Hi ya!
Thrilled to pieces to be coming back to London for the first time since May 2019.
We have tix to Constellations and then reservations at the Ivy.
It's not a long walk, but I'm wondering are there taxis right by the theatre I can catch? Pedicabs? Yes, people were horrified we took one of those machines, another time. But I didn't mind.
Also -- are people wearing masks in theatres? I asked about vax proof, but was told it wasn't necessary.
Thanks much.

I'd personally walk as it's only 7 minutes to get to the Ivy from the Vaudeville, you're only saving 3 minutes if you get a cab.

Thank you. Kept trying to press the "thank you" heart, but it didn't seem to take.

I saw Constellation the other day, mainly a young crowd and mask wearing was very poor.

I hadn't been to see Constellations, but did happen to be outside the Vaudeville last week when the audience started to pour out. There was a long line of black cabs waiting on the Strand, with their orange lights on, so not pre-booked.
As already posted, it is just as quick to walk, but no harm in having a contingency plan. Should also be easy enough to find an 'emergency' taxi outside the Savoy or Charing Cross station...though by then you could have walked as far as Garrick Street!

Thanks, all. I know it's not far. But it'll be dark and I wonder if I'll find my way! I thought of doing the Bedford St route. (It's not the newer Ivy, I mean. It's the one on West Street.)

Good luck walking from the Vaudeville to the Ivy in seven minutes, but like other people have said, there should be plenty of taxis going either way in the Strand.
I saw Constellations when it was starring Capaldi and Wanamaker and the ushers made a big thing of holding up signs to tell us to wear masks (and checking people too) but maybe they’re more relaxed these days.

Google Maps says 8 minutes, so 7 minutes is probably right. Taxis will take longer due to all the traffic lights and are a complete waste of money for a distance that short. And most restaurants will hold a reservation for 10-15 minutes anyway, so I'd be astonished if the Ivy didn't. Doesn't seem to be any need to stress!

You can't really go wrong if you go up Bedford St/Garrick St (same road basically) - when you get to the complex junction at the top just follow Upper St Martin's Lane on up and when it starts to narrow the Ivy is pretty much there near the start of West Street on your left. Even in the dark this is a pretty straightforward route - the Long Acre pub is diagonally opposite on the corner where you come out on Carrick Street and Upper St Martin's is the one that runs up the right hand side of the pub.

Thanks, all. lichtie, I see the extinction rebellion has plopped the center of its protest right at that junction: Garrick St/St Martin's Lane. It's 8 days till I may be going up that way (not if there's a giant pink table with protestors attached to it in the way). What do you all think? Look for a way roundabout route? (Getting from Vaudeville Theatre to the Ivy at 4 West Street.)

Poster J -- funny thing. The Ivy says you must call them if you're not there within 5 minutes of your time. Five! Hence my worry.
Also, as you see, from my post and from the news, there is now a giant pink table at the Garrick/St Martin's Lane junction.
I doubt the Ivy will give away my table in 5 minutes, but it's just another layer on the whole scene.
And my tmj is now killing me. I hope the chemists still sell Solpadeine. Anyone know?

I don't mind wearing a mask if I have to. Just wondering what to expect.

Isn't that Ivy the one all the slebs go to? They're always late.
Go up Bedford Street as before, then left down New Row, down the side of the Noel Coward and Wyndham's, right along Charing Cross Road, and another right down either Litchfield or West Street. Bob's your uncle!

Bob's your uncle! I'm sure they hold a table every night for a possible sleb coming by! The Ivy has treated me very well over the years, even tho' I'm not famous. I did hold up the mantle piece in The Play that Goes Wrong!! My West end debut ;-) Thanks for the alt directions!

The slebs don't mix with us mere mortals anymore at The Ivy. They go upstairs to The Ivy Club So that no one can stare at them. However every time I've been there to eat I've had a great time and it's one of my favourite London restaurants. When I can't afford the real thing the Ivy Market Grill is a great substitute.

Been there, too, the Ivy Market Grill. It's funny, when no other restaurants had room for us, the IMG came through just like that.
