It will save Cameron about 20,000 a week.
Les Mis did it and years later most of us have moved on.
Technology changes! I’m against it really but will it sound the same?

My thoughts exactly. Most of the people I know who love it haven’t even seen it!! Still obviously the music holds up for itself.

I totally agree. A narrator can be any race, gender or size.
But this is show business and casting - for this reason it matters. Even more so in america than the UK. Otherwise in spotlight or casting briefs you wouldn’t have playing age, height, eye colour and so on.
It has nothing, zero to do with being personal about the performer.
Anyway moving on superb news that Ms Burke is the new narrator. Casting wise (again) she has the vocal skills needed for the role. Sheridan although excellent in some of her work was mis-cast as the narrator because of this.

I thought this was visually amazing, gorgeous dancing and singing, and the costumes and sets were stunning, but it moved me not a jot. It was worth it for Danny Burstein, god bless him, but I could have taken or left the rest of it. Other than Danny (and Sahr Ngaujah and Tam Mutu, who were fab) it felt very paint by numbers. I had such high hopes sitting down, with the beautiful cast unsmiling, striding about and casting a menacing presence. But that dissipated immediately in favour of an aerobicised and clinical approach, which was decidedly lacking in sex appeal, for me. The only moments I began to feel something were the songs from the film - all of the rest just felt like very high grade karaoke. For me, there was much more passion in Virtue and Moir’s Moulin Rouge ice dancing programme from the most recent Winter Olympics. I was gobsmacked to hear people sobbing near the end and wanted to tell them to get to their nearest opera house and see La Boheme and/or Carmen, which do this much, much better. THIS!!!! I totally agree. Looked amazing - the story/book/ meh

She was a horrible person. Just ask anyone who worked on any flights she was on. Absolutely vile. I met Cilla many times when working at ITV. I remember one conversation Me - “do you go to Liverpool much darling?” Cilla - “not if I can help it” Wouldn’t surprise me if she isn’t even buried there and it’s a false stone!

Is this the way forward for auditions? It would really save time and money if so!

I agree. It's refreshing casting - seems far more suited to the role vocally and physically than Sheridan. More suited physically? Sorry but what’s that supposed to mean? It’s meant to mean that Sheridan and I say this in a casting way and not personal (people get this very mixed up in the UK) was larger than any other narrator. That’s not saying this is good or bad - but different than any other narrator. Sheridan’s weight has been discussed in great detail by many forums, websites, magazines and newspapers. It seems to matter to some people and not to others.

Well well well.
THAT is one of the best renditions of AIWNSG I’ve watched in my life! Epic. This version in particular is better than Patti, Betty, Petula and Glen. Though Elaine if I remember rightly from 30 years ago slightly generally over acted the role.
Thank you for sharing this. The Adelphi Sunset was one of the top ten shows and theatrical experiences of my life.

A lot of celebrities nowadays owe their fame to their social media following and it's almost become a requirement to have a social media presence in some industries including this one sometimes from what I've seen, but why anyone with a somewhat large following posts anything but promotion and the tamest of takes on the mildest topics is beyond me. You're just looking for trouble if you touch anything remotely controversial and I just don't see how it's worth the effort to make your opinions known on such things. THIS

Also don't see what the fuss is all about, he's not even that hot. He’s not hot at all! The marketing for this show is soooooo bizarre. Grafitti new logo (blue to gray), slow release of cheesy 80’s songs, another 17th century French let them east cake video in full costume and high wig, a dreadfully lip synched theatre music video with Carrie staring into the distance and now Oliver meets Beauty and the Best sexist hot buns short clips. JUST. WEIRD. (Take a look at Six marketing and style ALW team) cheers

I was just mooching about the Internet looking for goss about the show and blow me down if ALW hasn’t been up to his old tricks again. Turns out the chorus of Bad Cinderella and R&H’s In My Own Little Corner are veeeeeeeery similar. Naughty Andrew! It took you that long to realise? It's more of an intentional nod i'd say. WATCH THIS (Ok some are bad comparisons but others - EEK!

Actors should be banned from using social media. If I was an agent one term I would state is that none of my clients could use the thing - nothing but trouble! We had that years ago. Much easier

Cam Mac doesn’t have a new musical opening though does he? He isn’t expecting things to happen til October at normal capacity. Happy to flog a socially distanced horse down at the Sondheim with a much cheaper cast but nothing with an element of risk. A realistic and astute businessman rather than wishful thinking. I wonder what Cam Mac’s plans are? Martin Guerre the return I hear?

Yes I know am old and yes I know am like a broken record but I do feel for the current generation of younger theatregoers when the above effect is the best that seems to be on offer. In the 80s and 90s they really were pushing the boundaries of technical possibility in theatre, relative to the norms at the time. There was a time when each big new musical did something with a bigger wow factor and more breathtaking than the last. You truly were transported into a different world. These days a few projections and a dress change is as good as it gets! (Edit - I am however euphoric that such things are being discussed again after the endless covid drought!) Agreed! Imagine if Frozen came out in 1990! Just imagine! Epic...

I was told my a cast member of Sunset Boulevard that Andrew Lloyd Webber famously screamed and fired the entire cast after a rehearsal one evening only to grovel and have them all come in embarrassed the next day.

I saw it last year. It’s all very woke and modern and features many themes of rape, adoption, race, teenage anxiety, climate change, marital issues, drug abuse, mental health and sexuality 😜 - the creators were obviously high when they said “let’s write a show and include EVERY possible social and personal issue in the world” (apart from covid!)
THAT said, the talent in the Broadway cast was exceptional, one of the songs features the entire cast performing everything backwards and some of the songs (despite being a tad “American” as a show in style and rocky for my liking) were very special.

He's a superstar. Talent, looks and personality. Stars often barely have two of those qualities! 😂 Agreed. Sensational talent / I was amazed when I watched him in Newsies on Broadway

I don't think this show will do well in London. I saw it at ART at 325 seats and it was sensational and impactful. On Broadway with 1100 seats it was slightly rewritten and I felt lost. I went back a second time on Broadway and felt the same. The music is great and there's a hell of a punch with Mary Jane with a mindblowing drugstore song and the sofa choreography. I hope it finds a good home in London that will highlight its good qualities. I actually laughed out loud when I saw it on Broadway last year. The performances and songs were great but the story and characters featuring 413 different woke themes just ridiculous.

It is the most disappointing thing song to stage ever.
Fake screaming ooohs and ahhhhs for a cloak removal and ice lights effect. I actually think the tacky theme park production at the Hyperion looked better than a blank stage and glitter curtains. The small staircase helps 4 per cent more but I still think it’s just dreadful and think of the endless possibilities they could have done. Why not use the monster spikes growing from the floor? I don’t get it!!!
Yes I’m angry

So odd that this transfers and Carrie, Eugenius, Be More Chill, Dogfight, Big Fish, Falsettos and Titanic don’t.
I suppose it’s all to do with the producers on board. I found it rather average and weird. Still good luck to them!
