The master of bursting any attempt at celebrity pomposity, like when he had Dame Edna slap name badges on the celebrity guests so she’d know who they are . |

Humphries is a genius, although Alison Hammond's completely OTT reaction nearly killed the gag stone dead.

It's genuinely astonishing to me how many people seem to be missing the, to my mind very obvious, gag. Humphries is a master craftsman of comedy. The deadpan commitment sells it and so reduces the other two to hysterics. Have the public lost the ability to see irony even when it's this obvious?

Alas, Dame Edna has been off telly for quite some time, so lots of people haven’t seen the genius at work before.
I just love that Alison immediately got the joke. Her laughter is glorious.
