John Wilson did a live one night recording of Andre Previn & Johnny Mercer’s ‘The Good Companions’ in 2009, for BBC Radio 3. Does anyone know if this is available anywhere? I’ve tried ‘googling’ with no success. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

No recording alas. But I do have the 24 page programme with a jolly seaside illustration by Steve Fricker on the front cover. I attended the first of two perfromances at the Watford Colosseum. Subsequently I asked a friend to ask the late Ronald Harwood why the show wasn't a success. 'We weren't good enough' came the blunt reply.

Thanks for the reply. Interesting. Given this was broadcast on BBC radio 3, is there any way to get hold of it, officially or unofficially? Any leads greatly appreciated.

I did a few days crewing on the Manchester pre london run and the cast were amazing, Judi d, John Mills, Christopher Gable, marti webb - i'll always remember Judi D in a little push along car, and lines such as 'deeply bereft of a bed ridden father'. It changed every night and i never saw how it ended uo in London, but i rather loved it. some good numbers but maybe all a bit twee.

I worked with 2 of the original cast many years ago and, in the brief chat we had about it, they spoke about it with great affection. Bearman up thread - not asking for bootlegs but would just love to know if there is any way to access the BBC Radio 3 version for research purposes. So, if anyone can help with any leads, please PM me.
