Just watched the West End Live performance on YouTube.
I thought Courtney did really well with History of Wrong Guys and would make a great Lauren.
I though Matt Willis absolutely murdered Step One, and I dread to think what Soul of a Man is going to be like in the concert.

Trying my best to enjoy this but struggling a little, to have this staged again as a concert and not a complete revival still baffles me as it seems the music of the show doesn’t stand well alone (at least these songs!) Not a massive fan of either of the two in this performance, thankfully didn’t book for this .. What happened with the rights, too? curious to know if once amateur productions get the green light for community shows then can the professional production still start again ‘ ++ the increase in popularity of Drag Queens in media could be an easy selling point for the show, and since the first and last tour was 4 years ago now I’d love to see it again..

Didn't enjoy the West End Live performances at all so I've decided not to book tickets for the concert.
Would love to see the show fully stage again in the West End though.

Matt Willis out, Joel Harper-Jackson in... "Calendar conflict". Utter rubbish... No way they've only realised there is a clash a week before the concert.

Why can't this show ever get accents right The Northampton accent is very tricky. My sister speaks it fluently but I don't. Even though we both grew up there!

Northampton doesn't have an accent, does it? I volunteer there and I've never noticed one.
Joel will be a million times better than Matt, he was excellent on the last tour.

This proved what I suspected tonight: Kinky Boots does not make a good concert production. It relies too heavily on costumes (and boots) and physical performance. Many parts of it felt very flat - especially some of the dialogue scenes, and the big production numbers that would usually have a lot of choreography going on. I do miss this show from the West End - you could never not be in a good mood when you left the Adelphi afterwards - and was happy to hear the songs on a stage again, but if you harboured no prior affection for it, I think you'd be sorely disappointed. Also - I know it's only a concert, but the constant tripping over words was getting a little frustrating... Shout out to Joel's 'Charlie learns to dance in heels' routine at the end, though. A+ for that hilarity.

Thats the main reason I didn't book for this as I couldn't see it working as a concert. Its a very visual show and relies on the costumes and the dance numbers.

I figured this just wouldn't work in concert form. It relies too much on big production numbers

I saw this last night and actually thought it worked really well in the concert setting - there was some choreography for the big Lola numbers and Joel and Cedric were great (as were all the supporting cast).
Would be nice to see this show back in London in some form, I wonder if it will happen?!

Would be nice to see this show back in London in some form, I wonder if it will happen?! Agreed - and the crowd seemed to absolutely love it. The applause after Hold Me In Your Heart was ROARING. I would love it to find a smaller house, as it's done in Stage 42 off-Broadway.

There's a new professional co -production of Kinky Boots coming up soon. Opens at New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich on Thursday 1st September until Saturday 24th, then Queen's Theatre Hornchurch from Wednesday 28 September until Saturday 22 October. Very reasonable ticket prices and if it's anything like Priscilla... which was a co-production a few years ago well worth a visit. I've booked.
Queen's Theatre is about a 15 minute walk from either Hornchurch on the District Line or Emerson Park on London Overground. Car park adjacent to theatre which I think is free in the evening.
