I couldn't find an existing thread on this but I was wondering if people had any thoughts on what the best/most widely accepted theatre vouchers are or if indeed they are worth buying for someone as a gift?
I was thinking of buying some for a theatre-going relative but I wasn't sure if they are good value for money or it turns out that most places don't actually take them!

Theatre Tokens are very widely accepted and a very safe option (and there's a list on their website of where they're valid if that helps: www.theatretokens.com/where-to-use). It might be worth knowing the habits of your intended recipient though, 'cos if they spend most of their time visiting a local theatre that has their own system, then theatre tokens are lovely but would maybe have to be used elsewhere. Though that said, I used to live where the local theatre had its own system, and they were happy to take theatre tokens in payment, they just gave their own voucher back in change if there was any price difference.  Otherwise, I'm sure Ticketbastard and Seetickets also have their own vouchers which will also be widely accepted, but theatre tokens are way better because then you don't have to deal with Ticketbastard or Seetickets. |

Also bear in mind that theatre tokens can only be used in person or by phone, not online.

Theatre tokens are also accepted by the TKTS booth in Leicester Square, so you're not tied into paying full price with them, you can get discounted tickets.

Theatre tokens are my idea of a perfect gift - if everyone who spends £5 on a box of chocs gave a £5 theatre token it would be so much better. If your friend is also an ATG member then combined with no fees and an offer it could be a gift that lasts a while and gives so much pleasure. Also they have no expiry date so can be used whenever required.

Bear in mind if you're giving to a "normal person" that many of the biggest and most popular regional theatres, which locals are most likely to choose to go to, such as Birmingham Hippodrome and Wales Millennium Centre, only sell their own vouchers and don't accept the usual general theatre vouchers.

All the regional theatres in Edinburgh accept theatre tokens. I'm sure they are pretty commonly accepted.
