Oh she's a sweet girl, and (for what I know of her) a novice dancer. She'll be great I think. (When BBC Breakfast said they were announcing I did fear the Dan Walker rumours were about to be true...)

Oh goodie, my favourite time of year, when people on the internet start busting out their most supercilious "who? Never heard of him/her"s, because it's far more important to them that everyone else knows they don't consider the freshly-announced person a "proper" celebrity than it is for them to quietly google a name and get an immediate answer to their question. I hope some of them really put their foot in it and feel awful when they finally get a little backstory as to what put the various celebs in the public eye.

I mean as a self confessed Strictly FIEND I have 99.9% of the time not known the Sports Stars by name because, well, have we met me? But I don't cry 'WELL I HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM DO THE BALLS THING HE'S NOT A REAL CELEB' No I accept he/she/they are famous for a thing I know nothing about and then google/stalk their twitter as appropriate. Also re: today's the woman has several bestselling books, done her own TV shows so yes, a wee google would quickly sort ya right out keyboard monkeys of twitter.

When they said an announcement on BBC Breakfast I wondered if it might be Dan or Louise - both would be good contestants IMO. Dan has good height and Lou does triathlons so must be fit and as someone nearing 50 would be a bridge between the younger and older women.
Plus Steph McGovern has been mentioned and I wondered if it might be her.
Katie is a good signing and has an incredible back story so will get lots of support. Having a young child (7 months) may be a distraction for her but if she is up for it then fair play to her. She could literally be paired with any male pro probably excluding AJ who is a bit young so she seems a great fit for the series.

Superciliousness is very much part of the experience for me so I’ll be continuing with my indignant “WHO???” accompanied by a 🙄 thank you very much!
Not needed for Katie however, as I have seen her before 👍

I'm a theatre fan, my idea of who counts as actually famous or not is WILDLY skewed, but if I've got the entirety of the internet at my fingertips, it's MUCH quicker and easier to google a name than to be weirdly sneery about the fact I've never heard of them (and by extension imply that their fame is therefore undeserved and/or that I'm a superior person because I've never heard of them).

When the term "Celebrity" is used in a title and we go who?
Always reminds me of the Ab Fab joke when Patsy reads a headline "Film star Meg Ryan" and she goes "I'll decide thank you".

I don't know if this is aimed at my comment above or not... Given I also have to ask who some theatre people are, I'm not one to judge on famous or not. That said Celeb Masterchef this time skews very much to the 'famous for being on reality shows for being famous' and 'sister of someone famous' end of the spectrum, so I'm allowing myself a raised eyebrow at this offering. (In fairness they do it about 2-3 times a year, they must be running out of options by now to get yelled at in kitchens). ] And as my above, above comment said, I never know the sports (also soap) people in Strictly. Nor pop stars who fall outside the 'famous in the 90s' narrow window. So I'm certainly doing a fair share of googling. ETA none of which is me thinking I'm in anyway superior. Just that I'm dumb as sh*t. I mean on the flip side I had to ask who Kelli O'Hara was/what she was famous for....

Give it a few years Monkey you'll be getting offers for reality TV. The Jungle one is probably most appropriate, though possibly cheating.

I don't care how famous they are or not so long as they're hot. And they wear something tight (preferably with or without shirt and/or sleeves).
And they're the mens.

Two more of the class of 2018 revealed on The One Show tonight - Faye Tozer and Danny John-Jules. So that's 3 out of 3 for me, so far!

Faye was heavily rumoured but I hadn't heard Danny John-Jules' name mentioned.
Faye has done some dancing before so should be pretty good and will have a decent fanbase. Danny could do well for an older guy and is an extrovert and is likely a fairly decent dancer. He'll likely be good at the uptempo numbers, ballroom could be more of a challenge for him.
Often the defending champion pro gets an older person the next year so Katya might get Danny.Faye could likely be paired with any male pro - AJ may be a bit young as I said same thing about Katie Piper who is 7 years younger than Faye. Kevin might be a good fit for Faye IMO.

Not sure what sort of dance he can or was trained in but he is a very good mover.

Danny was part of the Real Full Monty on ITV and did some nifty moves on there and as Cat on Red Dwarf. I didn't know he was in the original cast of Starlight many years ago though. He is nearly 58 years old now so his dance training was a long time ago but I think he will go well as he will be used to taking direction and will know how to stay on the beat and in time.

I’m calling “fiddle” right now. Faye Tozer has been doing that 5678 routine for 20 years. How can she be a novice dancer?
Who next? Rudolph Nureyev?

Oh my 90s pop prayers (see above) have been answered. Love a bit of Steps. Also we know she can count to 8 which is a good start.

The experienced dancers rarely (if ever) win in the end though. Oh my 90s pop prayers (see above) have been answered. Love a bit of Steps. Also we know she can count to 8 which is a good start. She might get a bit stumped if they start the count in from 1 though.

Oh Joe Sugg as well now.
For those not down with the kids or google, he's a youtuber/has a Netflix film so all the kids watching with their families will likely be wanting to vote for him.

Last year, he demonstrated thatching techniques to Prince Charles... See I'm learning fun facts already! I have a passing knowledge of him via a passing knowledge of Zoella et al I can't be arsed re-hasing an argument about youtubers, but my 2p would be that they are more 'self made' than other 'reality' stars so that should count for something. (also that youtube is a really creative medium, and frankly where all the kids are at so someone in BBC casting has their head screwed on right)

I really don't understand why people who make YouTube videos are considered "celebrities" - they're often not demonstrating any particular talent whatsoever apart from using a make-up brush...
Maybe I'm old and cynical, but I don't think they deserve the title "celebrity" at all, never mind that half of them would turn up for the opening of an envelope if it got them some freebies.
Not impressed by this casting at all.

As these celebs use Strictly as a platform for their talents, I am surprised that last years winner Joe McFadden has not got a lead in a musical out of it (I remember seeing him in She Loves Me at Chichester - so well qualified). Miss Burke (whatever anyone may think of her) has got a part in a high profile production of Chess and a lead in Chicago in the WE and later to lead a tour of the BodyGuard again, all within 12 months!

Joe Sugg has over 8 million subscribers on his main channel - his videos attract audience into the millions.
I don't think he has much in the way of discernible talent - but people still like to watch him on screen.
The size of his audience does give him a profile and a platform. When people have chosen to click on your videos millions and millions of times, they have made an active choice to watch you - that is a lot more than many celebrities can claim.
