection felt very sincere and natural!
Kim Ismay (Madame Morrible): As always, Kim delivers a very comedic side of Morrible, while still keeping that sinister nature intact. I love her disdain for Glinda throughout the show, it's very amusing seeing Kim and Helen interact!
Emily Shaw (Nessarose): Emily keeps improving each time I see her. She has certainly come out of her shell a lot more. Her acting in the role is very good and she delivers a very emotive performance!
Iddon Jones (Boq): Not my cup of tea, but he does fine in the role.
Steven Pinder (The Wizard/Dr Dillamond): Steven is honestly a national treasure, we need to keep him with Wicked for the rest of his life!
I must give praise to the ensemble, who on this tour just do go above and beyond. The ensemble bring so much energy and life and really make the stage come alive at each performance!

Sunderland are marketing as "this will be your last ever chance to see the show in the north east" which seems very final!

Sunderland are marketing as "this will be your last ever chance to see the show in the north east" which seems very final! Perhaps they're still planning to do a biennial Wicked tour for the next decade but they're going to drop a nuclear bomb on Newcastle and Sunderland?

This will never be the last ever tour. Maybe the last run of this tour maybe, and the next one will be scaled down?

This will never be the last ever tour. Maybe the last run of this tour maybe, and the next one will be scaled down? Oh I agree, and it would also be stupid of the producers to rule out a future tour. I wonder if it's just marketing speak, a bit like a farewell tour that doesn't end up being so.

I saw Meat Loaf's farewell tour back in 2013 and he's done 3 more tours since so farewell can mean anything and nothing. Maybe they're planning a bit of "touring the north" hiatus or another international tour with just a couple of UK venues, but I can't see them not taking the opportunity to milk this cash cow some more, especially as the movie is only just over a year away.

It does seem very strange to market it that way, but maybe they are just desperate to sell more tickets.
There are still lots left and with them starting at a ridiculous £73.50 I am not surprised! West End prices.
